I feel like I gotta say it, Dante Basco as Rufio was probably one of - if not the - first Filipino I saw on screen growing up, and he was the coolest fucking character ever! To this day, the level of happiness I get from seeing Rufios entrance is kind of insane 😂 I did want to point out though that there is a song called 'Rufio' where Dante does a spoken word verse, it's fantastic, and there is a line that says "And even if we die in the end, that's cool... We're kids of colour man, dying ain't nothing new" and that shit BREAKS my heart

@@acutierollsthey don't correct anything in post for this podcast. They say wrong things ALL THE TIME. It would really behoove them to have notes or an outline or something. I mean for the Gigli one there are a bunch of members of the disability community that don't like how they handled the mentally handicapped character and it's more than just a few comments with upvotes. Someone actually un subbed because they didn't address it in a subsequent episode.

Robin Williams was such a genuinely kind person. Way back in the late 80s and early 90s, I had two friends who bumped into him in random places in San Francisco. One was bicycling down Mission Street, saw him, and yelled, "Hi Robin," and he yelled back a lovely hello to her. The other asked for an autograph, and he graciously gave it to her. Both times, he was just living his ordinary life, but he took the time to acknowledge my friends. That is so cool! I wish I had bumped into him too.

When I look for things that have gone missing, I always make the announcement "Oh there you are Peter!", when I find it. My friends and I also call each other Peter all the time. Or if we're all about to pile into the car to go somewhere we'll be like "We're doing it Peters". These are general examples. We have all sorts of reasons for making these references, and I just love it. I'll have to re-watch and see if there are any other sayings we can incorporate into our day to day. The one you chose is pretty perfect.

I think kelsey was being to abstract. I think the events actually happened and the reason smee was in the real world is because he left neverland cause he decided to abandon hook and only look out for his own interests. if you remember there's a moment during the fight scene where he gathers the jewels and treasures chanting "what about smee" over and over and gets on a lifeboat and sails away. that was my interpretation growing up anyways

I'm staying up to watch this because this was one of my favorite movies growing up. But like also Rufio was so cool in general, but I was just happy also that he was Asian. This was a kids movie with one of the only positive depictions of an Asian kid and just someone that looked like me and it was great to have an Asian figure that people wanted to be. I unashamedly had a huge crush on him and in the 2nd grade ordered a novelization of Hook through scholastic book order at school because I wanted just more Rufio content. But like seriously in the 90s we had the guy who played Data in Goonies and Short Round in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom who only now came back for Everything Everywhere All At Once, Dante Basco as Rufio, and Ernie Reyes Jr in the Ninja Turtles movies and Surf Ninjas. Three people, but they made me feel like I had a place.

It's interesting to me to hear the perspective of people who were small children when this movie came out. I was 17 when this movie was released and I have an entirely different perspective because I grew up on the classic Peter Pan story. My generation got certain references like the alarm clock on Hook's psyche, we got that Tinkerbell was in love with Peter, (she was always jealous of Wendy). We also have childhood memories of Micheal Jackson acting as the Scarecrow in the film The Wiz with Diana Ross and having the most cinematic music videos of the 80s where he always played a character with dialogue, so I'm not surprised he was wanted for the role. I picked out Glenn Close as soon as I saw the film but I didn't know about George Lucas and Carrie Fisher, that's cool! Great podcast, folks!

I wish I could have sit in on this episode just because Peter Pan is my favorite book so I could point out a lot of the subtle references Hook made to not only the book but the lore behind the book. I was a full on adult when this movie came out. I was raised on the fully Disneyfied Peter Pan, and the "pick up and reset" of this movie was purely inspirational! Then there is the mental exercise of widening your focus...there are other points of view. It's a lot like "Wicked," in that respect. Just an amazing take on an old story!

I have a suggestion for the next Robin Williams film for the channel that I think is completely underrated and would be perfect for Pride month especially… “The Birdcage” with Nathan Lane, Gene Hackman, Diane Wiest, Hank Azaria and so many others. I just think it would be nice for this younger generation to know that this movie exists if they didn’t know already, and on the same level with Hook (in a sense) I want to see if you were to rewatch this film does is A) Still hold up and B) Does it stand the test of time and hell maybe they can even get Eugene to watch this one and give his honest review and maybe express his opinions on how much the drag scene has change etc etc. I am by no means ranting, I’m just saying it might be a good movie to put on the channel because everyone has different opinions and maybe rewatching it or having someone watch it for the first time would make for a great video. The hazy look is caused by a filter you put on a lens and also using smoke machines. It gets used heaps with filmmaking. It’s called Pro Mist or Black Frost filters. Most digital movies that look like film are shot digitally and then printed on film and then Rescanned digitally e.g. Dune

I just started so I'm not sure if you guys will talk about this, but something else that's incredible of this film is how it builds on the original symbolism of Peter Pan. In the play version of Peter Pan, Hook is played by the same actor that plays the father, which really drives home that from a child's perspective adults are the villains or "growing up" and losing your joy is the villain. So Peter Pan BECOMING the father is actually incredible clever. It's not just that he grows up, it's that he becomes the father, specifically. He's only 1 step away from becoming Hook.

She swallowed his hand after Peter Pan chopped it off, and liked the taste of it so much that she now follows Hook around, hoping to eat the rest of him. The croc also swallowed a clock, thus giving off a tell-tale ticking sound as she approaches." from Google. As I recall from the book, she swallows his watch with his hand, and Hook hears the ticking sound whenever the crocodile approaches. I guess I need to reread the book.
