The Viper V10 engined Dodge Ram SRT10 is an absolute beast of a truck on paper, and a vehicle which I've wanted to get my hands on for the longest time. And with this longer wheelbase quad cab version offering even more space and seats, plus an automatic transmission for lazy ease of use, its potential to be a badass daily driver is through the roof.
But how does it feel to drive in practice, especially on much tighter British roads? Well let's take a look at it and review America's premiere production monster truck! - 'Murica!

Sick truck after all these years. The novelty is the best thing about this. It’s from a time that I’m the automotive world that will never ever return. I really like the 2006 year in particular. It has a significantly upgraded interior. Nicer seats, center console, dash. One thing I do prefer are the pre-facelift headlights, those two small “teardrops” look so cool.

Love my srt10 ram. Having a viper drive train and suspension really changed this Ram into something extraordinary, get one if you can. 2006 had a better interior and single cab t56 6 speed and super dyna60 rear end sends it down the road with a lovely 3.5 second 0-60

So you are more than correct when you astutely stated, "This auto version feels like a diesel version with a viper shoved in it" because that is exactly the issue with the quad cabs. The single cabs had a redesigned frame and suspension so it could handle the torque and keep it on the road better like it's car counterpart. If you can come to the states, I'll let you test drive mine and show you the difference. It's amazing.

Cheers, good to know! Pity that it seems they were a little lazy with the Quads, assuming that buyers of that wheelbase wouldn't care perhaps(?)

Ty for making this video. I love my truck and every little upgrade makes a huge difference in performance. Ppl go crazy about it when they see it and let their brains process what it is….after that, they just want a burn out to satisfy them

Yeah, thats more Off-road/Baja, the SRT10 Ram was a street truck. You don't go off road with 22" wheels rear wheel drive and 285mm rear high performance street tires

Hindsight is always 20/20, but keep in mind that the truck is over 20 years old. The technology just wasn't there in 2006! I love it when people say things like "it needs an 8 speed transmission " those weren't a thing in passenger cars back then. Remember 5 and 6 speed transmissions were for manuals, which Dodge started with a manual version of the truck in single cab form. This version was for, if we're being honest, the rich guy who wanted to tow his Viper or his boat.

Nice review. My understanding is that a significant motivation for Dodge in building the 4 door was to offer a towing platform for Viper owners to trailer their cars to the track. If you want visceral excitement, the 2 door 6 speed is the way to go. I own one and love it!

QCs have torque management from the factory to save the transmission. It won't allow full power until you get over 40-45mph unless you use a sct/hp handheld tuner. THEN the QC starts acting more like the RC, not the same but closer. The better option is to t56/tr6060 swap into the QC. However, before I tr6060 swapped my QC I attended a road course school - @DK Racing at @Willow Springs International Raceway and it performed great with the 48re held in tow/haul mode.

The 6 speed manual is so much more fun. The regular cab also has a rear anti roll bar and stiffer suspension. The muffler on these trucks is huge, swapping it out for something more sporty is also a great upgrade.

Almost bought one back around ‘05…. Unfortunately, gasoline was around $4 a gallon back then so I just couldn’t bring myself to do it. I’ve regretted it ever since

wow what a find there in the UK! the 2006 facelift made that truck look so much better, less of a hog nosed affair. Even here in the us the 2006s are pretty rare. congrats. btw could you find and review a Chrysler 300 estate diesel? I have magnum SRT and wish I wasn't getting 18 mpg avg.

I’m very intrigued as to what kind of person, let alone Clanger, would import a Ram SRT-10 into the UK. Did you ever ask the dealer if there was a story behind it?

I didn't, no. lol, but the US performance import sphere has a growing number of fans here. Even in more rural areas its not as crazy to see the occasional Ram or F-150 now. Even driving back home when I bought the Bentley I shared the motorway with a Hummer for a while...felt like we were hand in hand in destroying the world for a moment, lol

To be honest that V10 is always like a workhorse since the last generation before it. And the automatic is always pretty lazy. I see why you say that. Also if it have a 6 speed manual it would be better.

The manual 2 door variant is most likely truer to the sport truck experience I'd guess

I'm curious if the suspension is still as soft though, as that would seriously hamper its cornering ability for me. Unless I was just spoiled with my Touareg. I could chase down Subaru's on backroads with it

I don't really feel like this car needs a "sporty" suspension. Everything about this truck's character screams "I'm a heavy and raw straight line monster" and "I make no sense at all to be on a road" lol. Stiffer suspension really ruins the ride in a lot of cars that don't even have a sport chassis to start with. It's an 8 liter engine but it still has it's maximum potential at fairly high revs so I agree it needs a better automatic or a manual.

Not many quadcabs, and of those, very few were black. Red/Silver were the two main colors for all the SRT10s from 2004-2006

The SRT10 from 2005 can sit 6 people, but the interior is kinda mehh compared to the 2006, although the headlights look better than the 2006.

Everything you said I agree with. 2006 for me just because the interior is SO much more modern and polished looking. I do prefer the 04-05 headlights, something about them.

Incredible find and review, I ignorantly thought no one would import them over here or did it actually come to the UK officially? For the Short time we did have Dodge and chevrolet, I did remember seeing the top of their respective brands in the showroom (ZR1 and Viper SRT 10) so it probably did, but I never noticed.

Never officially imported that I'm aware of, no. But I suspect manufacturers might begin to think about it given the uptick in American trucks in the UK over the past couple of years...

My 2005 single cab SRT-10 is the opposite of what you describe. A couple things to ask does it have the stock gears in the rear end , did you get into the second stage of the gas pedal? What I mean is there is a what I'd call a safety mechanism that will almost completely stop you from being able to put it down to the floor. Very weird I know. I've customized mine in almost every way possible if you'd like to see it, its on my channel mostly in the shorts. Lastly if you drive a 6 speed T56 version even stock most of the things you didn't like would disappear. To me no sports car or truck should be an automatic its kills the whole "sports" part of the vehicle. Good video. Always True, Woody

I agree with you. However, if you're looking for fun, and sound of a high performance truck, look no further than the Ram TRX. It's pretty ridiculous packing a 704Hp Hellcat engine, and a baja suspension to go with it. It's like driving a roller coaster when it's launched. I love the SRT 10 but the TRX is bigger and much faster. The SRT 10 was purposely built to take out the Ford Lighting. As the TRX is purposely built to take out the Ford Raptor. I personally wished Ram would develop a street version of the TRX. Most people who have them drag race with them. 😆 🤣

I really don't see the point in these vehicles. But then I can't be the only one considering they are so rare in the UK. I have seen more pick up trucks in the UK as of late althogh every time I see one they never actually have anything in them apart from a single man or more normally a little old lady. They really are far too big for UK roads.
