It's highly obvious that this attack was going to end up being blamed on Egypt if this ship had been sunk with no survivors. The most "moral" army on earth which wasn't "defending" itself from anything certainly wasn't going to own up to it.

The title should be: "The Day An Israeli Pilot Accidentally Shot At An American Navy Ship" Friendly fire happens all the time, which is why nations host war games, to better align their communications and fire direction. Most friendly fire happens between soldiers of the same country. Ocean mines, land mines and booby traps, claim lives of not only friendly soldiers, but friendly civilians, as well.
