After struggling to read the card, David Mitchell claims that he can no longer drink orange squash, because it sends him beserk.

I like that he defines 'berserk' as a bit giggly. I imagine the Viking Berserkers in their animal pelts giggling and exchanging pleasantries in a slightly louder than normal voice.

It must be the panelists writing the cards though, right? For the true ones at least. Otherwise, how would the show know? So if drinking Orange Squash truly sent David Mitchell 'berserk', it would be, by the card, _his_ definition of berserk...

the writers ask them for stories, so they don't know what the precise wording will be even for the trues, but judging his reaction to the card that was not per se how he would use berserk!

I like how David actually plays the game, like of course it's funny when Lee makes an obvious lie obvious, but I prefer when they're funny and sneaky

To me personally, the charm of British funny shows (vs American ones) is that it's much less competitive, and comedians recognize that they are doing it to make people laugh instead of trying to win.

Of course it's a lie. David Mitchell has never been berserk, and also he would never believe that Orange Squash would cause such an effect, as this is not possible.

It used to be a Thing. Back in the 80s/90s a common additive in orange squash, tartrazine, caused kids to become hyperactive.

Thank goodness for Google so I could figure out why it would be called Orange Squash in the UK and Orange Crush in the US. I was relieved to find they are different types of orange beverages and there isn’t an orange drink name cultural divide to which I’ve been oblivious.

@@Calmontheoutside Orange squash (a non fizzy drink that you dilute with water) is popular in the UK. We used to have a drink called orange crush, back in the 1970s. I can't remember having seen it for many years. I think it was fizzy.

It's concentrated orange flavored drink. So you have to mix it with water. You get it in NZ and Australia but maybe not where you are.

I had to google it, it's made of juice, sugar, and water. So, like lemonade but with oranges. Edit: I made another comment, once I noticed orange squash is made with whole oranges, not just the juice.

@@ACE53621 it’s not like lemonade because squash is still/non carbonated. Lemonade in UK is fizzy/sparkling. Squash also needs to be diluted with water.

@@Hmk83when I first looked it up, I didn't see it's made from whole fruit. I meant it's like US lemonade, in that US lemonade is water, sugar, and lemons, and orange squash is water, sugar, and orange. There is no carbonation in lemonade here. A squash is water and sugar, boiled to make a simple syrup, or concentrated sugar syrup, that is added to fruit to make a drink. It looks like the entire orange is actually blended and used, which is different from how lemonade is usually made in the US, since we usually just use the juice. I get that you are talking about the mix, so that's going to also have colors and preservatives and citric acid added to it. I guess the closest we have to the mix here is tang, and bottled I guess would be Sunny Delight.

I wish I could go back to that good old time when, for a few sunny minutes, it was possible to imagine a world in which Sir David Mitchell (I say Sir because he's basically a cinch for the OBE, this'll save me going back and editing it later) gets giddy and wrangy before bed if he has too much sugar.
