Seems like the fundamental benefit of a lifted truck is the room to put on big tires that will give you more ground clearance. With that you can go off road and maybe even take Moab. Being able to go where other people can't is a nice luxury to have.
@kaneconnery6336
@kaneconnery6336 3 года назад
If you do it wrong it’ll be ruined. Change the different gear ratios to whatever will match the stock ratio to stock tire size to the new tire size. Get a lift from a good company like BDS or Cognito so it’s not a spacer-based lift. Instead, it’s one that’s all replacement parts (ex. Lifted struts from BDS). Can’t forget new leaf springs or traction bars to prevent axle wrap. Edit: If you do gears, your gas mileage will not drop very much or not at all. I did it for my ‘17 1500 Silverado with 6” BDS & 35s. I still get 15 mpg in the city and around 20-22 on highway. I did 4.56 gears from Nitro Gear & Axle.
@cornfedproductions9773
@cornfedproductions9773 3 года назад
Some grate content, would love to see them do the MPG test with corrected ring and pinion gearing, almost NO ONE does it, it would bring 90% of your power back. But it’s still a taller truck with a little more wind drag, but it would for sure get better mpg with corrected gearing.

I put a 3.5” lift kit along with 3.5” lifted struts on my Tundra. Also put 2” larger diameter mud tires on 18x9 rims. Ended up raising the truck about 5.5”. My MPG dropped from 19.2 to about 15.5. Then I added a catback dual exhaust and a cold air intake. Brought my MPG back up to 17.6 mpg - when I don’t get after it! I still want to install a tuner so the odometer, speedometer and ECM are calibrated for the new setup. But, I also felt it wasn’t going to be practical once lifted. WRONG. It’s still my daily driver. When I bought my tundra, it rode like a sedan. Now it rides like a TRUCK! #WINNING

You have to be into the cool factor because it does work harder with a lift on big wheels/tires. Anything over 35's you should re gear. Mpg goes to shit. And unless you buy a very expensive lift kit which most people dont it is far less comfortable than a stock ride. It's not for everyone but those that do are the coolest dudes going down the road next to a sports car.

Why didn't you mention axle gearing?? That makes the biggest difference in performance and drivability for a truck with larger tires. I assume the Silverado has been regeared given that it's on 37s. You can't think that a truck will perform anywhere near stock if it has a lot more tire on stock gears. Please make people aware of this because a lot of people building street queens like these may not know anything about different tire sizes and gears.
