Thank you for saying so Angela! I just hope that these videos can help somebody or their loved one with PD just like yourself.

Most blood pressure problems come from the meds.

Medications greatly increase the risk of low blood pressure, but I must point out that orthostatic hypotension can happen regardless of how many meds one is taking and is a known non-motor symptom of PD.

This is very interesting because I have low 02 at night and it lowers to 87/89 which I use oxygen for. My BP has been 110/65 normally but has been as low as 90/55 I've been diagnosed with sleep apnea only to be told 6 months later that it's gone. I have Parkinson's but nobody has made this connection nor have they diagnosed me with hypo orthostatic syndrome.

Yep. The low O2 may be from another underlying issue, such as sleep apnea, but it could theoretically be from slowed diaphragm action and/or reduced intercostal muscle activation; all of which could lead to shallow breathing while asleep. In the case of the BP, there are luckily some meds called pressors that could be prescribed by a physician to keep the BP from tanking

@@parkinsonsdiseaseeducation I'm following what your saying and your spot on with the slow diaphragm as I've caught myself during the night while awake watching TV to breathe so the muscle moves. This has to also connect to the gut as I have gastritis and of course chronic constipation 🙃

😃 YES. Gut motility/peristalsis is of course tied in with the vagus nerve (Cranial Nerve X.) and as you know the slowed contractions result in constipation and conditions such as gastroparesis. Diaphragm action comes from the phrenic nerve, but that’s a unique situation: your diaphragm is automatic and controlled by the brain stem, BUT you can also voluntarily control the muscles in the ribs and the diaphragm itself. Regardless, it’s most definitely the case that PD can effect contractions of these muscles. Any and all muscle activation can be effected.
