In my opinion, as long as Insomniac keeps adding more ways to move around the city in a fun, engaging way with polished animations, as well as improved parkour and wall crawling, we'll be alright
I'm definitely of the "I don't care too much because it's just fun" camp. While playing through both of the Insomniac Spider-Man games, I'd sometimes just webswing aimlessly throughout the city because it was just fun to do.
I did the same amd then I played for so long I noticed all the flaws and feel like the stuff that is broken should be fixed. I think most of it is fixed but we’ll see!
@@The-Legend-of-P I myself was in a similar camp until i started trying out some stuff like air dodges and stuff. Moving to miles morales also helped tremendously for a bit due to the web swinging changes they’d made but i don’t really like the enemy types as much as the first games so combat feels less engaging there.
@@MahNamJeff yeah the air dodges help w/ movement and the fastest movement you can do in MM is swing low to the ground and just spam air dodge with X and swing and you end up hitting a speed cap/wall Oh and the enemy types did seem a lot worse. Idk if they did that on purpose but I think the issues is the power creep. We see Miles have the venom which is kinda busted af inMM. Like every enemy is insta knocked out and I didn’t really like it. I forced myself not to use the venom because every enemy can be taken down or stunned with a jump, ground pound or dash. Kinda took the fun outta combat for me. Also they had like 2 “new” enemies. The whip ones were fun, but the shield dude immediately got cancelled out with the Venom dash. It doesn’t seem like SM2 fixed the OP abilities but they did give us more variety! I hope they add adaptive enemies as well so the same moves we did in the beginning don’t work. Like they shield themselves from webs or stop you from dodging under their legs
Ive read about this setting theyve added in the game where the game doesnt automatically steer you so youre moving forward and rather are more affected by the sideways motion. I think that alone being a setting is gonna be amazing depending on the degree to which it's implemented Plus it shows that the physics are there, Insomniac's just been handholding us thru them slightly which i appreciate being a setting we can turn off
@@busdriverguy the handholding is more than understandable when you see the GDC video of the insomniac dev talking about the hidden stuff they do behind the scenes. The auto centring was one of the things tho that I, as someone who grew up with Ultimate Spider-Man on PS2, can see why people would like to be able to turn off
@@BTBSOUNDS yeah it looked and felt much better with actual centripetal force at play during the swing arc hopefully they bring it back at least for the steering toggle (still not sure what this feature it actually is)
i really like insomniac's swinging but it makes sense to want even more customization with how you get to swing around the city. even a change like adding a bit of quick decision making by letting the left trigger swing with ur left hand and the right trigger to swing from the right would add a ton of silly traversal mechanics and make quick turns better and more challenging swinging imo
@@kingkami1739 yea and I feel like it’s one of the features that should come back at least as an option you can toggle on an off I feel like it would make me more engaged and feel like spidey more and yea he swings from both his hand but he initially shoots his web from either his left hand or his right hand but hey it’s my opinion agree to disagree

I always loved Insomniac’s take on swinging, but I thought it needed improvement. Now, Spider-Man 2 is showing real momentum, new mechanics, and quality of life features like loop-de-loops, tight turns, and surfing on water. I appreciate finding a channel like yours, what a great Spider-Man cha-
Sheesh Insomniac Games are already turned into LITERAL insomniacs trying to give fans everything they’ve asked for and more. And now they want the swinging to be “fixed”? I think it’s great already, and with the addition of web wings, we have so much to look forward to as far as traversal goes. Why can’t the fans just be happy 😭
SORRY FOR CRITICIZING!!! 😭😭😭😭😭 I'LL MAKE SURE TO SUCK THE BALLS OF EVERY INSOMNIAC EMPLOYEE ON YOUR BEHALF!!!!!!!!!!! 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😟😟😟😟😟😟😟😟😟😟😟😟😟😭😭😭😖😖😱😱☹☹☹☹
Because there’s nothing really to be wowed about. The games isn’t that much different then the other ones. They added some stuff and there’s also things they say they’ve added they we haven’t seen yet. The game just looks like a great movie. A lot of the same mechanics we’ve already seen
Web wings are glorified gliding man. I don’t wanna play Just Cause or Arkham gliding, it’s Spider-Man. Adding mechanics that are purely for cinematic without changing the small issues is kinda annoying. Like polish what you already made, don’t add new stuff if the old stuff is still broken Ik momentum is fixed but if they only add 3 new mechanics then that’s kinda dumb
Honestly, hearing "top speed is 3x faster than ps4" was all i needed to hear to be in. I love the insomniac swinging, but it still felt a little too slow (still fine for the size of the map, but i love going fast in games)
I use the HD graphics texture pack for GameCube and spiderman 2 has legitimately kept me entertained for over 15 years. The swinging is perfection. The way you can combo into wall running jumping. A second web line. I enjoy spiderman PS4 because I know I can always go back to spiderman 2
I haven't played a new video game in like a decade but I keep watching your videos on the Spider-Man games because you always put in a great twist about something more at the end
I'm glad you mentioned _Spider-Man: Web of Shadows_ because the designers were quite confident in their web-slinging vision. There's an achievement in the game that you get for using the special web mechanic that slams you into enemies and using it repeatedly in a row, which I got without knowing it existed because the slinging mechanic was so fun. Anyway, workers together strong! Strike for your rights!
IMO a little yeah. It would be cool to have a little more physics stuff like: - Make momentum transfer properly if falling from tall heights - Make you crash if you swing too close to the floor
My main big problem is the magnetic force field that forces Spider-Man not to touch the floor, even if there is no fall damage, at least let him run on the floor that would look so cool…and maybe climb his own web (he does it in mods)
if there’s one thing i think needs fixing, it’s the way web swinging and on-foot traversal flow together. when you go from swinging to simply running on the ground, it feels like the momentum you had is being completely interrupted, so i hope that’s fixed to make traversal much smoother. also wall traversal definitely needs improvement since it feels very restrictive at the moment
You can choose what building you want to swing from in Miles & Spiderman 2018….. your web shoots to the nearest building so just take Peter near the closest building and that’s the one he will swing from!! But I would just like for them to add vibration for the high speeds while gliding and diving, also add resistance and vibration to the triggers so we can really feel the weight and add that immersion for swinging. Other than that I think it’s great!!
No, it doesn’t need fixing, but as someone that played Web of Shadows for the first time after playing the ps4 game, I can say with confidence that swinging in that game feels a lot more fun to me. Insoniacs is still good and I enjoy playing around with it, but I would prefer if they moved towards a more web of shadows type of design for swinging. Of course, that’s only a small part of a bigger game, and the swinging doesn’t “need” to be fixed when it’s fun enough and the rest of the game is also amazingly made. It’s just a preference
I saw a comment a while ago that suggested the web slinging should take an approach similar to the Tony Hawk skater games Essentially skating by itself was easy but there was a giant skill ceiling that could be explored by using tricks and gaining speed while still trying to keep up the combo meter and not wipe out. So something similar with web slinging could be attempted where it would have deeper mechanics to really test how well the user is able to keep momentum instead of the training wheels feel that the game have currently. I’m a fan of the web slinging in miles morales especially but I thought this was an interesting concept brought about.
this, this is what I've been saying, Spider-man's webswinging is essentially like the super-hero version of skateboarding, you summed it up with having a high skill ceiling that's actually fun to explore and master, it just adds that variety to the movement, not sure why some people shun the idea acting like new players couldn't get into it either way, Insomniac's sequel is shaping up to look fun as hell, i'm all for their choices so far
i think the best way to “fix” insomniacs swinging is to at least give wall running its own button, and put things like touching the ground while swinging into the game as baked in animations for if your swing reaches a certain low point
If the swinging felt just a little less floaty and a little more swingy (like proper pendulum physics) and allowed you to gain speed easier, then it woulf be perfect
The problem stems from the fact that the web swinging is very automated and you can't go faster like in Spider-man 2, not to mention the fun of web swinging in old Spider-man games comes from how dangerous it can be to swing at fast speeds and being high up. When you fall and hit the ground, that's game over or either you take damage from a tall height. Web Swinging in older Spider-man games felt like a sport of some sort with the racing challenges and the specific tricks you had to pull off in order to get a gold rank.
I mean, i think it would be handy to choose which direction the web goes. Like if youre tilting the thumbstick to the left then the web attaches to a building towards the left. If you tilt towards the right then it goes to the right. That way when youre swinging around a building it grabs on to the one you would naturally wanna swing towards/off of to help keep your momentum. I dont think this would add an incredible amount but just that much more control would help enough to help you get across the city in your own way. It could make chases a little more fun and a little bit less annoying.
Hey man, appreciate the AI section at the end. That's an actual real issue and fear that even people I know have, and knowing Insomniac and their good working practice, I know they'll do the right thing.
You remind me of RyeToast. The cadence, similar background, the full in-depth videos, the sign in the background, the style and comedy into ads, etc. Haha 😆 I digg your vids man!
For me after playing Spider-Man 2 and hitting the ground a lot while swinging, I can see why insomniac added some of the floaty- feeling web swinging where u can’t really touch the ground and end your swing streak. I feel like we just need a balance of being able to dive, gain speed, and swing super fast while not easily being able to swing straight into the ground and end your swing I also want to sling 2 webs at once that’s something I feel like was such a downgrade since 2004
"Unregulated AI has zero place in big-budget entertainment." Thank you. I've been trying to put this thought into words for so long. I believe that AI has a place in the creative process, especially for smaller creators like myself to whom AI offers a lot of new avenues for producing art. But major groups need to be held accountable to make sure they use it ethically. AI can do a lot of harm if not properly regulated, so we need to make sure that doesn't happen and that it's used properly.
I couldn't care less for the safe fails mechanics tbh. I'd like them to be addressed, sure. But with the web wings, Sling shot mechanic and much more new improvements I am more than pleased.
If I had to change the way web swinging works in the game, then I would make the right thumbstick act as Spider-Man's eyes. The reason for this is that the player will have to look at where the web connects to a building when moving around the city
web swinging is the actual act of swinging, like how the words are, whereas web SLINGING is the general idea of shooting webs. he slings webs at bad guys when he webs them up. he slings webs when he catches a helicopter that’s falling from the sky, he slings a web when he’s about to swing off it, and then he swings from his webs, ie slinging webs is just the action of shooting webs, where as swinging is swinging
I will say there should be a setting for the swinging, just like in some games, most recently SF6, where there's the normal web-swinging, and then if you change the setting it's advanced so you have to aim, etc.
I think they should add some stuff to allow the player to be even more flashy while web-swinging while keeping the fundamentals the same. Imagine if certain structures would allow you to do a Mortal-Kombat-esqe series of button inputs that initiates a cool scripted parkour sequence through a small area, or you apply that principle to when you start fighting a crime, allowing you to do some kind of crazy loop-de-loop swing kick thing that takes out a thug before the regular combat begins (something like how Spider-Man saves the Fisk guy while kicking the Demon in the construction site mission in the 2018 game, except you can do it anywhere with the right input). None of it is necessary, but it rewards skilled players by having Spidey reflect those skills.
My only problem with this swinging was back in the day when people acted like it was more realistic than Spiderman 2 swinging despite it.. not being so. Which isn't a problem with the swinging itself, but damn, some peeps were annoying lol
I love the swinging from the first two games. I think Miles improved on the swinging so much because I think the first games animations were a little bit stiff. However Miles swinging animations are way better and more stylish. It looks like Marvels Spider-Man 2 will be even better in terms of web swinging combat and if Miles is in the game a lot story.
Every night that me and my friends talk on discord when i want to actually focus on the conversation i tend to open up miles morales and just swing around, its so comforting and soothing to do so
I honestly feel like its kind of both where there def can be some improvements (people forget the jump in web swinging that was made from 2018-miles morales), but I also genuinely feel that people don't want insomniac to have their own style of doing things. Like everyone just wants insomniac to be the spider-man games of the past. Like they want everything to be done exactly like web of shadows, or classic spider-man 2. People act like there's no creative freedom in insomniac spider-man's version, but if you've seen some of the vids people have posted about the web swinging, and there gameplays of it, you can def tell thats not true.
Not true, people love what insomniac has done for their system, it’s just that there is a core thing missing that has nothing to do with older games and everything to do with what is the best mechanic that feels right.
@@hopefullyanonymous3466 no, most people love insomniacs system, but there’s is objectively a very loud group of people that hate the system and basically want them to rework the whole thing
I love the web swinging in the first game however, the one thing that I wanted was more precise turns to control which way you were going in mid air. I was just struggling with the taskmaster challenges.
People who want insomniacs version to be able to physically touch the ground while swinging and do certain things, don't realize that they would have to change and rework the entire web swinging mechanics system which is just dumb and is not happening since, I would fight anybody on this, is already the best web-swinging system we got right now💀People also don't realize insomniacs version cant get so close to the ground because he does have animations while he's swinging. Every version that let you get close to the ground before just straight up didn't. Sure they might have had tricks, but in classic Spider-man 2 he didn't have "web swinging animations," he just did the same thing over and over again.
You do understand that doesn't actually contradict what he said, right? It's possible to not care and also make the video, which is clearly the case because that's what he did
The best middle ground for Insomniac to please both casual and veteran fans is to implement 2 swinging modes. The Classic for their hand-holdy animation based swinging for the casuals, and Advanced for a more physics based web swinging. If Spiderman 3 takes another 5 years they have enough time to implement the Physics heavy swinging if they will. This will be more possible if they use new engine that emphasizes physics though.
This aint a Spider-Man channel. Its a "whatever troyoboyo wants to talk about" channel, and that thing he wants to talk about is mostly about Spider-Man.
“Fix” is such a strong word. Built-upon. The structure is there. Just add stuff. Like the ability to climb web lines, run along walls while holding a web-line and/or interact with cars or the ground if you swing too low (maybe with a well-timed tap of Square AKA the trick button?), charge your jump off a web-swing. All these things were incorporated into games almost 20 years ago. There’s no reason they should be omitted from a game releasing 3 console generations later 🤷🏻♂️
I would welcome these changes, honestly This is probably gonna be what gets the thousand swords pointed at me, but the swinging in this game has always been like the climbing in Assasain's Creed where you just press a button and move the joystick forward. So game mechanics that give the player more agency might be more engaging
I think they just need to have a toggle to turn off the hand holding and let people truly master it. Running if swinging too close to the ground and building crashing if youre too fast would also be a welcome addition for me. Alot like Mario Kart on the switch, where you can turn off the game trying to keep you in the center.
more interaction with the world and swing like running on the ground like spider verse and yes advanced swinging as an option (not add an fall damage option bc that’s not advanced that’s putting a bandage but it’s a start) but it’s all I have to say
@@The-Legend-of-Phigh speed with risks. The new feature with the hard turn should be be rewarded with the speed but if you choose the wrong building and do it then splat against the wall
I just think they gotta expand it, let us do some crazy shit that Spider-Man can do and my only real problem is that the swinging is too automated and most of the time I could play it with one hand
I think the web swinging is really fun but my only critisism is I wish it was a bit faster so hearing that the speed is trippled in the new game is definitely enough for me, also i do like the idea of fall damage, it could be fun to play around with the risk of messing up.
It doesnt need "fixing" there just needs to be a better mechanics for people that like complicated gameplay. My 6 year old niece is great at webswinging. And thats cool. But thats not how easy I want it to be. But that's just me.
I personally think insomniacs web swing is the best I’d much rather have the cinematic, fluid swinging then the hard to learn and off looking swinging from Spider-man 2 (2002)
I definitely think the next game should include a similar setting to what Spider-Man 2 (2004) did with the swinging: have an “easy swinging” mode and a “realistic swinging.” Have the easy mode be what it is now, and have the realistic mode be more physics based, to the point where you literally can’t move mid-air unless you have an attached web to pull yourself from. On top of this, I think what would make Insomniac’s traversal the most satisfying for players like me who want a more intrinsic traversal experience would be to bring in the 360 degree wall-running, vertical wall-sliding, vertical web-zip, and wall-jumping from Web of Shadows. To this day, no Spider-Man game has come close to the amount of player expression as WoS had by simply having all of these elements built into the game. For example, you could grab onto a pole mid-air and spin on it to shoot out and gain speed, then wall-run to maintain that momentum and jump off the wall into another one and by holding jump as you land onto the wall you can re-direct your next jump in whichever direction you push the stick. Wall-sliding combined with wall web-zips gave you substantial vertical boost while climbing buildings, and I wish that could come back too. Overall, if Insomniac are able to add most of if not all of WoS’s traversal mechanics, maybe even build upon them further, their next Spider-Man game could be THE Spider-Man game of all time, at least in terms of traversal.
Like the best AC parkour, it's flashy but boring when doing it casually. It requires next to no thought to get to point A to be. Now, when you do get a little bit more in-depth, it does get a little bit more fun. But also, why would you other than because you can. Honestly, all I want it a climb button. That's it. That's the bare minimum thing I want. That added addition would make it fun for me. But I do want the way it is to be optional. Let me toggle the auto climb on or off in the options menu
The only thing I want from this game is a little animation where, if you swing close enough to the roof of a car, Spider-Man does that thing where he sort of runs along the roof while still holding onto the web line. It’s one of my favorite Spider-Man things and if neither of the Spider-Mans do it, I will not be buying the game.
I saw a RU-vid short that said that Spidey PS4’s swinging has a very low skill floor (pressing r2 and x to easily get around) but a very high skill ceiling (using the different maneuvers and tactics to build up and maintain speed). I suggest it to Troyo and anyone else who may see this :)
The skill ceiling is not high at all. It’s at an average level. You can barely increase your max momentum. You have to abuse the system to get glitch speed or faster speed in general
Insomniac recently said along the lines that there is a webswinging assist that is automatically set to 10 which is what it was in the past 2 games and you can turn it down to make it harder so... maybe they did "fix"/improve it
I personally feel that web slinging is the act shooting a web, web swinging is the act of. . . swinging. Spiderman web slung from one building to the other. Spiderman is web swinging to the other building.
It doesn't need fixing, it needs improvement and physics. Those are it. "Oh but I'm a casual and don't want difficulty" then just make 2 different modes. 'Spider-Man 2' (2004) did it 20 years ago on the PS2, so it is possible. I know games are waaay different to make nowadays, but that doesn't mean it's pointless. People will enjoy these games for what they are, good experiences, but eventually it'll be just about its looks, because there isn't an actual gameplay where you're in control. Seriously, the only time I've ever seen people change up the gameplay is when they don't know what they're doing and missing basic moves, which is what players need: more opportunities to miss.
Maybe they'll drop a VR version, use the controllers. They know people want it, they have the ability, they need to sell VR 2's. I think it could happen.
The only thing I specifically WANT Insomniac to add is easy swinging, normal swinging (what we have now), and advanced swinging which makes you release the web lines manually adds fall damage etc
Some people who got invited to play the demo actually confirmed that there will be a fall damage feature that you can turn on or off. So that’s a plus for sure in making the swinging more “advanced” because you have to be more cautious of how you swing and all
@@mdeezqwe yeah right now it really is on easy you're totally right, but i meant to say that maybe more changes have been made to improve the swinging, changes that we are still not aware of right now. But its all speculations from my part. They might have said fuck it and made no real impact or change to make it more demanding to swing.
@@idokuu3627I’m skeptical for both. They coulda made it a big fuck you and changed almost nothing except animations, few mechanics like web wings (glorified gliding) and momentum change. If that’s ALL they changed I’ll be kinda upset.
Imho, yes it does. I have always felt since 2018 that it feels too slow and too easy. The Spider-Man game with the best web swinging is Spider-Man 2 (2004). I hope they make web swinging faster and allow you to touch the ground while swinging
[For context, I posted this on Amazing Lucas' vid.] Lucas, Here's my guess before the game releases next month. I think that once you play it and beat the story, etc. Then it's time for your full review... I think what's gonna happen is that you're gonna say that you were THOROUGHLY impressed at what Insom added and did wit the game. You're also gonna say that you've had waaaay more fun than you initially thought, but that it's styll jus shy of being up there wit GOTY, unfortunately. I could be wrong. Albeit, I jus have a gut feeling that's what's gonna happen. (Btw, jus a sidenote I wanted to touch on. Insom, in a recent interview at that Spider-man 2 event... Said that they wanted to do the web wings in the first game - before they even heard that the fans wanted it. They were wanting to really do them, but sadly had to leave the web wings on the cutting room floor for the sequel, cuz they hadn't mastered the swinging yet. Hence, this was their first attempt at a Spidey game ever. They said they wanted to nail one thing first and have that down pact, instead of giving us web swinging and web wings in the first game, but both were a half-job. I really appreciate that mindset.👍🏾 Glad they learned a lot after Spider-man 1 & Miles Morales, that now in the sequel when they did get to finally tackle the web wings, they could really buckle down and focus on making them the best they could and making the transition between the two traversal systems seemless.)
I think it’d be cool to see more versatility in the web tricks and the small mechanics they’ve talked about upgraded sound good enough for me. New animations would’ve been nice but the old ones aren’t broken by any means.
The only bad thing about insomniacs swinging is that little barrier when your to close to the floor. Let me get hit by a car or swing to low for fall damage cause my angle is bad
I like the web swinging but it does get a tad boring. I would add in a momentum system meter where if you hold the trigger you'll swing at a normal easy pace but if you wait and time it, the meter builds and you can hit a sweet spot for extra speed. This would be great in chase sequences too. I'd also add that the reticle that aims where your web attaches too can be moved. So holding r2 would be automatic but if you waited, moved the reticle to a different building, it could increase your speed or decrease it if you picked a bad spot or if you wanted to stop and hang. The height of the building could be a factor too. If you shoot a web to a building at eye level, you could pull yourself in like a missile. Buildings that are above you could make your downward dip longer and closer to the ground but if you time it right you'll shoot back into the air. This could all be done with same r2 swinging but giving the player the freedom to time their swings and that effects what spider-man does.
The TASM tie in game assigned swinging from your left or right hands to the left and right triggers. A system like that for an alternative control scheme would be neat.
