In the Russian name of Game&Watch "Г-н" stands for Господин (gospodin), which is also translated as mister. We have our own version of word "mister" (мистер) and it pronounced the same as in English, but we don't use its short version "Mr.", it just doesn't translates to Russian, so I think because of that our translators decided to use the short version of the other word which has the same meaning.
@@heroessquad2019 well they probably thought it'd be confusing for most people or maybe it's because over there Mr. Game & Watch was released with that name back when it first came out over there so I guess it's more of a reference for you all in the French version.
@@heroessquad2019 I mean, yea, but in French he still is named 'Game and Watch', so I can understand why they went with 'Mister (Mr.) Game & Watch' instead of 'Monsieur (M.) Game & Watch'. Plus the character's name is the full thing, not just 'Game & Watch', as that is a console genre.
As someone who speaks German, I can understand why "Dunkle Samus" if funny. What I personally find more interesting is the Fact, that each of the Dark Characters (Dark Pit, Dark Samus and Dark Link) use 3 different Words in German to say "Dark". Fintsterer Pit, Dunkle Samus and Link's Dark Color pallet gets called Schatten-Link. (Basically Shadow Link). The last one isn't in the Character Select, but I'm pretty sure it was in a Description or in a Mission in Melee or Brawl.
The thing that is especially odd to me is that they use "finster", a word implying something is sinister or evil, for Dark Pit. Yes, he's Pit's "Dark Side" but I mean... he actively helps the good guys. Dark Samus is the cruel villain of the two yet *that* character is described using the more neutral "dunkel".
"not really a carbon copy, a hydrogen copy maybe" If you wanted to be not quite carbon, say silicon, it has very many very similar properties, and some different properties. Its basically an echo fighter for carbon. Hydrogen has like no properties in common with any element, it's probably one of the most unique elements in our universe, it ain't copying anything.
I was trying to play it off as a sorta "lower tier down" ideal since, especially in biochemistry/organic chemistry, hydrogen is basically everywhere around carbon elements (so much of it to the point where graphs just imply its existence), so it almost gives off a sorta "outer layer" vibe, or I'unno that was my thought process lol But I do appreciate the more logical analysis of that quip, going down a column on the periodic table would've been a better mindset lmao
Speaking of which - and I'm pretty sure you noticed that too - a fighter is only officially considered an echo fighter in Smash Ultimate if he/she was introduced in Smash 4 or later. That's why Roy isn't an echo fighter of Marth, but Chrome is an echo fighter of Roy. Still weird to me, because my head always thinks Chrome is an echo fighter of Ike because of his Up-B.
@@bradevit2446 tbh I always thought him being a clone of Roy was strange.I think him and Ike could have the same fighting style. Especially since they both have blue hair and many theories suggest that they both have descendants in valm.
@@xdsmile5359 I think it makes the most sense for him to be like marth, not because he should fight similar to him but because Lucina is a marth clone and it’s a plot point in-game that they have the same fighting style
I like to think that the sounds of Meta Knight's jab are purposefully out of sync to show that the movement of the sword is faster than the speed of sound, and thus, the sound is slightly after. Yes I know I'm saying Meta Knight can move his arms faster than Sonic can even move at all, but like, have you seen his jab!?
The speed of sound is sonic casual speed not his top speed his top speed could range anywhere from mach 10-20 to massively faster then light though I don't personally believe sonic is faster than light
This does make sense, though it also becomes another one of those things where they sacrificed gameplay interest for some small idea of canon, despite many other canon breaks throughout the series for the converse reason. I think they coulda taken the creative liberty, but yeah you're right, it does make SENSE from that perspective
Unfortunately, that just brings about a similar problem in reverse: Chrom fights nothing like Marth, so why isn't Chrom a separate character with a new moveset with Lucina as his echo? I mean, I know it's because Sm4sh came first with it's terrible decision making regarding the Awakening crew, but think of the lost potential.
@@Casual_PKBeats I'm kinda sad you didn't mention how in the smash 4 guidance, they specifically mention Chrom not using Aether. The one move he has that's completely different than Roy.
@@TheEquestrianGallade Chrom doesn't fight like Marth in game but they share some similar animations due Lucina pretending to be Marth and Chrom sharing a style with his daughter. It's like why Falco & Fox and Mario & Luigihave some similar attacks but don't maintain a playstyle between the 2.
1: Piranha Plant has no eyes. 2: Do cameras count as eyes? If they don't, then R.O.B. doesn't count. Otherwise, yeah, there aren't many eye-less characters
@@Liggliluffi kinda preferred game and watch staying normal while doing his attacks, it felt more like a character that represented game and watch as a whole instead of turning into the game character the attack is based off of
If i had a nickel for every time Roy had an attack with unusually high kill power if you only hit with a specific part of the attack, i'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.
There's a couple reasons why Lucina's cape change isn't on her character page. The first is that costume stuff tends to not be "interesting enough" to go in a character's trivia section. The second is that trivia that spans multiple games will often go on their general page (the ones without SSB_) unless it is something along the lines of "There was a glaring flaw in X game. It was not fixed in this one". Of course you'll find exceptions to both here and there as policies change years later, more pages get made, editors become disinterested in or can't check certain games, so on and so forth.
I love the favoritism of needing to give Dark Pit a different final smash, and yet the Koopalings still have to share Bowser Jr's final smash. And just... Daisy being what Daisy is.
For Lucina : the emblem on 6/8 alts is the same that Chrom has on one of his shoulders, and is the symbol of their dynasty (Lucina is Chrom's daughter and has that symbol in her left eye) The Tharja alt has the eyes of Grima, the antagonist of FE Awakening (and a similar symbol is on Robin's cloak) The Tiki alt references the dragons of that universe, Tiki being a Manakete (human-dragon hybrid, with dragons being divinities in FE, and particularly Awakening)
Adding onto your comment with further info and context for the people reading: This isn’t directly related to your comment so much as the overall video but I think it’s worth mentioning that Chrom and Lucina are direct descendants of Marth, which is why they’re clones of him. They even wield the same sword, Falchion… maybe. I’m not actually sure why it looks so different, I don’t think that’s ever explained. Despite having blue hair, Ike is not related. Roy is also not related, which is why it’s odd that he’s a clone. Tharja has the eyes of Grima because she’s from Plegia, a nation associated with Grima, as opposed to being directly associated with him herself. Tiki isn’t a hybrid. She’s a pure blooded dragon, they’re just able to take human forms. There is a half-dragon in the game, and she has red scales instead of yellow or white. Tiki even directly brings this up: “Throughout my millennia of life in this world, every manakete has been of pure blood. ...Until you. You are unique-the first of our kind to have a human father.”
What’s even more ironic about Chrom not being an Ike echo is the fact that Viridi mentions that while he would be a “carbon copy”, he wouldn’t even have a recovery move like Aether. The move they say he wouldn’t have from Ike is the only one he does have from Ike. Viridi was wrong about how Chrom would play in every single possible way.
I imagine the reason Roy's running animation was changed back was because his arm was clipping his cape through that entire short clip, and presumably through his entire dash.
Just so you know PKBeats, another way to see the 3D Game & Watch model is in the Amiibo menu. When you're viewing an Amiibo you can rotate them with the right stick and doing so for Game & Watch doesn't have the 2D effect applied to it. So you get cursed 3D Game & Watch in all its glory.
iirc in Melee (Roy's first appearance), his playable model didn't have a sheath at all, when he didn't have the sword in hand it would just kinda float around his waist as if it was inside a sheath. But one of his trophies resembling his taunt DID have a sheath. So I'm guessing it might be a mistake getting carried over from past Smash games
6:45 If the smash develop team wanted to give us 2 carbon copies of a character we already had, they should have done Solid Snake, Liquid Snake and Big Boss. Am I right fellas?
You're starting to sound really exhausted man. Love the content and the consistent quality, but feel free to explore new games to provide facts on. Anyways, the fact on G&W having eyes also applies to Piranha Plant. However, the glint for his parry animation and his battle intro screen appears on top of one of his teeth!
I think Chrom was an echo of Roy because in Fire Emblem Awakening, it's said Chrom and Lucina fight in the exact same way since Chrom taught her how to fight. I doubt the developers even considered this tbh but this is my headcanon about why Roy was chosen as the echo base.
Yo, noticed you were kinda negative in regards to people caring about you outside of your smash videos. I'm here to say there's a lot of us that do! Your a cool and funny guy my dude
I like the unnecessary detail how for when Meta Knight does the highest part of his neutral attack, he flips his blade a little bit to slam it down leading back into his left and right format
Roy has his scabbard in his Ultimate render too. Interesting... Also as for Chrom's Flare Blade it could be referring to the light of his blade rather than flame. Because flare can mean a sudden burst for flames or light. Edit: His shadow alone already looks 3D right here lol. 9:00
Anyone else notice PKbeats sounding progressively more tired in each one of his smash videos? I don't want to make any assumptions but he should make the kind of content he enjoys making, I hope he makes more videos like that. Idk about yall but I'll still watch whatever videos he puts out
I get a comment like this in just about every video and I really don't hear it. I'm just talkin' bro lol. Usually depends on what time of day I record. If I record later at night, I sound a bit more lively, and if I record early in the day, my voice is a bit deeper and more hoarse. I've been making it a point to try and add less "fluff" in my videos, just talk more naturally, so I think people tend to conflate that with me being "tired." I promise I'm alright, thank you though
One of the best ways to get a look at Game & Watch’s 3D nature is to use his Amiibo! In the amiibo menu with him, he’s completely 3D for some reason instead of his usual two dimensions and you can turn him around as much as you’d like!
The devs for Smash needed to individualize SFX so that multihits play out a little more sensibly when a timer is activated or training mode speed is lowered. It happens for most characters with multihits.
The Mr Game & Watch bit is most likely to keep the announcer consistant with how they say his name, while each language gets their own spin on name pronunciation, Mr G&W stays roughly the same because he's representative of a console, the Game & Watch systems, Mister being a title in this case, kinda how miss and mister are titles in beauty contests (ie "Miss France" in a country that has 3 different ways to say miss but they keep the English term instead), what I'm saying is that's not his name, that's his job/title, Mister "Game & Watch"™ It would be like calling Mario Mr Jumpman or Bowser King of the Koopas
@@baofleurence7650 Madame, mademoiselle, demoiselle, & damoiselle are all still in use in France tho the latter two aren't as common as they once were. Demoiselle still find some uses in demoiselle d'honneur.
A fact about Roy I've never seen mentioned that very subtly also effects Chrom is that if you use Neutral B and do the turnaround animation I think once or twice the effect on their swords break.
7:13: You're not really being that redundant or beating a dead horse, actually. This idea of Chrom being based on Ike instead of Roy is something I haven't seen come up before.
You can test if Ganondorf's up taunt works in spirit battles if you use Hinawa. She makes you invincible once you've taken a lot of damage Edit: I tried it and it doesn't work
The detail of Mr Game and watch's eyes also applies to Piranha plant, but strangely the "flash" that appears is on the upper lip for some reason, and not on a spot or something
To me there's a pretty obvious reason Chrom was modeled after Roy instead of Ike. Because he needs to maintain a similar fighting style to Lucina. In canon, Lucina learned how to fight from Chrom, which makes sense because she's his daughter and she even uses the same sword, and in games like Awakening and Warriors, they are echoes of each other to drive this home. So it would come across weird if Chrom was all of a sudden mimicking a fighter that fights completely different to Lucina. That being said, a lot of people would also agree that in spirit Chrom fights a more agro style to the likes of Ike as opposed to the more controlled and graceful style Marth brings to the table, who Lucina is only echoing because it's thematically appropriate as a woman who was masquerading as Marth for the early parts of Awakening. So the middle ground is having Chrom echo Roy, who still maintains a lot of Marth's playstyle but has since adopted a more rushdown heavy style, and just gave him Soaring Slash to compensate.
13:59 I remember reading an interview about why Kirby was chosen at the start, it probably answers this. Other characters like Beyonetta couldn't travel to purgatory to escape because everyone there had already been consumed by the light. It's not that hard to assume Viridi was already consumed as well- with all the clever assumptions you make or think to test out, I'm surprised you didn't get that one. Of course there's also, "because the animators wanted to have Pit and Dark Pit lose their flight when Palutena was consumed" which of course, also isn't that difficult to imagine, but it doesn't sound as interesting as the first one.
Missed opportunity to call Chrom's "Flare Blade", "Air Blade". Or maybe Flair Blade... Also would have been cool if they gave Chrom all of Ike's specials while keeping Roy's normals.
I think the reason why Pit has the Lightning Chariot as his final smash is because of the Palutena conversation against Dark Pit, The Lightning chariot was under Dark Pit’s command but I’d imagine Pit won the fight and now has possession of the Chariot.
When Lucina got announced I wanted her to be a faster weaker ike. Ya know. With aether and all that. I feel like it would've made more sense. Then chrom eventually be a clone of Lucina
(11:50) Considering G&W was released in April, and Ultimate in December, that makes it 38 years and 8 months, which is closer to 39 than 38. Also considering how close it is to the end of 2018, it might have been planned for 2019? ... It's most likely a pun though.
This isn't in Sonics wiki but I feel like I should mention it Sonic is the only character who doesn't hit the wall in his wall splat animation instead he jumps off of the wall
As far as Palutena helping Dark Pit fly in World of Light instead of Viridi, my explanation is that Palutena knew they didn’t have time to hope Viridi would notice so decided to extend her powers to Dark Pit as well
Making Chrom and Echo of Roy is actually very fitting because Roy has a similar moveset to Marth and Lucina learned how to fight from her father. He wouldn't work as an Ike Echo due to how stubby his sword is.
I noticed something funny at 10:31 In French, your selection screen says "Bagarreur Mii", but I was sure that it is called "Boxeur Mii" in France. And in fact, this is true : the American French version of Smash has a different name for Mii Brawler than the European French version. I guess this is due to the fact that the language is slightly different if you go to Canada. I wonder if there are also differences like this between American version of SSBU and English version.
There are some differences between the American and European English versions, like the Wii Fit Trainers' voices and words being spelled with or without unnecessary u's.
For some reason, I think I'm hearing your voice a little differently. Might be something with the mic, or just the natural progression of speech patterns. I like it, it sounds pretty :)
im late but.... 14:33 wtf Where did you find this picture of that article? haha what a trip, i frekn posted that to SmashBoards many years ago!! 4 in the morning here and just had to double check by logging in for the first time in 5 years lol I actually contributed to something for once! : D Im pretty sure it was a GameInformer mag :)) i wonder if i still have that issue somewhere.... (edt: now im laughing at the fact you had to zoom in on its bad quality dim-lit ipad camera XD
Oh wow, small world! I just remember googling something like "why sakurai made Dark Pit a separate character" and scrolled around till I found a good source. Glad to see you here!
I thought I was a gift from the chariots master, who wanted to leave Phos and Lux in Pits care. Also Viridi has also helped Pit out in the past so it wouldn't surprise me if she let him borrow it.
Tharja actually doesn't have any connection to the Mark of Grima, which is what the the three eyes on the back of Lucina's black cape reference. Other than the fact that The Cult of Grima operates in her home country of Plegia. Robin does, however. The eye motif is all over his/her coat.
the transformations for MR.GnW makes sense to be just flat 2D models instead of a fully 3D character flattened, since it's basically ripping the original graphics form the original game & watch games. what catches my interest is that Oil Panic (the bucket move) doesn't seem to follow the same rule as the rest? What i mean is, the body for the move uses the regular body that GnW has in smash, but the head is replaced for "sprite" of the bucket holder in Oil Panic. I haven't played smash in a long time, but now i wonder if they bothered to make a 2D version of his body for that move, or if it's a weird combination of a 3D body with a 2D head
1:50 respawn invincibility doesn't work, but super armor does! if you can manage to get a super armor spirit (e.g. Full Armor X or Polar Bear) you can stand on the lava. at around 100% you should start taking knockback, so i think it's worth trying it out
Little fun bonus for the meta knight jab fact, he had a distinctly different (and much worse) jab in Brawl, which has the same rhythm of slice sounds except they actually DO match the animation. It seems they based the sound effect on the brawl version of the move even though he's had a different jab ever since smash 4
I found out a super simple way to see 3D G&W! Apparently when you scan an amiibo you can rotate them! Why? ...I don't know tbh xD but I just bought a G&W amiibo today and wanted to surprise my friend Taking a picture of him facing the camera thinking it would make him disappear since he's flat. But what happens? Apparently he's got a full 3D model there so it's absolutely cursed to see him looking straight into your soul xD
I haven't seen anybody else mention it, so I'm going to. Chrom sharing the name of his neutral special with Roy kind of makes sense if you know a bit of FE lore (and make a bit of a leap in logic). In the series, there's multiple different Fire Emblem's, and in the Archanea, Valentia & Jugdal Timeline, alot of the holy weapons, as well as one of the Fire Emblems, are made by Naga or from a part of Naga. In this case, Chrom's Flare Blade could be more of a reference to the Binding Shield & its relationship with the Falchion, since the Awakening Ceremony can only be completed when the Falchion & the Fire Emblem, with all 5 of its gems, are together and is preformed in the site in which Naga has the most influence at, which brings out the Falchion's true power. When it comes to the Elibe Timeline, the Binding Blade, Roy's Sword, it was originally locked away & could only be drawn by using the Fire Emblem from his world, which was a Seal. So Roy's Flare Blade could also be referring to the relation of the Fire Emblem of his world & the Binding Blade, not just the elements of the attack. Tldr: the name of the attack called Flare Blade could be referring to the relation between the 2 swords and the Fire Emblems.
For the spirit battle lava floor, you could use first-strike advantage, invincibility after eating (exclusive to super happy tree, obtained from summoning), or critical immunity (exclusive to hinawa, guaranteed in world of light as one of the spirits blocking the way to the final boss
0:45 Not really a Tharja reference. The usual emblem is the Royal Crest of Ylisse. The country Lucina is from. She also has the same emblem within one of her eyes as members of the royal family usually have this emblem as a birthmark somewhere on their body. The three eyes symbol instead is the emblem of the the neighboring Theocracy Plegia and mostly seen on the robes of Black Mages. Tharja is from Plegia, but so is Henry (and even Robin), so it isn't really a reference to everyone's favorite obsessive curse-slinger specifically. 6:59 To be fair: Being a distant descendant of Marth is what Chrom canonically _is_ , so checks out I guess. Also: Of course they would "reverse-engineer" the situation to have Chrom fight with a nearly identical style as Lucina. Because he taught her everything. 9:04 Having eyes on the sides of your head isn't too weird though. Just look at a horse.
Well tbh Roy has always been Marth's real eco fighter I guess they figured that well sense we added back in everyone's favorite orginal melee eco fighter we can give him an eco fighter if that makes sense. Also technically Chrom's move is a flare blade it's cause it's power isn't wind but is "holy" which is basically pure light which ya know in moat rpg or turn based games has fire like properties so it's different kind of flare blade. As for Dark Pit having blue wings in world of light I think that it's because Palutina was closer so he's would have been stronger if that makes sense that and Sakurai need some excuse to make everyone but Kirby get captured we all know he plays favorites. Although I will say if you ignore getting Virdi's spirt and get Dark Pit before going back I've notice that at least for me it'll give him the blue flight as well which makes sense but if you then go get Virdi his flight will turn green it's a interesting detail sense most probably wouldn't notice but it could be glitch idk.
Chrom being an ike echo fighter kinda wouldn't work because Ike's sword is 2 handed and way bigger. That and Ike's heavier built means it would be kind of awkward to transfer the moveset. Just imagine Ike's f smash on chrom. Would be way less weighty and kinda bad considering the huge startup but without Ike's huge range. Besides, it really makes more sense for chrom to be an aggressive take on marth (more so than roy tbh) because chrom is a direct descendant of Marth but he's more brash and impulsive of a leader in his game.
One thing no one ever considers when saying that Chrom should've been an Ike echo is that like, look at Chrom's sword. Falchion is sleek, lightweight. It wouldn't fit at all with the ways Ike swings Ragnell. He'd look stupid.
I doubt it was intentional but for the dark pit world of light idea, my only guess is because Viridi was a spirit, I’m not totally sure how it would work with her existing but I don’t know, so if Viridi was a spirit, she couldn’t give dark pit flight, meaning it would make sense for Palutena to give him flight.
About Game and Watches russian translation I was honestly surprised myself, word "mister" exists in russian language and being used, but in the translation they decided to use similar word, but it's closer to the word "master",so maybe the translation team just loves Game &Watch as much as I do
One small fun fact you missed on Game and Watch is that he's one of the very few characters (the only I can think of) that has a move programmed to make no sound effect when it connects. I'm talking about sourspot fsmash, if it hits it there's no hit sound associated to it (even the game files of the move point to something called "attack_sound_none" or something similar) Probably not too interesting to be featured in your video but curious nonetheless
Mr. Game & Watch's transformations are also 3D modeled, just modeled flat from what I understand. The texture looks weird because of the fact that the metal texture is specifically mapped for the standard body to look like round depth. Game & Watch normally being a solid color means the textures don't get changed for every little form, so the other models aren't mapped correctly. That's even more clear when you replace the G&W texture with an image
One thing that always pissed me off about the Palutena's Guidance conversation about Robin in Smash 4 is the one line that was something like "Plus, you don't have an Aether recovery move like Ike, do you?" When Chrom DOES, in fact, learn Aether! How could they confidently make a comment like that? Did everyone on the team just kind of forget? And then they made Chrom act all "damn you right," but Chrom and Lucina are the ONLY two characters who can learn Aether in Awakening. Not even Ike's descendant learns Aether.
I don't think "sheath" is wrong (you can still use the verb "sheathe" to describe putting away a sword), but scabbard is more correct. Scabbards are rigid, usually due to a wood core or being made entirely of metal like later bayonet and saber scabbards.
Speaking of language differences, I play my game in German because I'm trying to learn the language, and it pisses me off that "King DeDeDe" was changed to "König DeDeDe" (the word for "King" in German), yet "King K. Rool" stays the same. I'm guessing that has something to do with Rare being bought out by Microsoft or something, but even still. It bothers me.
Most clones: We got time for copy with some numbers changed wouldn't hurt to add one more. Dark Pit: Let's put in extra effort to make this clone happen. 😎
Idk if it's mentioned in the wiki but in Ultimate after doing his final smash in the air Roy doesn't do a back flip (like the animation after he attacks while using the Sword of Seals in his game) anymore like he did in Sm4sh where it pretty much gave him a third jump
Imma submit this fact again: The Azura spirit is actually useless. It costs two slots for two effects that can be equipped separately for one slot each: Increased weapon power and increased move speed. Equipping those 1-slot spirits separately gives you the same weapon power but more movement speed than equipping Azura, and you don't get your Power inflated as much (meaning you get better rewards).
If I had to wager why the Kid Icarus cast compared Chrom to Ike, it was likely because in Smash 4 Roy was not in the base roster, and with Marth already having Lucina, Ike was probably the closest candidate to compare him too. Because even though Ike and Chrom are quite similar in build, Ike's moveset would never really work on Chrom considering he wields a one handed sword. I'm quite satisfied in the compromise they made though because it does make him feel distinctly different from Roy and like you can have a legit preference between the two. I really wish they went for more differences in Echo fighters.
Quick german lesson: the "u" in "dunkle" in German is pronounced very close to the "oo" in "doom", and the "e" at the end is pronounced after the "l". Maybe it helps to visualise it as sort of an "ey" sound?
Kind of funny how we see you playing medic when you are talking about the pain in your hand/wrist. Hope you’re doing well, though, and another great video!
"You see a little effect play over Mr. Game & Watch's portrait" -- man, I was staring at the _character_ itself and looking at the visible eyes and was soo confused what you were talking about 😅 and then I noticed the enlarged "profile picture" of the character at the bottom of the screen and I finally understood what you meant. Thanks, never knew Perfect Shield showed up in those character cards :O
Unless Game & Watch is his last name, which makes no sense, Mr. Game & Watch would be Sr. Juego y Reloj in Spanish, with Sr. being the shortened form of Senor, the Spanish translation of Mister. Either that or my Spanish teacher taught me wrong
Adding on to the thing with Chrom being modeled after Roy, He's a huge Ike fanboy in his game, so canonically you would expect him to be an Ike echo too.
