I have been trying to find out if it is washable? or will the tape just end up peeling off? Im wanting to do this only with a photo onto a coffee cup , but want it to be washable (Hand wash they don't own a dish washer) for my Boyfriends mom for Valentines Day But I can't find any where that says if they're washable after doing this
When creating the font / typing it up, even if you are using a bold font make sure to hit the Bold letter, always use black, then when you hit print be sure to go into your printer settings, go to photo paper even if you're using the plain paper, hit the best quality button instead of the normal or draft button then print it. Use hot water, let it sit in there for 10 to 15 minutes. You are label will come out looking like it is supposed to. It took me a very long time of trial and error, lots of paper and ink to figure this out.
Makes sense because a laser printer bakes the toner onto the paper. It's an electrostatic process. Any liquid based ink would be absorbed by the paper. If you've ever stored laser printed sheets in clear plastic sleeves and left them alone for months or years, the toners sticks to the clear sheets to the point where it's almost peeled from the paper. This happened to me a lot when I worked at a place where we did a lot of Powerpoint slides and kept them in clear plastic sleeves.
Thank you, Annie, for taking the time to test the video. I saw it this morning and was wondering if I needed to find my laser printer and unpack it. Now I know😁
hi guys i found this to work with inkjets, first stick some scotch tape to a A4 paper, then put it into a inkjet printer and print, the lettering would have been printed on the scotch tape now, without disturbing the print take another piece of scotch tape and stick it on the printed scotch tape rub it nicely so the ink transfers, after that just peel it off gently the lettering would have transferred to the sticky part of the scotch tape.
Interesting. 🤔 I thought you was gonna say to rub the paper off the back, with the sandwiched tape ontop. I guess you have to leave it to dry as well I assume, then peel? Idk. But it's an idea. 👍🏾
Thank you for being fun and honest !! I ❤️wanted it to work , really Wanted to do this for few years. Always says laser printer. Well not buying one lol thx again 👍🏼
Yes! Just like everyone is saying you need to soak it more because otherwise, you will be pulling off the ink, just like in your video. It should come off very easily otherwise wait a bit longer and then try again, the softer the better. Once the paper dissolves in the water, very gently, then you can get the paper off the black writing and hopefully it won't pull off any black. Yay!!! Then you'll have a perfectly DARK sticker to place on your jar.
I read some other sources on this idea and they recommend you soak it for 5-6 minutes before trying to remove the paper. I wonder if that would help the paper release easier without taking the ink along with it?
In one video, different than the Facebook video she mentioned placing several labels on the same page and bringing your file to a copy shop or office supply store and have them print it up on their Laser Printer for about 10 cents a page. I prefer this idea to trying to accurately write over the image with a Sharpie. I've found with hand washing, or even just wiping down with a cloth Sharpie ink disappears quickly over time. For those of you who prefer a more permanent solution there's a washable Mod Podge you can either coat the tape along with its edges (not sure if they wouldn't start to curl with this step) or skip the packing tape altogether and apply in a decoupage manner. There are other ways to transfer Laser printed images but other than ironing and Mod Podge, I'm not sure what they are. It does have to be Laser, because the ink is actually laser fused that's what makes it work.
I was watching another video on RU-vid and he left it in the water for 5-6 minutes and his came out really dark. He also put it back in the water when it started to get to get too dry. Also, I think it has to do with the saturation of the paper, it has to be really wet in order to peel of easily, or else you have to rub a lot harder to get it off and you rub ink with it. Just a thought.
Was able to do this, but I did use a laser printer. One recommendation if you don’t have one at home is call your local library and ask if they use one and just make several on one sheet there.
folks the first easiest way is going to staples office supply and buying transparent shipping adress labels...they come in printabel clear sheets so you can add any graphics or text you want even pictures and your not limited size wise by a strip of tape...plus the quality is awsome as you dont have to deal with water or fading or none of that ...picture printing on sticker paper except this stuff is clear so you can put it on glass items and so fourth and its only 8 bucks a pack...
I took the paper off outside the water and it's clear as possible. I think because you take the paper off in the water it washes off. It worked great for me.
if u want to do this project without getting a new printer or using a sharpie you can always print out what you want to use or save it to a flash drive and go to kinkos or fedex stores and print it out there its very cheap to make copies and I've learned this because I have done a lot of picture transfers onto wood. so I will be trying this after a run to the FedEx store this week lol
Hi Annie, I seem to have the same problem as you do, my first atempt came out so light I could hardly read it. My second atempt I used boiling water for just uner 1min and it came out a lot better, still not the same as the FB video...
Im glad you made this vid, i did a test yesterday and wasted lots of papers, tape and ink. I should have watched your vid before getting excited for nothing...
After watching your review I made sure to use a laser printer. It definetely works with the laser printer. Only issue I had was no matter how much I cleaned the tape off, it was still cloudy.
Watch the video on my channel where I explain and show how to do this exactly with a logo I made for my guitar headstock. I think it will help to make sense.
I actually saw your fb post and I was going to try it and I said to myself well I'll just wait until Annie makes a video and save my time ha ha... I agree using it as a stencil looks good so even if it didn't work as the Facebook video showed it's still something useful to know lol
Lol, a bit late to comment, but what i did is i just used regular paper ( i only had lined but it didnt ruin it at all) and a ball point pen, i followed the wrest of the steps and it worked really well, no fade ect however the pen did stain the jar i used but that doesn't bother me at all. hope that helps.
I'm so glad you did this video. I saw the same Facebook post and was skeptical. I do have a laser printer so it will be on my to do list. Thanks for sharing from a fellow chicken scratch handwriter. Lol
Laser Printer works Great same steps. Inkjet not so much just like her Work had an laser and worked great I had fun making labels. i have an inkjet at home failed I was so sad.
Here is a Great TIP. Don't have a laser printer? Use inkjet printer BUT pass the paper through the printer and Print about 3 or 4 times. As dark or as colourful as you like. It works fine.
I used Packing tape, Sticker Printing Paper, I have a Canon printer and I left it in the warm water for about 4-5 mins then leave it to dry side of bowl it totally works
But it DOES work. I just did it. Ink jet printer. But the water MUST be warm. My 5th one didn't work and I was like, hey, whaa? But the water had cooled. So... warm water, the paper came off on its own, floating in the bowl, after less than 2 minutes.
Mine is super dark. You should rub outside of the water after a minute. I usually let the tape sit on the paper for a while before putting it in water.
I did this and it worked just fine because I find when I press lightly, the ink tranfered onto the tape and no ink was lefted on the paper and I don't even have a laser printer
Thks for your honest tutorial! I had also had the misfortune of believing another video, even though I used warm water, waited 3 minutes. The result was very faint!
so another way if you dont even have a printer trace the lettering on your laptop or device, the cut it smaller and stick tape on the paper from the inside of the glass and just trace with the sharpie
Why do the sharpie that way? You could have just put the print out in a jar, traced the print out on the outside of the jar, and put tape on top of that to protect it...
I'm curious.......I wonder if you heated it for a few minutes with a warm iron before putting it in the water if it would help the ink transfer better to the tape?
My daughter and I just tried this and we can not get the ink to stay on the tape. I used an Epson Artisan 710 printer. Do you have to use an ink jet printer?
I haven't tried this yet but I think speed is the magic variable. you want to get the tape over it as soon as possible when it comes off the printer, before the ink has a chance to fully dry and sink into the paper rather than the tape.
