On behalf of everyone at Draco Studios, Thanks so much for your review on Dodos Riding Dinos! This made my day, and my whole week. We poured so much passion and love into this game and knowing that you consider it THE BEST game of its genre means a lot to me! I hope this game keeps bringing tons of fun to you.
Just got mine and I couldn't agree more with Tom, nothing pretentious, just straight family fun with excellent components. Hope Mexican game designers start to produce quality games like this more often; as Mexican myself, I'm very excited and proud for their achievement. ¡Viva México!
Have to say I went in with less than low expectations, but this actually looks great! Will try to get a hold of it. Thanks Tom for putting this on my radar!
I would call this genre "Wacky Races", since i believe that's the oldest iteration of this theme. Even Mario Kart is essentially a video game version of those classic Hanna-Barbera cartoons.
im very very proud! of my mexican comrades, also i'm a game designer and im making my own but its different, hopefully one day my game will be here and tom can review it
Hey Tom, we always call games in this genre as an “Arcade Racer“. High action/excitement with moderate to low strategy. Our kids are grown and gone, but I’m getting it for my brothers kids and hoping that I can play when I’m sitting them next. 😉👍
I remember first hearing of Draco Studios when they were developing War for Chicken Island. At the time the best I could do to support them was a $1 pledge but I am glad that they are doing well and getting recognized for it. In the review it stood out to me that the rulebook was good and there was no confusion about what the cards do. I think designers should follow suit and focus more on accessibility and clarity in their games while not forgetting to keep it fun. Thanks for the review!
Nice review!! I just ordered my copy today with a retailer here in México, I am very excited about the game but specially by the minis!! They look great and I can't wait to paint them.
I KSed this one and it does look like a nice fun game to throw into the mix in a meetup. It looks and sounds like it'll be a lot like PC games along the lines of Duck Game and Stick Fight; just good silly fun with friends. I backed War for Chicken Island and Kiwi Chow Down too (which isn't delivered yet). Chicken Island also has nice components but it needs a new rule book and some changes to make it shine, and they mentioned the new rule book coming as a PDF in April or so, and really want to see how they can do with the changes!
Nice game, my son loves it, when not playing the board game with the family, he plays vs his stuffed animals or simply plays with the miniatures, it delayed some to get here to chile but worth the wait.
This game looks like a lot of fun and easy to get to the table!!! Thanks for the review! Battle Racing is what I’ve called it for v-games like Stunt Race FX, Mario Kart, and Wipeout. Not sure if it’s something I heard or made up, but it’s what I call it when referring to that genre.
Tom, can you do a top 10 mario kart games? I have been wanting to get a good mario kart style game for a while now, I will definitely have to pick this up!
Seems a little pricey for a quick family game, perhaps that's just down to low availability. Hopefully the Seal of Excellence means more copies and more affordability!
This game looks awesome! I immediately want a copy, but it doesn't seem like it's available anywhere, unfortunately... and their "pre-order now" button on KS doesn't work either. Also, in the video game world this genre is called "Combat Racing." That's what I've always called the genre for board games as well. :)
I’m going to be pretty honest here, it feels really hard to take a serious opinion from someone wearing a fedora and also looking at that person showcase his multi-colored fedora collection. I’m sorry I’m like this 😭
