Finally a positive video about a dodge! I just picked up a 1995 dodge slt with 148,000. Has a 318 v8 , 4x4, $700. Looking forward to be in the dodge club!!!
People always talk shit about these rams but I see so many in my town still driving around, yes they are rusted and beat to hell but it seems like they run. I don't think they are as bad as people made them out to be
Yeah not as bad as people make them out to be but they still have a bit of problems. I think they would be a lot better though if the owners wouldn't abuse them and do regular maintenance.
People are gonna laugh, but a second gen Ram is legitimately my dream car. it's just so hard to find a well-maintained one, even moreso here in Europe. Great video though!
Gday, Yep - pretty simple and straightforward - you are right. My experience backs up yours on a 1997 1500 5.9 V8. She has just clicked 500,000km or 312,000 miles for you back in the States rather than Australia (literally which is why I am on youtube having a bit of reminiscence) and you guessed it - engine still original but not the transmission............ shame as based on the old 727 this could have been bulletproof as well. Mine was pre the rear opening doors though which is the only change i would want.
I own a 98 ram LB with the 5.9L engine, my ABS is rear wheel only and I suspect yours is as well. As for the 46RE, I have over 150K on it and it works perfectly, maybe I'm just lucky. I plan the replace the dash with an LMC unit, expensive, yep but worth it
The way to buy Rams and Dakotas, is to buy them 2wd and with a standard transmission. You will have a lot fewer issues with those. Those usually just need small cheap repairs.
if you can find one that trans has been rebuilt and frame is solid you really cant go wrong..they are good trucks..i have plowed with mine past 3 winters and no major problems..
i have a 01 and i love it...you will be doing a trans rebuild eventually thats almost a guarantee....find one thats already had the rebuild you really cant go wrong.
@@guyontheinternet8891 Yea, the rockers are a little bit rusty, and all the wheel openings have just started rusting through. But beside that it seems like a good truck. It's a 1996 Ram 1500 SLT Laramie Sport, 4x2 Club cab. Black. That's a mouthful there lol
If you tire are locking up the sensors on the rotors could be fouled or damaged. I have pull logs on my gooseneck 5.9 gas motor. Grossed out at 27,000 at the scale. One time only. Pulled great. Working on my leaking intake now.
5.9 makes a lot of torque down low people think they have “bad” front suspension, but being a tech it’s always the dude who had the money for big tires but spent all the cash on tires instead of maintenance
Other than the infamous cracking dash tops, there isn't too much difference in reliability when compared to the other brands. I contend Rams are more reliable. Ford had tons of issues with the Triton V8. GM had transmission and dash problems too. GM is also known for electrical gremlins and non-functional gauges. I would take a 2nd generation Ram all day every day over the others. I've owned my 1998 Ram SS/T since new and haven't had any transmission problems and the dash finally cracked (by the passenger side A pillar) last year.
Loved my 97 but the 318 sucked. The intake gasket went. the back couple cylinders burnt out and the thing ate catalytic converters. When I traded it in with 70k it needed a complete engine rebuild. It was sucking down a quart of oil every couple hundred miles. Dodge wouldnt help at all (They claimed the intake gasket was the fix for it all. spent 2 grand to have it done and of course it was only part of the problem)
I've loved 2nd gen Dodge Rams for almost half my life... but after watchinf your vid, how much coke does it take you to keep hurting these poor vehicles
I appreciate the comment! Also I wish thats what went wrong with mine.. my fluids was silver and shiny😂. The converter and clutches tore themselves apart
Im going to do a full review of my lighting setup soon, including the pod lights. It should be up this Weekend. Ill try to be as thorough as i can, but If you've got anything you'd like to know feel free to ask in the comments!
@@westernwashingtonoutdoors4639 i am going to be adding a pod style two stage light next to the factory type fog lights, to which I added to the truck. I am trying to find a bracket idea to mount them in the same place your is.
@@williamsnider6307 what i did is drill a single hole in the plastic trim for the mounting bolt. Ill show it in more detail in my next video. You could also probably drill a hole in the bottom of the crome for a more secure mount
That's always been my number 1 problem with Chrysler... the number 1 priority for Chrysler (in my opinion) is everything need to look good. Being reliable and running right comes 2nd
"Way better than the other oooones"? "Not roooomy"? Wave of the hand? The ride quality is aaaaamaaAAzinggg? Dude you creep me out a bit for being a guy with a truck. 🤣
Actually, I am 100% sure my truck has a 47RE. it is stamped on the tranny near the bell housing and all the parts That went in it when I rebuilt it (converter, clutches, valvebody, ect) were for a 47. the 46RE is very rare in the 1500s, with most of them having a 5.2 with the 46. however, I got lucky and mine came from the factory with a 2500 powertrain. that being the 5.9 magnum HD and the 47RE 4 speed with a locking converter for 3rd and 4th. As for the axle, im not 100% on that but im pretty sure that the solid front axles in these trucks are Dyna 44s, with the 1500s having a 60 in the rear, the 2500s having a 70, and the one tons having Dayna 80s. again, im not sure about that, its just what my 4x4 shop says.
@@frankmartin3182 Its definitely a 9.25, he definitely has one. My 96 2wd does, my 90 4x4 had one with a D44 CAD front, although my 86' D100 had a 8.25 corporate.
