Even though the intro and b rolls make the path look wet, we waited for the place to dry, so it wasn’t totally wet. Charger shockingly had great grip in most races. Even if it was a dry weather, in my opinion the result would have been the same. Cheers
Good times once again Sam - thanks for the roll race salvation there. Appreciate the invitation and to Xavier for a chance to hang with the big dogs, my ears still hurt. Hope you all enjoy this one.
The second race was in sport but it reads “normal mode 2nd run” on the screen. ( not being a dickweed, at all, love this channel. Just letting you know bcuz you have a formula that is much appreciated and cuts to the chase , no pun intended ).
@@Gtownkeyz Infiniti will never put V8's in Sedans. I think a good dcct would be a huge upgrade to the Q50's shift speeds. Keep in mind the Infiniti is designed to give a luxurious ride first and perform second whereas on the Dodge its the other way around.
@@Fiq921 You are correct. They also have the same engine in the Qx80 and Nissan Armada. I was commenting in the context of the Q50 as that is what was being discussed in this video. The V8 used by Nissan/Infiniti is not designed around performance sedans as much as it is for a heavy duty suv/truck. All Japanese manufacturers focus on smaller high performance motors (V8's don't sell much in Japan) and with fuel economy and emmission standards moving up, forced induction and electrification is the answer for increasing power. Did you know that the Infiniti Q50 hybrid used to put out 360hp and over 400 lbft using a 3.5L NA engine with electric motors.
I ran Michelin PS4 275/40 R20's in Germany. Lots of rain, but 1000% better than the Pirelli all season that came with it. They were trash. Almost disappointed it doesn't lose traction now on every turn or stop light...
@@jasonholloway2577 the Michelin PS4 has the best wet traction of any tire I have ever driven. What a difference from the stock RS A2 which are scary as hell on wet pavement.
Besides the sound which is typical for a non charger fan to comment on how about that perfect launch off the wet track while being weighted like a yacht with no tires spinning? All it takes is the right person to know how to drive these boats.
Infiniti are very nice cars, I own one. They are fantastic daily drivers and a lot of fun. However, if you want to hang with muscle cars you have to visit a tuner. The great thing is, the sky is the limit for tuning these Infiniti. I have not tuned mine yet, I enjoy it in stock form.
Thank you, atleast your honest..I say the same and infiniti fanboys get mad at me. I like speed and power but those cars are not in the same league stock..
Within 5 seconds of that great INFINITI launch , the charger had already evened out the speed and started to pull. Impressed w the rain that it handled this well. I have the wide boy. 21. 305’s all around. Sticky as hell but I still think I would spin in those conditions. Maybe not? Great vid!!!!🎯🔥
I’m sure this has been said before. But would really like to see the speeds of your cars as you race. Your channel is very entertaining and can’t wait for the next ones to roll out. Your races aren’t something you normally see. One of your most surprising races was the Honda Accord vs the Acura TLX. Was not expecting that outcome at all.
That was fun, really surprised the Charger hooked up as good as it did, especially during the moist conditions. I figured the AWD would have given the Q50 even more of a launch advantage. After seeing the Q50 in manual mode, it would have been nice to explore that a little further. That last roll was incredibly close. Great video, thanks Sam, and both car owners.
@@Yves998 put weight in the trunk. I have about 150#s of tools and other gear in my 392 6 speed Challenger and it hooks instantly and handles the crazy twisties where I live so much better.
Charger scatpack owner here. This video put a huge smile on my face 😁🤣 I wanna know how he got it to hook so well. I would of still been at the line smoking tires 🤣🤣
@@DLP78 hahaha. Exactly, that's so funny. My friend has a RS and he keeps he can get a mod, and he will smoke.. What a joke, anybody can do a mod and get their vehicle to be faster than stock. 🤷🏽♂️
Do it. I never owned a dodge before the 392 charger. But i buy a good car when i see one and research it. The charger is an incredibly comfortable car with awesome visibility and infotainment system. Air conditioned seats heated front and rears. Plus that 6.4L v8. Im sorry my neighbor just traded in their x37 for q50 and they think they're hot shit well i just got my Scatpack and its not even comparable. The infinity's always look nice but when he rips out the driveway by my house it sounds like a pos compared to a huge v8. At the least they need a full turboback exhaust and a tune possibly turbo upgrade to even sound close to as good as my STOCK charger exhaust lol plus those snappy shifts out the zf 8spd just puts the dodge in another level.
I own Dodge and Infiniti. Both have held their own. Dodge is 10 years strong, and Infiniti is at 7 years now. No major issues. Both running just fine. And I have a bit of a lead foot.
I already knew the Charger would take it. But honestly I thought the 392 would have taken it by a lot further. I'm impressed with the Q50.. I'm a G35 owner so I watched because of the infiniti but yeah! Great Race.
Hi Sam! Lovely race! I love seeing all different modes. Sam do you think the tuned GLI you featured on this channel can keep up with Q50? Similar power and it weighs less. If u can try it
Scat Pack owner (and Q50RS fan as well) here. Sure, I expected the Mopar to take the wins in the end. Q50 obviously has a weight and AWD advantage, but still really hard to make up for a ~100 hp/torque deficit. Still, it says a lot that the Q50 kept it close throughout. It's a damn fine car! *tips a glass of scotch at the Q50
mine hooks like this most of the time (have full custom exhaust and some other mods including tune) I have the 275 hellcat setup (on Scatpack it's called dynamics package out of factory) and I run through cars just from hooking up pretty good and ran 600cc bikes too and did excellent!!
I think of it, you bring it! It takes the higher end Dodges to overtake the Q50/60. A RWD red sport should be more competitive. Once again thanks for the amazing content Sam.
@@DevPack lmao yeah without tire up grade stock or stock and only feather the throttle out of the hole with suspension on street or use traction control. However traction control sucks which is why nobody can drive them unless you owned one for a good amount of time to learn this. Modded on the street is a joke and even with tire upgrades you need vht and prep or go to the track for traction to exists.
Most of scat owners don’t know how to hook and the guy on the left that drive every cars perfectly hooked tf out the 392 and did it on wet track 😂😂😂😂😂 He turned in to Dom Toretto.
I would def have to say that Infinity did a great job with this car. in a matchup thats V6 vs V8, the Q50 did very well. I wonder how the charger will do against other V8's in its performance class and how the Q50 would do against other V6's in its performance class. Great video Sam!
It would be nice if times were put down. I know humidity, temperature and altitude make a big difference. I'm from Southern Ontario and I'm curious to know what times other q50 red sports are getting here.
Lol US scat owners & daytona owners been told yall stock vs stock yall ain’t beating us 😂😂😂😂 the dude on the left knows how to race these cars and he controlled that boat how it should be controlled 😂😂😂💯💯💯💯💯 now for your suggestions yes lets slap a turbo on our scats like yall and see how fast yall wanna get gapped 😎
As an owner of a 6.4 challenger but also a fan of the q50/q60 cars, Infiniti really could use a better transmission for these cars. The cars would be so much better with a DC auto or a zf 8spd, or even better, a manual. At least the aftermarket TCM tunes can improve the shifting behavior a good bit and they sure do make great power with just a few Bolton’s, tune and some E. An awd Q car would make a fantastic 4 season performance car and fun track car.
Yo Sam…you should do the BMW 330i vs the regular Infiniti Q50 3.0T (not the red sport) Should be an interesting race. Great job on all the races though man, keep doing your thing.
Scat hook well maybe not in the rain with stock tires but do hook so I imagine he was feathering it and had some decent tires for the stock rim that are rated for dry wet use. I run the continental extreme sport DW for my hellcat and they do pretty well in 500hp mode when wet but not 700 plus shit it barely hooks when it’s dry but it does hook. stock perrelli suck in every mode and condition shit I’m surprised they haven’t been sued. Ie the stock ones that Come with the car if you didn’t know.
Reminded me of the time when I was much younger and had what I thought was a nice aftermarket sound system. I had the windows down and the music cranked, until......a van pulled along side me that had an insanely better sound system and drowned my music out entirely. 🤦♂️
@@jimwallace4164 It did sound good for sure, but not sure I would want to hear it in certain circumstances, on long road trips, etc. I think it would get tiring at times.
Got to be one of the most amazing races I’ve seen. In the end of the video Sam commented that placing the Infiniti q50 in manual mode felt more power coming out of the engine. I get the same feeling with my Genesis 5.0… What’s also interesting is the 392 was slower in manual mode compared to being in Automatic. A true testament that every transmission is different. I personally would leave the 392 in Auto as well. The trans shift perfect each and every time, and the kick down is very responsive. Virtually no delay. Therefore, no need to shift manually.
@@justfunstuff5418 na the 392 is faster off the line and can get the 5.0 on the 1/4mile but past that the 5.0 has a better top end in speed and would win the 1/2mile
The transmission makes the biggest difference. My 496 big block smashes the output of the 392, but 8 gears vs my 4 gears. I get what you are saying though 💯
Damn this turned out even better than I thought those drone shots offer unique angles on our cars we don't often get to see. Que fiddy looking, sounding lovely. 🎉🔥🔥🔥
Eventhough I expected the Scat to win, I think the 7 speed in the Q50 is a little dated when compared to the newer, faster shifting 8 speed in the Charger.
Yes, the driver is always the wild card. The driver(s) present the most variables when in similar conditions as evidenced by my botched roll race and Sam's follow up salvation roll race!
I bet traction control was bogging down the charger a bit too from the wet roads. Might have gotten another half a car to a car on each race if it was dry. Still good races tho. And yes manual mode in my 15 R/T is slower than auto mode too.
There is a lot of engine specs differences and it was a great race, very nice Charger,,but that 3.0 liter from that Infinity is quick, comparing it to a 6.4 liter and almost 90 horsepower difference, the Infinity did a great job,,nice job from the Charger even tho it was rainy.
@@Al-qn3sj Okay don't ask me why I did this but looking through stock dyno, tuned dyno, and claimed gains from a tune with both it looks like a tuned Q would have around 420 whp and about 470 wheel tq. A tuned 392 would have 430-435 whp and 455 wheel tq. That's being a bit generous to the scat pack since I had to guess on the wheel numbers and used 10% drive train loss, so those numbers may be off by a few hp and tq. I feel sure the Q would win if both were tuned since it has more tq, isn't down all that much on hp, is AWD, and weighs close to 400 lbs less. I doubt it would walk the Scat though because the Scat is still up on hp and has a much better transmission.
@@GC-nd1lp Curious how you come to the conclusion that a tuned 392 would have 430-435hp at the wheels when its 485 stock at the crank. A simple 93 octane tune will add 30 hp and 30tq. So at minimum you are looking at 515hp and 505 lbft at the crank. A rwd vehicle has less drivetrain loss then a awd car. Not sure how you can add 100lbft of torque to the Q just with a tune. For the record I own a Q50S. The 392 Scat is in a different bracket then the Q.
@@Al-qn3sj Because I watched dyno videos and saw dyno sheets putting the 392 at around 410 whp stock. A tune will add 30ish horsepower at the crank, but you have to account for the drivetrain loss. Obviously AWD will have more parasitic loss but RWD is still around 15% typically, so if you take 15% off of that 30 that you gained at the crank, that will be 25 and there's your 435 whp. I took the numbers for the Q directly from AMS Performance. Their stock Red Sport went from 350 ft lbs to around 470. I don't get why you're surprised that a 3L TT v6 can make +100 ft lbs with a tune when an EcoBoost Mustang can make +75 ft lbs with just cooling mods, an intake, and a tune.
@@GC-nd1lp All dynos are different so you can only compare dyno numbers if both cars were measured on the same dyno. Qurstion for you, are the AMS numbers tune only or mods with a tune? If you include mods it changes everything. Bottom line the 85 hp and 75lbft stock is too much to make up with just a tune. Only way for big gains are mods. But then you have to look at Scat pack mods too.
@@azahelcovarrubias2172 NA 3.7 will easily last beyond 200k. 3.0TT doesn't fair as much and will require much more money. It's way more complex and it's not uncommon for turbo to go at around 100k.
@@andrewatsv2718 you’re comparing a $80k car to a $43k Dodge. If you’re just concerned about straight line speed, you can spend the same money of the Alfa on a HellCat and wipe the floor with it.
the Q50 7 speed may be old but it transforms into a monster in manual mode. I own a 3.7 and the difference between shifts is abysmal in auto vs manual. they just did manual mode on the 50 roll, should've done a dig in manual. great races tho!
The Q50 driver in the Charger shifted the gears too early in the sport mode rolling race... so it gives you illusion that the Q50RS is much much faster in manual shift mode when in fact it's not quite so. It doesn't look like the driver in the Charger knows the car inside out.. If both drivers raced equally skillfully and talentfully then the difference in that race would've been much larger....
@@CEDRICnissan I don't really think so. The AWD was likely the reason why the Q competed at all here - my opinion backed with absolutely zero experience in the RWD version. The transmission shifts quick under heavy acceleration as Sam commented during his salvation roll race. But after some passenger seat time in the C43 AMG that was there you really start to realize how the Infiniti transmission really holds back the capability of the VR30.
