Ooh I cannot decide whether to tell you "Congratulations" or "Girl, What were you thinking?"!!! Lol😅😂 My hair is long now because I also stopped going to the Hairdresser when I became ill & dragging it up into a bun is to get it out of the way more often than not. I do think you can get to a point where long hair stops looking like a fashionable frame for your face and starts to look like a desperate attempt to hang on to youth and makes you come across as "Mutton dressed as Lamb" kinda thing.

@@essemsween818 Mutton done up as lamb! I use to think that. From about 30 to 60, I did the right thing and had my long hair cut really, really short. At the beginning of 2013, I was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Well I rebelled and started going my hair out. Turns out my tumor was benign but I will remain on watch for the rest of my life. I continued growing my hair and it is now about 2 to 3 cm off Classic length? For those who don't know, that is to the tailbone. I usually wear it in a bun when I go out. I only wash it once a week. I did wear it down on our last cruise in a pony tail and got some great comments. I am blessed as I as born a natural blonde and I swear, at 65 I am still a natural blonde. My friends keep asking when am I going to catch up with them and go grey or white. Actually if I go white, I would be returning to my natural colour as a young child. I have never dyed my hair. I no longer need to get it cut every six weeks, so save on the hairdresser. In this day and age, if people of all ages are walking around with bodies covered in tattoos which I simply don't like, then I can surely have long hair.

I have some questions for a truly experienced henna user from someone with virgin hair who wants to try henna for the first time. Also, all my experience is with chemical drug store box dyes, I know that very well, with a good decade of experience. It's just been years since I dyed my hair with anything (2014 was the last time!). -I don't want black hair, I want a very cool, dark brown hair shade, an ash dark brown with no red. This is my natural color, I love my natural hair color, but I have started to get gray/ white hairs. Is there a henna dye to achieve that color? I have heard that any color gets darker and darker over time (true with chemical dyes, as well), but I know to dye my whole head and then do root touch up an inch out from the root, with some full hair henna sessions to refresh the color, periodically. That's how I did my chem dyes years back. I imagine that there is some way to play with henna by adding a touch of indigo, using black coffee as the liquid, and mixing it with something else that will "ash up" the dark chocolate brown and indigo to remove red tones. Any thoughts or advice or expertise? BTW, thank you for any consideration, I have been looking into this for a while. LOL, I used to just get a box of dye and throw it on my hair just because "the color was cool" not giving a care about anything. Now, after growing out all my dye just to see if I like my gray coming in (I do like it, but I'm still pretty young and miss my dyes!), I am extra cautious and have been watching and reading a ton of material on this topic. @@alicesrabbit7126 it might be hard to get the result you wand with Jenna, since the base plant always has reddish undertones. But there are some varieties that day chestnut on the box, they are a bit cooler. Also, I am not really sure about your idea to do just the roots, you might very well get a demarcation line, especially with the first 3 to 4 applications, because it fades pretty quickly the first few times. What I suggest, if you don't want to darken too much, is to apply the henna on the roots, leave it for about one hour, add some to the lenghts and leave it in for another half hour. Keep in mind grey hair are more difficult to coat with natural dyes than chemical ones. Because henna covers around the hair, and does not replace the pigment inside the hair. Also, when you try once and feel how soft your hair gets, you will definitely want to cover everything every single time to strengthen as well !

@@alicesrabbit7126 also, always add some acidity with cooler tones such as indigo, it helps them develop stronger over the red. And never use shampoo when you rinse it, only the next day because it needs to oxydize with air

Thanks for replying. :) For the root touch-up, perhaps I could not make a straight line, I could stagger it to blend it down more, and then like you say, let it develop at the root longer before applying it to the rest of my hair for the last half hour, or just add it in small sections all over, or something like that to blend away any parts that may get darker. IDK, I'm okay with experimenting like that, I accept that it will take me a while to get the hang of it and get to know the product and the details, tips, and tricks. I am okay with black hair, honestly. It's better than anything that comes out red. If that's what it takes to get rid of the red tones, I look great with jet black hair, in fact, I did have that for years just because it looked natural on me, it was incredibly easy, and no hassle. I would be okay with chocolate brown, that would be fine, too, as long as it doesn't fade into a redish color! Yes, I did hear that you add lemon juice or apple cider vinegar in 1 - 2 tbsp amounts and also, some kind of oil in a tbsp as well (I forgot the kind), but could you substitute with olive oil, almond oil, avocado oil, etc.? I mean, it's common sense to assume that any oil will do, but I'm new, so. :) And yes, I did hear that you want to let it develop for 8 - 12 hours after mixing everything by covering it with plastic. Some people let it develop without the indigo, and then add the indigo after that 8 - 12 hours, and some people add the indigo and let it develop for the 8 - 12 hours. I assume waiting to add the indigo helps in keeping the color a dark brown instead of a black? Is that right? Wow, you said leaving it on (indigo) for only two hours! LOL, maybe I will just go back to black. ;) That would certainly solve the whole getting too dark problem, and I assume it would just be easier to cover the grays, too. ;) I heard people say that they don't rinse it out and will wrap their head and sleep with it, I heard people say that they rinse it out after a few hours and don't wash it until the next day. What do you say about mixing, waiting for the mix to develop before putting it on your hair, when to add indigo, at the beginning or right before application, how long you leave it on your hair, whether or not you cover your hair up while it develops, how long do you leave it in your hair before rinsing, and how long do you leave your hair unwashed? What products to you use? What brands? Where do you purchase online? What ingredients are best for dark browns? What ingredients are best for ash tones and no reds? What ingredients are best for blacks? Can you create your own formulas for different colors depending on the amounts of ingredients that you add? Like, I'm assuming that you can add a little indigo to soften the red tones of browns all the way up to adding a lot to just get jet black. @@alicesrabbit7126Wow that is a lot indeed, but I'm glad if I can help ! I live in France and I find my henna either in the supermarket when I only want red / mahogany, but I go to the beauty section in organic stores here they have a lot and it's pretty cheap (about 5$ a box). I guess an equivalent in the US would be trader Joe's but I'm not sure... Sometimes I use what they call black henna, which is pre mixed in boxes, and if I remember correctly there is regular henna and indigo in it. When I use that, I mix the powder with BOILING water and some acid (lemon or vinegar) and leave it alone for about 1-2 hours before applying. Then I leave it on the hair for 4-5 hours, but that's only because it is kinda hard for indigo to grip on regular red henna. Depending on the brand, variety etc, you might need to try and see what works with your hair. For the reds, I don't even really let it sit before applying so... Yes you can use any oil, my favorite is coconut :). What it does mostly is to avoid clumps in the paste and have it rinse much easier in the end. My hair is down to my 🍑 crack, so it makes a big difference for me ! I always cover with plastic and never sleep with it, because 1)having it in plastic keeps it warmer with the heat of your body and 2) I don't want to ruin my floors, furniture and pillow with henna drips :p You can try to find your henna on Amazon, they have a great selection, look for "brown henna" and you will most likely find something you like, just stay away from any box with a photo of a pretty lady, it's probably some chemical crap with 1% henna extract ! Those labeled as browns are blends. They are usually more warm than ashy, but won't be red. And the great thing with it is also that if you don't like the end result, you don't need to wait 4 to 6 weeks to do it again because it doesn't dry your hair and burn your scalp. Just shampoo a bit more than you would usually for a week, and reapply a different one ! Just patch test to make sure you have no allergy, because that could burn ! Also don't worry about it fading to red after a while. It's not like chemical dyes when some undertone pigments can last longer in your hair, and you started off with black only so see it turn blue or green after a while. The color basically becomes more transparent after a while and comes off from around your hair, nor from within. Let me know if you have more questions ! I'll be 70 on July 5, belong to a hunt club with many bearded men and I can't grow one. It's not that a beard won't grow, it's that it is pure white while my head hair is strawberry blonde with very little grey in it and I'm sure everyone would think I'm dying my head hair.That is the bravest video I think I've ever seen. Hon you have earned every grey hair you have. You may think it has aged you but grey hair is really in style now! Even young girls in their 20's are dyeing it grey. If it's kind of yellowish just get a decent blue shampoo. I use it once a month and it keeps it pretty. Maybe soften your makeup a little compared to what you would normally wear with dark hair and you won't believe the difference that makes.
