@home began as a film following the work of e-activist Mark Horvath. Mark has experienced the highs and lows of the American dream, from a successful career in television to barely surviving, homeless and addicted, on Hollywood Boulevard. But he found his voice again when he hit the streets, armed with a digital camera and a smartphone, to talk to homeless people about their own experiences. Today, he's the online voice of his cause, and he's bringing their stories to millions on Twitter, Facebook, and RU-vid. The @home documentary follows him on a road trip across the country, from Los Angeles to Arkansas to Pittsburgh, as he makes homelessness in America visible.
Mark’s story, and the stories of the many faces of homelessness we meet in @home, have the power to engage communities in talking about homelessness - its causes and solutions - and to create a renewed sense of empowerment to tackle this crisis.

About Invisible People:
Since its launch in November 2008, Invisible People has leveraged the power of video and the massive reach of social media to share the compelling, gritty, and unfiltered stories of homeless people from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C. The vlog (video blog) gets up close and personal with veterans, mothers, children, layoff victims and others who have been forced onto the streets by a variety of circumstances. Each week, they’re on InvisiblePeople.tv, and high traffic sites such as RU-vid, Twitter and Facebook, proving to a global audience that while they may often be ignored, they are far from invisible.
Invisible People goes beyond the rhetoric, statistics, political debates, and limitations of social services to examine poverty in America via a medium that audiences of all ages can understand, and can’t ignore. The vlog puts into context one of our nation’s most troubling and prevalent issues through personal stories captured by the lens of Mark Horvath - its founder - and brings into focus the pain, hardship and hopelessness that millions face each day. One story at a time, videos posted on InvisiblePeople.tv shatter the stereotypes of America’s homeless, force shifts in perception and deliver a call to action that is being answered by national brands, nonprofit organizations and everyday citizens now committed to opening their eyes and their hearts to those too often forgotten.
Invisible People is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to changing the way we think about people experiencing homelessness. outreach

Watching this as a homeless disabled woman, I feel thankful that someone does care...’cause it doesn’t feel that way most of the time. Never thought I would be homeless, especially since I have health problems, good credit, an income & NO drug/alcohol problems. It really can happen to you. Writing this comment on a 44° night, listening to I-75 traffic pass me by. Invisible.

In the days before social welfare, during the great depression (1930's), the government sent people out to document the plight of those who were homeless, migrants, living in cars, on the roads. Those documents helped bring about widespread awareness of the conditions endured by so many people during that time. Telling stories can have a positive effect. It can help. Keep up the good work.

I would like to thank you for this amazing documentary and all the work that you do more generally. I hate to admit that I have held a lot of negative stereotypes about the homeless (without realising) and this has really opened my eyes. The people that you speak to are painfully human, they have feelings, they have hopes and dreams and there was a time in their life (often not long ago) when their situation would have seemed as unlikely to them as it does to me right now. If society really made an effort to help these people then the vast majority of them would be able to get right back on track. I think that we are all used to recognising homeless people that have given up, and we don't realise that so many of the well groomed, articulate people around us are in such a horrible situation. I'm not sure how much difference I can make, but I am a teacher in the UK and I will be making sure that every pupil at my school watches this when we return from the Covid 19 epidemic. Hopefully that will do something, even if it only improves life in my little corner of the world.

♥️🙏🏼 well said! While on a walk today I passed by many homeless people and because my 4yo was with me I tryed to educate her about their situations and asked her what she thought it was a good way of helping them. She said the obvious: find them a house but she also mentioned that they should live with a family who would care for them. Her way of saying her vision stuck with me cause most of that population, of course, needs a house, but more than that need a home and people that would care about them too. So I got home and RU-vid suggested Marks videos on my home page. I’m hooked up! Can’t stop watching them...🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

@vebtinkerbellable
@vebtinkerbellable 3 года назад
I'd love to explain why I'm stuck in homelessness, .... I have no addiction problems, I had an aneurysm rupture 4 years ago while I was recovering, I then had a stroke which left me parilized on my left side, and then my husband decided I was too much to care for and divorced me, I lost the marital house we owned in the d-iv-o-r-c-e, then after the divorce he threatened my life, which I had to pay attorneys to fight for me. After paying for the divorce,which in turn made me unable to pay them on just my disability alone and cover living expenses too, so I in turn was evicted. Spent time in a shelter afterwards which was hell. So I took my chances between the streets and hotels with a very limited income. From social security, then covid happened, I have been disabled, and homeless for the past year. So, places weren't renting due to stay at home orders. So No don't blame it on drugs or addictions because that's not the case with everyone and it's BS that people think that about everyone!

You have a gift. That level of empathy to feel so deeply for another soul that truly is just as alive and meaningful, that matters very much. That’s very valuable. Many people cannot do that. If we all had that type of empathy and loved ourselves but could easily feel for and care for one another, imagine how amazing society could be. Imagine the amazing civilization, progress, ideas, technology, beauty, and future we could create with that type of cohesion.

You know.. I used to walk by homeless people, and I literally would do everything in my power to not look them in the face. It's sad. It's uncomfortable to acknowledge that you're going to pass someone by that is destitute, while you're on your way to likely go spend money on some bullshit, so my defense mechanism was to essentially ignore they were even there. Rewind about 5 years ago, I was living in my car, shooting up heroin, and nearly drinking myself to death. It wasn't until I had experienced it myself, and experienced how lonely it is to not have somewhere to be. Somewhere to belong. You best believe if I see someone that is in a bad situation, I don't ignore them any more. I wave at them, smile at them just like I would anyone else on the street now. These are fucking human beings, just like me and you. They love, they feel, they cry, they have every single thing that makes them the absolute same as you without error. Love your fellow people. No matter what they look like, or where they sleep. Help out if you can. You don't even have to supply money if you don't have it. I'm saying this, but I haven't tried to help at all, and I won't even pretend that I have, but I want to start doing more for my community. I want to start helping where I can. I'm going to see how I can get involved. If the majority of people do, we can solve this! I work full time now, and I have been clean for years. Things are going great for me now. It's honestly amazing. If you're homeless, and reading this... Don't give up. You're worth it.

I only recently came up on this channel. Mark is an absolutely amazing human being along with all the others trying to help homeless. Using his past to open his own mind up is one thing but he's out there trying his hardest and helping people be heard. You can tell he feels for them from his very core. The world is a scary place, I wish nothing but the best for all of these people 🙁

Mark your work is constantly bearing fruits, just wana let you know that even Moses didnt see the promised land, you can be at peace because your work has touched many many people since 1999. I got goosebumps when you said when you were in ministry that you were tired of hearing about Jesus, and wanted to follow some of his examples. Like you mentioned, the cause of homelessness is complex, but there are many solutions. I have one, and i honestly believe, that if we can get Pastors to proactively practice the teachings of the Bible, WITH their congregation. Then their members too will understand a lot more about the Bible and to make the best out of it. I feel like i can do it, i understand the importance of Grace, Fatith and Works and how it compliments in with each other. Taking on the Church/Homelessness is like, moving a mountain with a spoon. I'll shove a bucket worth of sand away, but at least i can be sure that the seeds ive planted along the way will carry on with the work, heck they may even bulldoze it away. (Point being, youve started something beautiful, more will find better solutions, or improve your current ones) God bless man Adam ,23 South Africa Best Regards

22:17 ...we tend to attribute people's poverty to something about their character, rather than an economic problem. This is an important point. Life can be tough and we don't always have the resources or skills to deal with problems. Being homeless does not mean you are a 'bad' person, it means you have faced a challenge which, for various reasons, led to poverty.
@karenjackson5735

I keep saying this to people. We're all just human beings. Being poor should not be a crime.

This is very true. The history of poverty is really an urban phenomenon. Since the cities developed, not everyone is aligned with the labor market.

That little girl had me cracking up! She's so cute! Going after the camera. I've watched sooo many of his video's. I cry a lot times or just have this pain of why. I was on drugs, I was on the streets and I do think there is some stock in what that woman said about 3-4month window... However, I'd have 2 disagree with the time frame. I believe it may anywhere from a full month to 2-2 1/2. I say that because of the ages I was, when on the streets was my home. I feel that depending on the person's age may also plays factor in it as well. Regardless, THIS SHOULDN'T BE HAPPENING!! We claim to be the greatest country "The Land of Opportunity!" Then wtf?

Hello, Mr. Horvath, I recently subscribed to your channel. I really LOVE what you're doing. In fact, since a kid up until now, been having the want to help the homeless from (ALL ages, Every circumstance and situations, Culture, Background, State, ect.) providing them with ("shelter", "great nutrition food", "education" with access to TONS of ("opportunities and tools") they need, to help them get on their feet, "medical", so much more). Well, I'm working on a HUGE project /or organization along with many of idea's. I'm still striving and working very very hard to achieve this dream. Like I always told myself, the sky has NO LIMITS and REACH FOR THE STARS. However, watching these MEANINGFUL, POWERFUL, and HUMBLE video's while I work, puts a smile on my face and pushes me more and more. And to hear each of their stories, always a pleasure. Also, working towards a future U.S. senator, I want to gather as much information to add to my idea's... "HUGE" and "REAL CHANGE" is coming to America, enough is enough! Well, brother, keep up the great work. God be with you and all who help the needy and last but not least, the less fortunate. God bless all...

I can't help but cry with that young girl. I remember when I was homeless with my family at 5 yrs old. My brother was 7. We slept in the back of the car while mom and dad slept in the front seats. It was freezing if seemed with no coats in California. Then we slept on park benches. I slept with my head on my moms lap while she sat up. My dad was sitting up on another bench with my brothers head on his lap. That was thankfully one night. Then we slept in the back of a UHaul truck with a thin blanket sleeping on inflated pool floaties that never seemed to stay inflated by morning. I'm thankful for that experience, it made me who I am. I will always have a soft heart about the unhoused.

This documentary brought me to tears over and over because that was almost me not too long ago, losing a job, unemployment ran out and no one wanted to hire me at 57. I ended with family had a stroke, l am one eye blind and got disability and live with my only child who was taken in by a man who had been like a surrogate father to him since he was 10. We help where ever we can but l raised him that way.....l always told him no one knows what tomorrow holds and you treat people with dignity and kindness. We all have a story. I love the work you do. God bless you. You have given me hope in another caring for others.....for so many of means care about no one but themselves.....thank you....and l too was homeless when l was 18, 19 for a while....and never forget those who helped me and l never think twice about helping another. We can't forget where we have been because we could go there again if certain circumstances present themselves.....Shalom.
