Calling a 16 year old kid ‘naive’ after watching him score an absolute worldie, beat France, and make it to a Euro final is one of the most jealous things I’ve ever heard.
They did not call him naive. Craig said that he plays with “the naïveté of youth”. This is a phrase which means that the kid is so young that he is unaware of the pressure that would hinder older players. Because of this he feels free to express himself in the most skillful, beautiful way without a care in the world. Every member of this panel has nothing but the highest praise for the kid. Why are you all so under educated?
I don't think they meant it that way, I think it was more of a "this kid doesn't have the usual 'dear in headlights' mentality on the big stage, he attempts goals from 30 feet down 0-1 in a semi final" Like how most older players know the magnitude of the match so they try to get the best possible shot on goal, while Yamal at least seems to not care or doesn't know that yet. But naive is definitely the wrong word to use
Trust me, Lamine will be competing for the Ballon d'Or in the next 2, 3 years..He might potentially become the youngest Ballon d'Or winner, he's something else 💙❤️🔥🪄
@@diligenceeke3023 vinicius leaves much to be desired with brazil. He played very poorly with them and has like 6 goals when at the same age neymar had over 40+
That is if he continues to play like this and win major club and country trophies. I hoping injuries and pride don't stiffen his development. He's just super❤
Yamal isnt naive. Obv, he brings in his teenage flare at club level, but in this tournament, he has shown his incredible maturity. Spain are blessed to have him.
@@lo5182 they also fight with police and abuse everyone It was all over the news in 2021 If they would have won we would have seen British military attacking the EU.
I know. English jealousy because they have lazy, untalented players playing for working class fans who get their education from the writing on pub toilet walls.
Except if you watch the show you will hear Craig say “the naïveté of youth”. Which means he plays the game without a care in the world and no thought of pressure because of his youth. As a result all his skill and talent are on full display. The panel were nothing but complimentary of Lamal.
@@user-sz2ut4od6sI wouldn't bother with most of the ESPN FC commenters. They read the clickbait title and play white knights and go off on their own tangents. Look at the likes pulled by the most stupid comments. You can't reason with that.
@@user-sz2ut4od6s I should have specified I was talking to the Spanish speakers who were reacting. (You can see my answer to a poster.) I know what Craig meant. (In Spanish, la inocencia de la juventud.)
Is Yamal naive!?! Are you F’ing kidding me. The passes he was making and his IQ in defense was at a level of someone who has 100 caps! Adrenaline helps goe the first 20 minutes of a game and then you settle into your highest level of training and skill. Yamal is in complete control of his game and will be one of the best player in the world in 5-6 years.
@@crimnvL ohhh, you used obtuse: must be a very intelligent person here. Especially when discussing a comment about soccer… opposed to something important. I better do my best to match your verbosity. Or… did you just get a word of the day calendar and desperately wanted to use obtuse… in a RU-vid comment… talking about a player managing nerves. Thats ironic right!? I’m not that smart. Anyways, enough making fun of you. You honestly think he is Naive to the pressure!? He was almost in tears after he scored. So perhaps it isn’t me being obtuse as you so articulately got wrong, but he fully understands the pressure and he is rising above the pressure nonetheless. He plays at Barcelona. One of the worse teams to play for if you are a player unable to manage their nerves. Griezman, Dembele, Coutinho, Paulinha, and so many other players failed due to managing the pressure they expect from their players! You can’t play a season on adolescent nerves or naivety. You can’t play a season consistently performing at his level due to being an ignorant yute to quote Breakfast Club. McManaman said more or less the same thing. I was responding to the thumbnail as well understanding quite well what it meant. But hey, the one thing you can do is cross “obtuse” off your list of words you got into a conversation. Good on you.
@@nitinpandey3616 Yamal responded to what Rabiot said before the match. Hence the “Habla Ahora” comment into the camera by Yamal when they won. He was responding to the “he has to do more in this tournament” and “we are going to make things hard for him”. I doubt Yamal was responding to the naive comment. And they discussed this based in the X post and the panel essentially said “maybe, but he is absolutely world class and understands the position he is in”… exactly what I am saying and why I commented what I did.
Naivety??? What's that?? The kid is insanely brilliant..His ball control, dribbling skills, playmaking skills, decision making and curlings are incredible..The kid is something else, Generational talent 🪄
Thank you, that goal was not the result of naivety, it was high level iq. This possession ball philosophy has crippled the dynamism of attacking football to the point where goals like this are wrongly understood as the result of "naivety." Couldn't be further from it. All skill, no luck in that goal.
Ousmane Dembele is 27 years old, yet every time I watch him play, he’s playing as if he’s a kid playing a pickup game and he’s a professional footballer. How much longer are we gonna continue to give Dembele excuses when it’s been the exact same story for him at both club and international level and the guy isn’t even getting injured anymore and he still plays like a League Two player outside of a couple of dribbles. When it comes to dribbling past other defenders 1v1 and what he does on the ball, that part makes him a good winger, but when it comes to his end product like his finishing or final ball, it’s absolutely shocking and as much as people like to say “leave him alone, it’s not just about scoring”, you’re not wrong on that as goals can’t be the only metric to determine how good a winger is, but you’re an attacker that can use both feet and you don’t know how to finish. You need to have some statistical output as he seems to be a player looking for highlights. Apart from a couple of assists, he has never scored a goal in a major tournament for France and since the 2022 World Cup, he has only 1 goal for his country and that was during their whopping 14-0 win against a lower ranked country and for someone who’s supposed to be an elite winger that’s unacceptable and he doesn’t look like a player who’s good enough to be starting for the national team and he would’ve been benched if Kingsley Coman was fully healthy and didn’t struggle with injuries once again. Look at what Lamine Yamal did today, he’s only 16 years old and sure he has all the skill in his locker and has an great highlight reel that I’ve watched many times, at least he was able to score a goal from outside of the box when his team was down by a goal and that’s called being a difference maker and doing something productive in the final third meanwhile Dembele sucks at finishing and doesn’t know when to make the right pass or shot. At the EUROs, he had 0 goals and 0 assists, I mean how are you expected to produce meaningful output in attack when your team only scored 1 goal from open play.
I read it, I absolutely agree with you, I mean it’s shocking I do not know what coaches see in this guy, you talk about the good things about him but those dribbling to it’s nothing because it comes to nothing when he does it, every single time I see him play I know for a fact that anyone can be a footballer once they are fast
This is a major defeat for Florentino Perez and Real Madrid who have ignored Spanish born for foreigners in their squad . The national team has exposed how dumb Real Madrid hierarchy and fans are
What i liked about Yamal is his movements with out ball and defending, he tracks back n gets yellocard today. This is amazing for a 16 year old!!! The passes, crosses and dribbling is on another level.
Respectfully, Lamine is anything but naive. His response to Rabiot s trash talk was"Move on silence, speak only to say checkmate". Then he made Rabiot look like a fool when he scored his worldie😂
My biggest worry is how Barcelona and Spain has managed these young talented players. If you remember Ansu Fati, Pedri and Gavi. These players have suffered injuries at a very young age that they have been unable to shake off.
@@didulaamarasinghe5173ansu Fati was actually injured by a nasty tackle. That’s how it started and he hasn’t fully recovered since. Pedri and Gavi were overplayed by both Spain and Barca
Exactly, even yesterday they (William and Yemal should have been off after 70th minutes) that's how to manage them. Depending on them is a failure for both club and country. Just as Fati Ped and Gavi
“The naïveté of youth”. This means he plays with a blissful innocence that can only come from the young. A lack of awareness of pressure that normally hinder older players. And, according to the panel, who have given the kid nothing but the highest praise possible, it was just the most beautiful thing to see. Educate yourself.
What Yamal has done is simply brilliant. However, I do have a suggestion for him. When the game ended, Lamine Yamal said, "Parla Ara," which in Catalan means "Speak now." This is a rebuke to Adrian Rabiot's comment. But those experienced players around him and the coach should tell him not to get these comments into his head. People and opponents can say many things, but he should play without making revenge comments. He has a great future ahead. I wish him more success.
I understand what you are saying but for some of the all time greats these comments and rivalries fuel them to perform even better. Michael Jordan ( maybe you don’t know the NBA) was known to absolutely feed off the negative comments of his opponents. Same with Tom Brady, C. Ronaldo even Messi at the last World Cup. It’s part of their DNA and it certainly should not be contained. Lamine Yamal is on the path to being an all time great player. He already has the skill and the mentality at his young age and the only thing now that can stop him is a loss of form or desire due to injury or outside distractions like fame, money and women.
Spain seems to have some really good leaders in Carvajal, Navas, Morata. I think they will remind him to stay humble. If not, it’ll surely happen at Barcelona
Did you even watch the video? This panel has had nothing but the highest praise for Yamal. Not a single criticism. Why do you keyboard warriors think it’s cool to lie about ESPN’s shows? Is it because you’ve seen others do it so you join in to get likes? That’s pathetic.
Despite recently signing a new contract 18 months ago, I wouldn’t be surprised if Didier Deschamps decides to step down as the manager of the France national team after the EUROs. He has been their manager since 2012 which is for 12 years and the longevity and success that he’s had in major tournaments has been absolutely remarkable. I mean after the mess that happened in the 2010 World Cup where some players were sent home and there was a dysfunction surrounding their squad, who would’ve thought that 8 years later, they would become world champions again combined with the fact that there was a period where he took them to 3 finals in the last 4 major tournaments from 2016-2022 and while they didn’t always win as they lost the EURO final in 2016 and World Cup final in 2022, at least he’s managed to lead them to either the semifinals or final and at times they haven’t always been the best team. He has been criticized for his conservative approach and how he sets his team up to not lose the game rather than play on the front foot since they’re known for being a disciplined team defensively and it worked for the most part at the EUROs where their solid defense made up for their lack of actual goals from open play and they finally scored a goal from open play, but this time against Spain, their luck ran out once and for all. In my opinion, yes he led them to the semifinals and they had to go up against a very good team, with the way that they play under him, it’s not always going to be sustainable. You can’t expect yourself to defend for 90 minutes hit on the counter attack and then boom give the ball to Kylian Mbappe, let Antoine Griezmann impact the game and everyone get out of the way because this worked for France in previous tournaments, but when you have 2 of your most reliable players out of form, they don’t have any ideas in attack. Ousmane Dembele plays like a player who’s looking for highlights rather than someone who is trying to score, Olivier Giroud barely plays anymore and his time with the national team looks to be over, Marcus Thuram isn’t good enough to be their starting striker as he hasn’t translated his club form when he plays for his country, how do you expect yourself to actually score goals from open play when you don’t have a lot of creativity in midfield despite having so many talented midfielders and tactically speaking, Zidane would be a better manager than him on paper and he would be suited to international football and with him out of a job if Deschamps decides to leave he would be the perfect replacement and he has a good resume as well despite not managing a team in over 3 years. As great as he’s been for the national team, you don’t expect him to be their manager forever no offense. the French federation won’t sack Deschamps as the only way he would leave is if he goes into their office and tells them that he would want to step down.
What distinguished messi from others is his simplicity, he was never the type of ronaldo to throw it in your face like a child and i dont want yamal to do the same. Let success talk, not you.
Asking this of Yamal is extremely vague. He has shown up to a major tournament and handled his business and now his team are in the final. If anything it demonstrates maturity and talent more than naiveté.
@AsianGentleman Yet another troll with zero perspective. Mbappe has 48 goals and 35 assists in 84 matches for France along with a World Cup, another World Cup final hat trick, and has 288 goals and 126 assists in 373 club career matches. Wake up and stop being a troll.
I remember watching his in l LA Liga promes tournament as an 8 or 10 year old he was fantastic along with Kluivet jr whom i wonder where he is and how much he's grown Never expected Lamine would make top level that quick I'm talking about he was this little in 2017-20😅
Dan brought up a point about Deschamp tactical flaws and they all ignored it. Mbappe playing the role in the middle would have kept in a more dangerous role regardless of how Spain decided to defend him. They have plenty of guys who can go 1v1 on the wings. Otherwise he should have started Greizmann.
If you look at the question, I don’t think they mean naive as a player, just in the sense that he’s a young kid who hasn’t had to deal with adult worries.
Yamal is the future of soccer.. my lil cousins only watch soccer games when he plays.. great for soccer! More and more people are watching it cuz of players like him
Has that innate touch like pirlo playing on wing. Composure and youthful exuberance like messi when he came on scene at 17 its so refreshing. That goal reminded me of lios against Brazil but he was running at pace yamal just pulled that out if air. Incredible gueller goal against Georgia would be goal of tournament modt years but thats just as good as it gets. The English on it side and top spin you have that or you don't!!
Craig said “the naïveté of youth”. It means being so young that he feels no pressure to perform. As a result his natural talent and skills are on full display, with an innocence that is beautiful to watch. And he does it without a care in the world. Listen again to the whole show and see if you hear anything except the absolute highest praise from everyone on the panel for Lamal.
my only frustration with lamine is the hunger, i hardly see him running for the ball when crosses are sent in the box or even on counter attacks, maybe with time, he will learn. i feel he should train with neymar during the offseason
The group are not responsible for the title. The production crew is. In the show Craig said “the naïveté of youth”. This means Lamal is not hindered by pressure because of his youth and innocence. As a result what you see is a display of skill, and talent that is beautiful to see. Every single one of the panel had nothing but the absolutely highest praise for the kid. Not a single word of criticism.
@abdiqadirahmed1524 You need to wake up and stop blindly following ESPN FC clickbait BS. Actually watch Rabiot’s entire interview. Because he was very complimentary of Yamal. ESPN FC took his words out of context for “controversary” so people like you get irate and react like you did. Congrats on falling for their BS.
@Photosoflife You think Lamin would react the way he did if it was a pure complement. After the game Lamin said Speak Now says a lot if you actually read between the lines what Rabiot said is that Lamin needs to do more that can be read as Lamin has done nothing so far. and it is a challenge. To be fair I don't see nothing wrong with Rabiot statement. But I loved Lamin's response that's all. but you figured it all out. He can complement but he also dis him. Players do it to each other which is normal in football. i don't buy it, espn clickbait. Espn they are a joke to me. they are BIAS. doesn't even have a real pundit. Alan Shearerr Gery Lineker Ferddinan Terry Henry they can't afford any of those legends Espn that's why they talk about pie this isn't food network. I posted the comment because I know people like you will response which is fine.
Not knowing any better. Yes, that's a huge advantage. At this level of soccer, it's like Alex Honnold being too naive to know El Cap is a death trap in solo. If it was only that easy.
What is this? 4 friends talking about sport 30seconds and the rest of the time just joking and talking about them selfs??? What a great way to earn money!
To use the word “naive” is an insult you have a talented player who feels confident and responded to a veteran insulting him. Anyone with a modicum o personality would want to react like Yamal in a brilliant positive way on the field others react negatively. These ex players and pundits seem jealous it wasn’t them.
We have seen this before but we keep ignoring signs like this. When Real Madrid build a GALACTICO squad There was a special one to Upset them First it was Ronaldinho and Later Messi and Now they are try to repeat the same mistake that is why history is hunting them with YAMAL this boy is special, his control is top notch his vision n passes and what amazes me is his confidence and calmness when he has the ball.
Oh, verily, let us extol the prodigious talents of young Lamine Yamal, whose prodigious abilities on the hallowed pitch are nothing short of a divine revelation. At an age when most lads are but mere fledglings, this prodigious virtuoso has already inscribed his name in the annals of footballing lore. Behold his dribbling, a balletic symphony of movement, where he doth glide past defenders with the grace of a celestial being. His feet, like nimble fairies, dance upon the verdant sward, weaving a tapestry of bewilderment and awe. Opponents, ensnared by his beguiling footwork, are rendered as statues, unable to impede his inexorable advance. His composure, nay, his serenity, is that of a seasoned gladiator in the Colosseum, undaunted by the baying throngs. In moments of supreme tension, when lesser mortals might falter, Yamal remains as placid as a becalmed sea, orchestrating his team's endeavors with a maestro's touch. And lo, his goals! These are not mere strikes of fortune, but rather masterpieces of exquisite craftsmanship. Each one is a poetic ode to the beautiful game, a testament to his preternatural vision and precision. As the ball leaves his foot, it is as if it is guided by an unseen hand, destined to find its place in the net with unfaltering certainty. In sum, Lamine Yamal is a luminary of unparalleled brilliance, a paragon of youthful excellence whose exploits on the field defy the very bounds of age and expectation. His future, undoubtedly, is as radiant as the midday sun, and his legacy shall be recounted in the grandest of bardic tales for generations to come.
To those people commenting on how bad the "naive" comment by the panel is......the naivety of youth is a great thing in this context.(I wish I still had it to some degree)...its an expression that is actually positive in the context....so please either check your English, or chill out in your emotions.
Craig was just hating on Spain because only 2 of the players starting for Spain now played against that Scotland. He was also all the times saying how a nobody le Normand, Laporte playing for Spain and cucurella is not good enough
Well la masia doesn't produce that much superstars, but when they do they produce goats , messi , iniesta , xavi , pedro etc are the examples and lamine is going to be one of the greatest cause not only i am impressed by hia goal scoring skills , but his crosses, playmaking skills are even better and on messi , kdb level
All the blame to Dembele, nothing to Mbappe, but neither of them played anything. Mbappe was even far more disappointing. As a barcelona fan, i loved the outcome.
