Lots of mentions in the comments for an infinity bottle for the leftover whiskey from our channel tastings so we figured we’d post a pinned comment. In theory that’s a great idea until you consider all the inevitable backwash accumulating and marinating over time. 🤢 We’ll continue to save and finish the rest of special pours that pop up, but there’s no need to selvedge half an ounce of Wild Turkey 101, 1792 Small Batch, or the like in our minds.
I had an infinity bottle for a while, but though at times it was good, it never was as good as the good stuff I put into it - and mostly it wasn't good.
Should do this with the mid teir or better bourbon and try to do a weekly video on the remainder. After having pours of some stuff, especially if I like it I can't pour it out if I can help it. Sometimes i start to pour like 2- 3 pours at a time if i know ill be drinking that night to let them open up. 14:33 I'll make it to more of a cocktail or put a lid on my glenclairen to drink later if I can't finish it though. But yes, if having 300+ bottles, no big deal to pour out a little bit of each of a blind to not feel terrible the next morning. Not that the bottle would sit long or if it's bad, no biggie, you would have poured it out anyway.
My husband got me into whiskey a few months ago. I found y’all and I have been watching and shared the channel with my husband. I have learned SO much from watching your content!! Thank you so much for what you give us!!
Thanks so much for the kind words Mandy! We're so happy to have you on board and it's always when couples connect with our content and community. Cheers to you both!
WOOOOO! Diamonds are forever and so is Stuff & Whiskey. Heres another vote to changing the pours unknown to include scotch and international whiskies! Y’all are the best, thanks for the shows!
I’ve really missed your Wildcard Wednesday series….so please include international whiskey in your Pours Unknown videos!! Love the channel….never miss a video! Cheers from NJ!
Thanks so much Wayne! We're just us--for better or worse--but it's always nice when our approach resonates with others. We always try to keep it down to earth and laid back around here. Cheers and thanks for watching!
My wife and I have together have 4 kids & having step kids are awesome. Erin describing her step daughter was great to see! You guys rock & love the content💪🏻
It’s funny you mention the loose cork on the Jack bottle. I literally just bought a bottle of Single Barrel Select and noticed when I went to pull the cork it was pretty loose.
Just tried banana pancakes last night. Super yummy. I think I'm going to make a small bottles worth and use an empty 375 JD SiBBP bottle as a decanter.
Thank y'all for adding my question to your video and for the shout out. I like the idea of adding whiskies from around the world...occasionally. I've been getting into some Scotch after a 30 year no Scotch hiatus. I've also been adding some Irish. I'm going to get some Glenlivet and a few other 50ml to try. Also just got my curbside haul from Dallas yesterday. Got a Teeling, 13th Colony, Ben Holladay Red Wheat, Traveller, Longbranch, Rebecca Creek..and as per Erin's recommendation, a Middle West Dark Pumpernickel Rye. I'll be busy tasting for the next few months😂🥃🥃
Hi guys , I am English , living in Mexico , we don’t get a good choice of whiskeys here . Not even Rare breed but I love watching your shows .I appreciate the content and when I got back to England I bought some of your picks, rare breed especially was a hit . Would love to see more international whisky included , I used to love seeing the vids you did. One pleated whisky I love and is my favourite drink is Port charlotte 10 year , total bacon smoke in a glass. We get that here too !, Wish we could get some real choices here . Wild turkey 10 is a fav too we get here. Keep up the good work and keep the banter going , I like the more off the cuff laughs too. Cheers to you both .
I’m not sure about all these international whiskeys getting mixed in with the bourbons and ryes of the “pours unknown “ , but I could definitely see the American single malts and American whiskeys being a part of that. Especially the American single malts. It’s a whiskey that really took off in the last few years, and we already have some really great, delicious ones.
I once spilled a bottle of wine in a hotel vending room. I had gone with the bottle to fill up the ice bucket for my wife, sat it on the floor and while I was getting the ice I kicked it by accident in it fell over and broke and spilled all over the place. It was a sweet wine and the aroma, actually the stench, stuck around for way too long.
Unpopular opinion, i do not like scotch at all. But your blind format is so cool, I would probably watch even though it’s not my jam. Also, I love that your background and set is simple and you avoid the mega-shelf with dozens of bottles I can neither afford nor find. Thanks for keeping it “real”!
We appreciate the kind words. We’ve gotten a few special bottles over the years but by and large we rarely see high profile bottles, and we’re certainly not ones to show off. Whiskey is fun but it’s really all about community for us. Cheers and thank you for watching!
Great eye on the Explorer! It’s a 114270 36mm circa 2001. 40th birthday/20 years with my company milestone piece. Such a huge fan of this model and reference.
Recording a Q&A today for quite a while down the road (April) but this is a great question and we're definitely answering it! But not to keep you in suspense, we're team shaken usually.
Hi guys, Sounds like Erin's preference in spirits almost exactly aligns with mine. Would def. enjoy more international (read single malt) content. Thanks!
Have you tried the Teeling wonder of the woods finished in chinquapin oak batch one limited edition. Love it. My flavor profile is oaky caramel cotton candy
Good Q&A. I'm against mixing the international whisky in the blind pool. I don't have any interest for international whisky (Not because I don't like them but I'm limiting myself to Bourbon/rye) so I'd be less likely to watch bourbon vs other international whisky. I'd prefer it separate.
Can you talk about the decanter you use? Pros/Cons? What makes a good one? I was given one for Christmas and started an infinity bottle at the end of December. I'm using all similar proof bourbons with no finishes. I did a dry January, so I'm excited to try this in a couple of days.
That’s actually a great question and not one we’re well versed in admittedly. The only thing we know for sure to look out for is lead-based crystal. Steer clear there. If it’s lead-free crystal or glass then you’re golden. Infinity blends can be fun and interesting for sure. Hope it turns out great for you!
Yes add other spirits in ! I am a big fan of bourbons and ryes but I have all types of spirits in my collection. My palate aligns more with Josh but my spending aligns more with Erin. LOL
Combine your pools...being an equal opportunity drinker myself, I like to see content that covers the globe. That's why I was drawn first to the Whiskey Vault.
I am newer to your channel and am enjoying your content. Since the term “whiskey” encompasses Scotch, Irish, Japanese, Tennessee, and International …i would like to see you add them to your content. I have recently tried scotch and, although i have always thought it to be a too smokey for my choice, i am willing to dive deeper into them. So maybe a video on scotch for beginners or scotch 101 and explaining flavors and peated smoke etc. same with Irish, Single Malts etc. I associate Irish with Jameson and I did not like that at all. So i guess my response is yes. Please add other Whiskeys to the content and if you need any more ideas…. I can definitely send them to you. Lol. Thanks and keep up the good work!
So I would like you to do tasting on scotch peeted malts etc I only have Highland Park 12 yr and Cosiair Triple Smoke My love is Rye whiskey but would like to see some of your review on single malts etc
Jim Beam was what I cut my bourbon teeth on. Since then I’ve tried many others. However, one I never see reviewed or in a blind is JB single barrel. Any chance of that getting in your show?
Question.... my all time favorite bourbon is blue note uncut. I have 7 bottles. If you're familiar with this (and I realize every barrel was different ours 15046 was 116.5 proof) can you recommend something I might like that I may not have tried yet?
Great question! We're big fans too. As single barrels, we've noticed the ones we've tried have varied quite a bit. Some fruity, some have a candy bar profile, and some have a fun funky quality to them. Knob Creek 120 proof single barrels and Russell's Reserve single barrels are great alternatives in our mind as far as the profile we most associate with Green River, and it's well worth checking out any good MGP single barrels too (which for us Nashville Barrel Co stands out head and shoulders above the crowd there).
@@stuffandwhiskey thanks so much! A new store I found a few weeks ago had a knob 9 single barrel high proof under $50. Next time I drive by there I will try one. Was OZ tyler (Green river) where they sourced the blue note uncut barrels?
Question for Next Time: I know that I periodically get burned out by whiskey, whiskey content, whiskeytube nerd fights, etc. How do you personally deal with or avoid burnout...without accumulating 300+ bottles. Personal note, this is the ONLY channel I comment on as it is devoid of the negativity that is rampant online. Cheers.
Recording a Q&A today for quite a while down the road (April) but this is a GREAT question and we're definitely answering it! Thank you for the kind words by the way Ian. Life is too short for negativity. Cheers!
I'd love to know what foods you like to avoid before drinking whiskey AND what foods you think pair well with whiskey. I haven't found any foods that I like when drinking whiskey but I do know to avoid some things like oranges before tasting because it hinders things so much IMO.
Recording a Q&A today for quite a while down the road (April) but this is a great question and we're definitely answering it! Erin and I approach this quite differently.
Whether or not you should include world whiskeys in Pours Unknown is in the name. Of course you should include world whiskeys and other spirits! Cuz as it stands now you know you're either getting bourbon or rye and that narrows things down quite a bit. 😆
Great Video. If you really feel the need to give some bottles away, I could take the burden of accepting some. LOL Please keep the pours unknown to Bourbons.
😂😂 yep! We don’t need to keep “just okay” whiskey half full of backwash. The stuff we love during tastings is the stuff we drink after the tastings. It’s a solid system for us.
Just bought a titanium flask..gave it a quick rinse out with soap and water but the inside of the flask wont seem to dry out completely...is this normal or im i doing something wrong?
That’s actually good question and not one we know the answer to. Having bottled whiskey ourselves at the Heaven Hill bottling experience, we’d recommend some compressed air to physically force the drying process.
I think you need to buy some land in TN and everyone in the Patreon community can start a commune. You can lead us in tastings and have a studio audience doing your videos. We can also all share our love of whisk(e)y. Wait...does that sound a bit cultish? 🤣🤣🤣
The tricky part of double blinds like we do is that we have to have some uber-rare heavy hitters as possible draws as well as some bottom shelf stuff. Gotta keep the integrity of the blind pool in tact so that we stay on our toes.
I really like the fact that you guys admit to liking scotch. Soooo many bourbon channels portray scotch as the devils juice. I love scotch but also enjoy bourbon as well.
Infinity bottle for leftovers! Then you can review every few months . Knowing Josh he will make a list of what's in it. Maybe better than mad scientist approach.
7:31 I'm a-sippin' on a Knob Creek Kelly Liquors store pick right now. But the regular Knob Creek 9 is mighty good too. 🙂 10:41 I would suggest *not* putting Scottish or Irish whiskey up against bourbon. That would be like putting German chocolate cake up against cheese enchiladas - they're both delicious, but they're entirely separate categories. 12:40 Erin, how can you not know Ric Flair? 😮 Of course, most people only know him from his time in the WWF... 17:13 Y'all's daughter sounds like someone I'd enjoy knowing. She sounds something like my own daughters - who are not 12, but probably about y'all's age. Shoot fire, my granddaughter will be 19 next month. 😂 Okay, write me down as ignorant - what's 40AF? I've never heard of that.
International wouldn’t be in the head-to-heads for clarification. It would be the single sample draw for Monday videos. It’s still a logistical challenge we’re trying to figure out (both how to pull it off and if it’s even worth it).
Here's a Q (I'm sure Josh will love this). Why do RU-vidrs still say "Comments down below"? Where else are there comments? Saying "down below" is redundant. I'm being a little cheeky, but still. We know the comments are down below.
With all of your left over whiskey why not just make huge infinity bottles and give them to your patreons like a few channels do...just something to think about...cheers!!
I for one don't prefer Scotch. Single malts are fine. Just getting into American single malts. If you put international offerings on a different video that would be great
