Taylor Swift has been busy re-releasing carbon copies of her previous records just to retain more of the profits from them. But why are so many people excited about this obvious cash grab?
She’s still young, so she has the time and energy. And, as you say, she’s a billionaire, so she can afford to do it. There’s a bunch of musicians and record labels that release alternate versions of recordings, or release B-sides that appear elsewhere, all in order to boost sales. Hardcore fans eat this stuff up. But I think she’s also trying to prove a point to the industry that artists deserve more control over their work and that they deserve a slightly bigger slice of the pie that they’ve helped bake.
@@robdisner, I assume it boils down to controlling one’s work and reaping all the rewards. She apparently wasn’t even offered the opportunity to buy the masters. They that did buy them thought they were worth the investment. Michael Jackson bought the copyrights to Paul MacCartney’s recordings, right? There’s a bunch of folks willing to sell the copyrights to their catalogs for hundreds of millions-and that’s on top of the millions they’ve already got. I guess the short answer is money.
