The Marantz is a fully featured receiver with 75 watts @ 8 ohms and 100 watts at 4 ohms before clipping, according to some reviews I've read. It's a dual mono class AB amp, not a cheap class D amp that is mostly useful only to power sub-woofers. So on paper it should sound fairly decent and I listened to it and it's not bad at all. No, it's not a McIntosh, Levinson or Krell and doesn't try to pretend it is, but at 700 dollars it's a bargain and some would say even a steal.

A little more research would have helped. The NR1200 can and does drive 4 ohm speakers. There's a setting buried in the manual to set the resistance to 4-6-8 ohms. I know it works because I'm driving Spica TC50 4 ohm speakers. Makes me wonder how much you actually listened to it.
@TheFinerThings

Lmao, but there’s no 4 Ohm rating for power by the manufacturer. Makes me wonder how little experience you have with HiFi, that you don’t know what that means.

@@TheFinerThings Yes, but it is capable as stated on p. 26 of the manual and p. 185. 4 - 16 Ω/ohms. And yeah, I've got more experience with hi-fi than you do being alive.

And how much power does it supply under a 4 ohm load? Think about why they don’t publish a 4 ohm power rating. You can figure it out, I believe in you.

@bobby1970
@bobby1970 Год назад
@@edgargomez950 I use a "Parasound model 2350". It's a true 300 watts per channel stereo power amp. I have 2 bookshelf speakers (100 watt rated for each speaker) and it does fine. It's a lot of power, so be careful of how loud you crank it. Even then, it should be fine. A little extra power is good.

So excuse me for being entertained but confused. Is this kit worth a recommendation? As a 2 channel w Bluetooth, wi-fi capacity it seems like a good option for those who want to pull source from their computer. Also Apple airplay. But how does it sound compared to their more dedicated entry PM6007 with 45 wpc rating? Thanks
@TheFinerThings
@TheFinerThings 3 года назад
This video was definitely not our best in terms of a real “review” 😅 If you’re looking for a piece where music listening is the focus, this piece COULD work for you, but it’s very speaker dependent. Speakers that need more robust power just won’t sound their best with the NR1200. The Rotel A11 Tribute would be a better option if you’re okay with giving up HDMI. For cheaper I would consider the Fosi Audio HD-A1 with a DAC, though you give up simplicity, streaming, and a remote with that. The NR1200 isn’t best at anything but it’s okay a lot of stuff.
@mica32j
@mica32j 3 года назад
Makes sense. I wasn't considering the NR1200 for any HDMI/video integration, but as a way to implement wi-fi and bluetooth. Really think this is a dressed up Denon DRA-800H, where they are demonstrating a bit of badge engineering

Is Marantz 6007 better than NR 1200 in terms of sound quality and musical performance?
@ramondelgado6778
@ramondelgado6778 2 года назад
Yes. The PM6007 is a step up in build quality that uses a toroidal transformer, much better/thicker aluminum heat sink, bigger power capacitors, resulting in MUCH better sound quality.
@bobby1970
@bobby1970 2 года назад
@@ramondelgado6778 How about the Marantz PM7000N? Is it even better than the Marantz 6007?
@ramondelgado6778
@ramondelgado6778 2 года назад
@@bobby1970 I actually own the PM7000N and yes, it is a clear step above the PM6007. When I purchased the PM7000N (took me 6 months to get it), I made the decision because I wanted an all in one unit. The PM6007 + the Bluesound Node 2i ($1,300.00) was going to cost almost $300 more than just buying the PM7000N ($1,000.00), which has a built in streamer (HEOS) + Radio tuner, and a more powerful amplifier section (bigger toroidal transformer, bigger power capacitors, bigger / thicker aluminum heat sink, and a better DAC). So, for me, since I only stream music, thought this was a no brainer. However, I could not listen to it in the shop because they were out of stock, during the Covid supply shortage. Originally I was shopping the NR1200 vs. the PM6007. The NR1200 has all of the features that I wanted but a weak amplifier section (iron core transformer, small power caps, super thin aluminum heat sink). I was pretty sure I would have to add an external amp via the L + R pre-outs, eventually. I was not impressed by how it sounded in the shop. To be fair, it was trying to drive speakers that were way too much speaker for it. But the PM6007 sounded better and had much more control over the same speakers. For sure, I would choose the PM6007 if I had to pick between those two, and honestly, I think with my speakers, the PM6007 would have been more than enough, as it is rated to handle 4-ohm speakers easily while the NR1200 is not rated at 4-ohms. Also, regarding the streamer, You don't have to spend $600 on the Bluesound. You can get the Wiim Mini for $99 on Amazon, and go optical out into the PM6007 and use the DAC in the PM6007 which is a pretty great DAC and have the same or close to the same quality as the Bluesound Node 2i. I know this because I also have a Node 2i and was curious and bought the Wiim Mini streamer and compared them using the outboard DAC in my Marantz PM7000N and there was almost no difference. The $99 Wiim Mini was all the streamer I needed. I'm actually using the Wiim Mini with my Marantz PM7000N because I prefer the streamer software over HEOS in the Marantz because it is really MUCH better. The Bluesound Node 2i is set up with another system. Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions. If you have access to Emotiva, you can get the BASX-TA1 integrated amplifier for $549, which will save you some money, and it is built with similar internals as the PM6007 which now sells for $899. How do I know this? I have the Emotiva BASX-TA100 (older version of the TA-1) and I love it! Hope this helps.

@@ramondelgado6778 Wow, that's a lot of great information, and yes, it really does help, thanks. I would like to ask you, if I decide to get the cheaper NR1200 and connect a decent external amp, would it sound anywhere close to the sound quality of the PM7000N, or at least the PM6007? My main audio source would be from a CD player connected to the system.
@ramondelgado6778
@ramondelgado6778 2 года назад
@@bobby1970 The sound quality from the NR1200 + an external amp could indeed sound better than the PM7000N. I'm kind of sad that the PM7000N does not have pre-amp outs, because it would make a great pre-amp. And you don't have to spend a lot of money to do it. You can go with the NR1200 and add an Emotiva BASX-A2 ($499) and you would have something with similar internals, just more beefy, that is also 4-ohm stable. I have that amplifier an a matching Emotiva pre-amp and I think they do sound better than the PM7000N. What kind of speakers will you be using?

I personally hate Audio Science Review, everything "sounds the same", you are attacked if you say otherwise and numbers are all that matter. Your DAC or AMP MUST not be working right if it sounds different, your ears are lying to you. I was a member and left quickly because I could not stand the users. The regulars are all parrots and morons, the good people are driven out by the regulars as soon as they say, "This sounds better than that". Numbers are sound quality 🤣.

The NR1200 sounds poor for rock/metal/pop/dance music relative to Yamaha. at its worst, it's a level above a cheap Sony from the 90s. A non-audiophile will not enjoy this unit as much as a Yamaha for the above pop music. NR1200 has features that other stereo amps lack (HDMI for example), but you would do better for music with Yamaha and (probably) Onkyo.

@@bobby1970 If you listen to metal and rock and want guitar mids more forward, I like how the ELACs work with a 3-way design: UNI-FI 2.0 UB5.2 bookshelf. A Klipsch model could also sound great but my Klipsch speakers were putting out saturated highs and mids with the AXR100. The ELAC uses a softer tweeter, so better match IMHO.
