Did you know that women with HS are 2x more likely to also have polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)? Your doctor probably doesn’t know this! There’s a real connection here, and in this video I discuss what PCOS is, how it’s diagnosed, and how HS relates to PCOS. Thanks for watching!

Diagnosed with both, HS and PCOS. Have also noticed my HS flares occur more often during or the days leading up to my periods. It's very closely related.

This is gold!!! I suffer with both and here in one video I heard all the information I had to learn and look for many years my self! Because none of the doctors I went to and I went to sooooo many explain da single thing to me, except for “ you should lose weight and here are the antibiotics/pills for you. When you want to get pregnant - come back“. You are such an Angel for doing this and giving all this information for free!!!! Thank youuuuuuu❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Thank you for posting up this video .. I got diagnosed with PCOS a long time ago, and about two years ago I got diagnosed with HS. Both of my conditions have gotten dramatically worse over the last two years. It is so painful that I struggle to do basic daily tasks. This video has helped a lot. Thank you

Thank you very much! I have tears in my eyes as I have never received a comprehensive health exam to connect all the conditions I live with everyday and for decades. I have been diagnosed with both but no treatment or real assessment in 10 or more years. Yes, I have had flare ups. I have been diagnosed with so many conditions PCOS, HS, Uterine Fibroids, PMDD, Morbid Obesity, Insulin Resistent, Cystic Acne, Fibromyalgia, Plantar Faciitis, Bunion, Severe Arthritis, Carpal Tunel, OSA, HTN, Asthma, Environmental Allergies, HyperInsomnia, ADHD, Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, Overactive Bladder, Irritable Bowel Syndrome and more possibly but no one has treated me as a whole person. I am experiencing inflamation, fatigue, pain everywhere, anxiety, depression and more symptoms with 12-16 pills daily and CPAP machine nightly. Multiple treatment providers.

hidradenitis supparativa patient with the cysts and sinus tract I can sympathise with an autoimmune disease. You need to be careful about what you wash your skin with and what antiperspirant you use. Avoid strong perfumes. I use Sanex shower wash in the shower which doesn’t smell the best but it looks after the skin. I use deodorant with 0% aluminium and avoid Sure brand as it aggravates it. For open wounds on the cysts hydrocolloid dressings are excellent at promoting healing. There’s also a diet component reduce sugar intake. Seeing your doctor for treatment for insulin resistance is good idea as well. I take metformin and I’m not diabetic but it seems to improve the severity of the cysts as well as taking the contraceptive pill. I also take oxybutynin for sweating which has helped keep underarms and pantyline dryer while at work in my uniform. It needs action from all sides to make improvement to the skin condition

Thank you so much for these videos you make for us. Most doctors I've seen aren't familiar with hs. I sometimes don't know what to do. But you help by giving answers. Thank you so much!!!

Wow!! Amazing video! Thank you so much. You describe everything in lay terms which makes it easy to understand importance and remind me to continue to change my diet and lifestyle. You’re literally a lifesaver, as other doctors have not been helpful at all. I bookmark your videos to rewatch to provide myself a reminder. Thank you again!

Thx for this video. I have HS; feet, ankles and hands frequently swell, etc. Trying to lower or eliminate refined sugar for starters, exercise 5-7 days/wk and get adequate sleep (the hardest).

I love this video. Especially about the insulin resistant part. A few years ago I didn’t use to have this issue. But the past year or so I think I am insulin resistant due to working at a fast food place for a year I ate there 4-5x a week and ate super unhealthy for a long time after that. I think it disrupted my body because my periods stopped for a few months. And I started to eat really clean and my period returned after a week. But then I fell out of the clean eating habit and ate unhealthy again and my period stopped again and still haven’t returned. (Guess I’m super sensitive.) But you had mentioned insulation resistance will mess up with ovulation so I really got a clear understanding since it all pieces together. Tell me if I’m wrong. I also just know I have more of testosterone too. So it all just went together. And I sadly still haven’t figured out a good healthy eating lifestyle that I could stick with.

I'm hoping that maybe you could point me in the right direction because right now I don't know what to do anymore. I'm going to give a warning this is going to be a little graphic everybody. I am a bilateral I'm missing both my legs one aboveknee and the other is a hip disarticulation. I have stage 3 hidradenitis suppurativa. I have it all over my body but the worst is around my rectum. Twice this year I've had surgery to drain abscesses that get the size of Nerf footballs cutting half long way. The last one being last week on Halloween I laid down an hour before trick-or-treating starts within that hour a golf ball-sized abscess turned into a huge one like I mentioned above. My white blood cell count was over 30000. I need to find the right surgeon to remove all the tracking in the whole Ant Farm thing around my rectum and in a couple other places on my body. The probably one running into is because of my amputations doctors are scared of me because of the pressure that's applied to that area when I sit. I've got to find someone to help me I can't keep going through this over and over. I can't take Humira because of my liver. I've been on doxycycline, clindamycin, clindamycin gel, acitretin, dutasteride. The list goes on and on and nothing is helping. I'm at my wit's end. I live with horrible chronic pain from the loss of my legs and now my arms hurt so bad because they've been overused so much. I've had failed back surgery that pain from that. And now I've got the stupid h s on top of everything period is just making my life miserable. I want to go to Florida and have dr. Resnick do surgery but I can't afford 300 Telehealth fees and he doesn't take my insurance. I cannot find anybody in the state of Illinois to help me. I don't know what to do anymore

Hello, wondering your opinion on either Keto or Whole 30 for HS/PCOS? Thanks!
@HelpForHS

These diets can be extremely helpful for HS and PCOS! You may have to do a modified version that doesn't involve dairy, eggs or nightshades depending on your individual triggers. But getting insulin under control with these diets will help both conditions. Thank you for watching! ~Dr. Ashley

I hear you mention high insulin levels can make HS worse. I am Type 1 diabetic, so I have to take insulin just to live anyway. How do I know if the amount I take is too much?

Dr Ashley, since insulin levels plays a part at HS, do you believe fasting is beneficial or not recommended for HS suffers?

Is there any grain, rice,flat bread, pasta or bread suitable for hs sufferers?

We don't advise grains due to their effects on blood sugar and the GI tract. Fortunately there are a number of heathy "swaps" for these foods such as "zoodles" or spiralized zucchini. If you haven't already, sign up for our newsletter where we share recipes and tips! www.helpforhs.com/
