So here's something that actually happened to me in the summer of 2001. United Airlines at that time would sell you time on their Level D simulators whether you had a pilot's certificate or not. They were trying to monetize the simulator down time and offer the general public an interesting experience. I paid $2650 for four hours of 777-200 sim time. Besides doing the standard maneuvers like takeoffs, landings, and various emergency scenarios, we did some fun that you don't normally do in these very expensive training devices. We landed this huge airplane on an aircraft carrier and did some aerobatics. But one of the things we did was make a fast pass low over NYC. We went past the Statue of Liberty and headed for the Twin Towers. I did a knife edge pass between the towers and then we reset to fly below the Golden Gate bridge. When the terrorists flew into the WTC buildings a couple of months later I was mortified and a bit wary of a knock on the door from the FBI wanting to talk. No LEO ever reached out to me though.

In fact, the OWTC is one of the only buildings (atleast I think) that you can't fly into. All other buildings are solid, except it.

Microsoft flight simulator used to have a challenge back in the day flying in between the World Trade Center buildings. After 9/11 they created a patch that would remove the buildings.

For anyone confused, you’re only gonna be banned in FS2002, which was released one month after 9/11 and as a mark of respect the WTC was removed and the aforementioned ban was implemented, however only on VATSIM.

Something else that automatically disproves the myth is the fact that they're not putting the twin towers in the game. They still have the new tower.

It doesn't make sense to ban people for that, when an entire franchise (CoD) has multiple games set aound killing people in recreations of historical events.

Back in the days of MFS 3.0 - 4.0 era there was what was called "adventures". One of them was a "follow my leader" beetween the few skyscrapers of NYC that were modeled back then. The first turn was threading the needle beetween the two towers and sure enough, like many others i'm sure, i missed it and crashed. So it would be ironic for MFS to ban you today.

It's not even the correct building! The WTC towers (2 of them) are not there. So the game isn't accurate.
