Just a quick tip: the longer u let the henna sit before application the quicker the color release and then you don't have to sit with it as long on your head. If you leave your mixture sit for 24-48 hrs before application you could probably get away with leaving it on maybe an hour and a half, two hours max as the dye has all been released . I try and always do that now because i don't have the patience to let the mixture sit on my head for 3-6 hrs. Let the mixture sit covered for a day or two and you'll get much faster results. Happy hennaing!
@@marecee1054 I used too because the acidity would bring out more of the red tones but i stopped using them. I find using lemon or ACV to be very drying to my hair and the henna is already naturally drying. You always need to follow up with a good moisture mask afterwards. Its plant based , so it doesn't destroy the cuticle like chemical dyes but the henna is still drying until it sets into the hair. I found using aloe vera powder helps alot. I just add it to my mixture for added moisture and poof no more dryness. I still do a hair mask afterwards but using the aloe has really made a difference in my hairs moisture level after application.
@@carrie8541 thanks for your quick response...I'm thinking now of using milk (seen this in other videos) and an essential oil. What do you think of that instead of the lemon juice? So I'll just do this for now, it's been awhile since i used henna.
Stick a towel you don't care about in the dryer for a little while then wrap it around the plastic bag and your head. It'll keep your head warm longer.
First-time user: I was skeptical about your advice keeping the henna for a week before shampooing as I couldn’t believe it’s possible. Happy I tried. This is a game changer. Very happy with the results. Thank you!
Exactly. The color is still oxidising in your hair for a few days after your henna application so you need to shampoo before your application not after. I rinse the henna out with water only and then do a mask. That's all.
Just an intensive mask.. any kind really... but do a hydrating mask. Not just a conditioner. Henna can make it feel dry for a few days much like a protein treatment. Its not really dry but feels that way for a couple of days after an application till the henna settles. So put moisture back in with a hydrating mask. Not a protein one. An argan or shea butter mask would be ideal.
Carrie, I read that oils are the only thing that can strip henna colour from your hair. I wouldn't risk a mask with oils, unless the henna came out too dark. Even though, it obviously works for you 😊
Today I put the henna for the first time and I am very happy with the result. My hair is dyed and it permeated through my gray hair. 😘 thank you so much 😘
You convinced me to get that henna brand and just got it today in the mail. Watching the tutorial again to prepare myself to get my hair dyed with henna for the fist time. Yay!.
I followed your instructions and mine was awesome. I am doing my. second my grey came out with reddish tint which was awesome because I didn't have to do roots so quickly. My hair looks amazing and soft ! ❤
You gelped me sooo much! First 2 times my mom helped me to do the henna in my hair. And right now i watched your video again and did it my self! So proud hahah🎉 again Thankyouu!!❤
I've been using Henna on my hair to cover greys for about 3 years now. I recommend it to all of my friends. My biggest issue is I live in an older house with slow drains and the henna clogs them up badly. I just rinse it out outside initially in warmer weather then finish in the shower. Thankfully I live in the south so there are only a couple of months where rinsing outside is not an option. Have henna sitting in my hair right now. I broke my right shoulder in November and washing my hair was a challenge for three months. Then a month after healing from my broken shoulder I broke my right index finger making washing my hair a challenge for a couple of more months. It's been about 10 months since my last henna treatment. I'm so excited about rinsing it out now.
Daumn, what gorgeous colour! I wish I'd have known about this years ago when I was dying mine red all the time!! Now, black is my colour of choice and just waiting for my henna and indigo to get here!
Wow...so beautiful. In your thumbnail pic, I actually thought you used a pic of Isla fisher. I know this vid is from 2016, but if my hair came out that gorgeous....I would always dye it the exact same way. Thanks for the tutorial.
I've watched a few videos on this and yours is my fave, Thank you! Wish I had watched yours first, I use Hair conditioner on my hairline skin, ears, neck I did my first Henna coloring my hair like this too!
Very helpful, thank you! I found my fav color, which is an argan oil 7RG... but I wanna do something healthier. And I figured I want to stay consistent with a similar shade for henna. Has to be healthier. You left no tips out. Much appreciated! Gonna give that light mountain brand a shot 😊
Awesome! I just started putting henna in my hair for a very slight redish shine and its was working out okay but not to the extent as I wanted it. But after watching your tutorial the results are perfect. Thank you so much!
Thanks! Don't be scared, it's so safe for your health and not damaging to your hair. If you don't like the color result you can always change it - that is the beauty of hair and creativity! Do a strand test to check colors if you aren't sure which color you should do!
I use my hands, as well, but without turning my head upside down. My back couldn't take it! I make a mess by the sink, probably because I use more water in the mix, but it washes off easily (do it straight away!) I've never dared use just henna, as my hair is lighter and I'm worried about it going orange, so I add indigo. But I love your red, so I'm going to take the plunge!
You look awesome with red hair !! I wish I could do that but red doesn't look as good an a Chinese girl lol. I'll be just using black. Thanks for the tutorial it was super helpful!!!
Beautiful results...I wish I can find a video instructing how to do henna for greying hair, that doesn't use indigo. I wasn't dark originally, I was brownish red, that got strawberry in the summer!!! But henna on grey turns out very orange!! I wish I knew how to tweak the brightness and enjoy the healthy benefits for hair!!!
You might try an medium color from the brand I use. They have ones that have only a slight amount of indigo to give a lovely range of medium browns and reddish colors. That might work for you!
Yes , try more of a bergundy shade of henna rather than a copper one. Also keep in mind, that the longer the mixture sits on your head, the darker the stain.
Hi:-) Tori, your hair look like nice, beautiful color!:-) .....now I tried henna for first time and I only kept her for 3 hours, but next time i will try overnight too. Thank you fot the tip. ..have a nice day, S. :-)
Great video! I had a very bad experience with chemicals which lead to having bad SCALP a and it turned my roots grey. So over 70% of my head is covered with grey. Please guide me if I use henna on my blonde Highlights would it look funny. So my base colour is brown and have blonde highlights. What henna colour I should use to blend it with brown and blonde highlights which will also cover my greys. Thank you 😊
Tori, this video is awesome, your'e awesome! I'm going to be doing henna soon because it's a natural way to dye hair, and i didn't know how to do it until now. THANK YOU!!
Thank you so much for sharing this information. But in my box I have 2 packages. One is green colour and the other one is little lighter colour. I noticed that you used only one package. I wonder why you used only one package. I better read again the instructions. It’s a long procedure but it’s worth I guess. I bought it in health food store for $18.00 in Canada. First time I’m going to do it. Your hair colour convincing me to do it. Thank you so much again. Have a healthy, happy, wealthy and prosperous new year. 🙏❄️🌺🍃⛄️🥂
Great vid! Can't wait to try henna! I love your color. Where did you get the plastic bag to cover your head? What are they called (size) and where to find please?!
Thanks for this video! Good work. Good tips, yogurt-like consistency & no metal... and especially no washing for a few days after! Noone told me that before... I thought I had "messed up" with it the first time (I kinda did, it wasn't silky, my hair was frizzy, it wasn't freshly washed & I followed another youtuber who was a 1st timer also and used tea & stuff...and washed with shampoo to get the weird henna smell out...) The metal is a good reminder, I keep thinking to use distilled water, others use coconut milk, think I'm gonna try that my 2nd go 'round...
@@torinoelle7215 I like how my hair turned out by mixing the Henna with coconut milk... silky, but it took a few days for the color to show up until then my hair was that weird baby poo color
Yes i find rose is best for the scent and it also counteracts the earthy smell of the henna. I'm going to order your White Mountain Henna in Bright red from Amazon. It looks gorgeous on you. It looks very pigmented. Right now i use Henne Henna and Red Raj from Henna Sooq. They are both good quality organic henna but i love trying new brands. Try mixing it with Rose oil. You'll love it. May i ask how many hours you leave your henna mixture on? Your color is very vibrant. I usually leave mine on for about 6 hours.
Hi! According to the instruction included in the pack henna should be mixed with a distilled water. You didn't mention it in your video. I just would like to know how important that is.
When I first started using henna I followed that instruction very strictly. However I have NOT noticed a difference when I use any other kind of water. I just make sure to warm it in a glass or plastic bowl, but I have used tap water, bottled water, filtered from the fridge... etc. If you want to use distilled, then go for it! But don't stress if you need to use some other kind ;)
It's important if your tap water has a high mineral salts content, or impurities. If not, it should be okay. Some spring waters could have a high mineral content (Volvic actually tastes salty to me!)
I dye my hair red all the time so I was wondering can you use henna over a chemical dye? Here's a tip you can use petroleum jelly on the hair line to prevent staining the skin. Such a beautiful color!!!!
I have gotten some great results using henna over chemical color. I talk more about this and other tips in my newer "Henna Master Tips" video if you want more info. Good luck :)
I know this comment is two years old, but for anyone else who might like an opinion, I wouldn't do it if you've used chemical dyes in the last 6months maybe? You can have weird results on top of other dyes, so do a strand test!
Hi I loved your video! So many hours exactly did the henna stayed in your hair ? You mentioned you went to sleep on it but then you take it off around 3:00am?
Hi Tori, forgot to mention that I was under the impression that you can't add oils with henna because it won't work. How much oil did you add to your Henna mix?
So I dyed mine with the auburn just to see if I would like it, I love it!! My roots are growing fast if I dye over my entire head with the red instead will my roots be darasticly different than my new color my natural color is medium brown
I find adding lemon juice makes it even drier. I agree that the acidity will give a better color release but its sooo drying. If your going to add lemon juice really do a good mask after and leave it in for atleast 30 mins.
Love it! Have been using chemical dyes for years and I've gone all natural with most other things and for some reason never did that with hair dye. But I've been getting some grey and prior was dying 2x a year and now I need to every month or two. And it's too drying. So I'm excited to try henna. I love red hair. Mine is a med to dark brown naturally. Does this bleed with each wash after like chemical red dye does?
Wonderful color!! I'm from quebec and i dont speak well english like you do, but i will try😜 Every 4 weeks, i have to dye my hair and i'm 80% white at the top and side of my head, i'm 45😳, it is a good idea to with henna? Because i will need to do this every 4 weeks!! It's way better for my hairs i guess. When i applied rhe chemical dye, my scalp is burning and after, it's itchy for 3 days. Do you have a video, that explain how to choose the good color? I saw the one with your mom and your were using 2differents colors. Thanks a lot
Natural henna doesn't come in different colours. Black henna etc contains chemical dyes which have been mixed into the henna powder. The final colour depends on the original colour of your hair. If you start with white/blonde hair, you get the orangish tinge from henna. If your hair is light-medium brown, the final colour would look more reddish. If you have black hair, henna will not change the colour of your hair.
You shouldn't use chemicals over hair that's been dyed with henna that has metallic salts - it turns into a gooey mess! Pure henna or indigo should be ok, but do a strand test first, just in case.
Gorgeous hair! Very inspired to use henna, but I've read that heat styling after causes the colour to darken. Did you blow dry your hair after you'd finished the whole colouring process?
Firstly, thank you for your videos! They've been very helpful and insightful. I have dark hair like you and am having a really hard time covering my dark roots. The rest of my hair is fine as it was recently dyed red using chemical dye but I can't get the henna to go over my roots! I'm kinda freaking out here because I love the henna but don't know what I'll do if I can't touch up my roots! I noticed that you apply your henna to damp hair. I've been applying it to dry hair so maybe that could be why? I'm not sure but if you have any advice I'd be very grateful!!!
Nas R thanks for asking! I do find that henna covers my natural color better when I have my hair wet! It keeps the henna active longer. I would also make sure to let it saturate for a long time so it can develop the color you're going for. It's not going to be the same as the ends of your hair, but it will be closer (like mine in this video- the ends are much brighter, but the top is still red and fades to the brighter color). Hope this helps!
