Let’s have the Pharrell at Louis Vuitton discussion, cause it’s a lot more nuanced than most other fashion brands, because historically, it’s not actually a fashion brand! #fashion #style #louisvuitton #pharrellwilliams #lv
Thankyou for explaining to ppl who dont know that the main focus is the bags & trunks. Some of the men's clothing are fine. Others are very limited and meant for only certain people & collectors.
@@johndeere3486 the fashion show is one of their main ways to advertise the goods they are going to sell each season. you could say it isn't the best way but it could have been rooted in the big part of the traditional way which fashion brands use to present their items to the media and the masses. or you could say "it is an advertisement" oh fun fact : LV sells every time they do these runways. but mostly their accessories are sold. PS.(even tho no one has reacted to my comment yet but here is more information) the fashion show is also an investment. if it worked out then the critic (often get paid to say good things) will rule out their thoughts and with the teams help they will make it sellable to the masses aka. publish it to normal everyday people life to get more engagement in order to lure more costumer.
I actually like the clothes. But its not just about the clothes with Pharrell he makes the whole show a spectacle by releasing new music, great set design and locations, interesting themes
I love his fashion shows and accessories! It's different and unique. Very Pharrell! Its all art and I understand everyone is not going to love it. Enough people do that they kept him around and I bought a bag. He is doing something right! . @bigstunna2049
I’m going into marketing and I immediately was like “That’s a genius idea” when it was the Men’s Pre-Fall show. With his connections to different artists as a producer combined with the connections of LV, it only makes sense.
@sybill123ful but I'm not here dry hating. I'm full of admiration. Losers attack what they can't have, winners admire greatness coz it's familiar to them.
Does it bug me that Louis Vuitton does not have its own design language? Yes. Did I like this collection a lot? YESSS! I think the clothes were cool, the accessories were also really nice and the bags I found to be great as well. I loved the turquoise bag, it’s tacky and I am here for it.
he cheapens the image of Louis Vuitton made its image look ghetto. That is why the rich people are buying Hermes more now coz it retained it's classy luxurious image while Louis Vuitton are targeting the black community market with no budget to buy luxury goods.
I’ll say this Pharrell and Virgil are the only ones that have made me interested in buying a LV bag. They create pieces that people will ask you about and comment on for better or worse
As an Indigenous American I have been seeing from the Internet community of Indigenous Peoples, the collection is not being perceived well. Tokenism is a word highly used to describe this collection.
Is this not also appropriation and commodification of indigenous craftsmanship? Is any of the jewllery made by indigenous craftspeople? Are they benefited by this collection? These are questions that come to mind when I see fashion houses engaging in similar behavior. Of course, it's not just LV but many houses including Dior, that constantly copy and appropriate patterns or entire garments, jewllery etc from cultures that they give no credit or monetary compensation to. I would like people to instead directly support local and indigenous artisans rather than give their money away to large fashion houses.
@BlueStarBurns if you read articles on this collection, you would know that he actually used native American designers do recreate native American imagery. People just love to jump on concepts that they have not fully researched.
@@tinachristine4573 I have read that the creative director "worked with indigenous artists". The extent of their contributions was not mentioned and they were unnamed. I specifically asked if the jewllery was made by indigenous artisans, I have not found relevant information on that. What are the concepts that "people" love to jump on? Appropriation? Commercialisation of indigenous heritage? Capitalism? Colonialism? I have in fact done research on those topics at a postgraduate level. Do indigenous people have a right to say that they didn't like the tokenistic approach of this collection, or have they not done sufficient research to appease you?
Tokenism: the practice of making only a perfunctory or symbolic effort to do a particular thing, especially by recruiting a small number of people from underrepresented groups in order to give the appearance of sexual or racial equality within a workforce. At best this is Tokenism..
There is a full video. I enjoyed it and the music was nice. RU-vid has a video regarding Pharrell's Louis Vuitton Menswear collection 2024. Not sure of the exact title.
Thanks so much for explaining that, I was so caught up in how gorgeous and ethereally beautiful all the people were I kinda forgot for a sec that LV is an accessories brand. What a show, it left an incredible impact on me I think about it throughout the day. Love you so much for posting this man thanks again
No matter what’s being said about Pharrell the clothes are gonna sell remember he has a big influence on the Asian community and he also has a big impact on the celebrities as well and they all will continue to BUY!!!
Why do you let Pharrell off this easy when you used to give Virgil hell? At least Virgil made exciting clothes that helped to sell the accessories too. That's how it's supposed to work.
exciting is subjective because i think this runway is better than any of virgils, Ges the best fashion writer EVER but his runways weren’t very interesting it was more of his materials used then the actual clothing
yeah I can say (some of) the bags are nice but the clothes suck. Virgil was able to do both, at least get somebody in there to make it respectable cause this collection was rough.
I think a lot of the clothes work as pieces, not the full look. Like the white leather jacket was beautiful as well as the cut of a lot of the pants were very classic and could be worn more than one season.
I bought my forever LV handbag at age 68 so I wouldn't have to invest another fortune in a bag again. It's kinda working. Now 71, so only 3 years, BUT the bag always looks good!❤
I really like the risks he's taking with LV and some people hate that. Obvi Virgil is sorely missed and gone too soon (and I prefer his vision for the house) but Pharrell has always had vision, even in his music. People will look back at Pharrell's time and say "wow, he was truly doing something there" when he's gone.
The show can be overwhelming to some who don’t like the theme but if you go and touch these clothes and view them as separates there’s tons to love. Plus I rarely see anyone in RTW especially people who hand out judgement. The accessories and bags and trunks are absolutely knockout and that IS LV’s core business. The rest is a cultural connection.
The issue is though you could claim every house is an accessories brand because they all make most of their sales through accessories and perfumes etc. LV isn’t special
I thought it was well done. Pharrell is a kitschy, campy guy and that definitely comes through in this collection. The jackets, coats and some of the suiting were really well done in my opinion. Loved the subtle touches of turquoise in rivets and buttons. I fucking loved it, sorry.
I actually like the collections, yet I absolutely hate maximalism, but I’m loving the expansion of the damier prints and the leather too. The other brands have been pretty toned down in design so it’s nice to see this deviation.
Thanks for explaining. The collection, well, was a bit much or maybe not enough. It seems like looks put together fom a merchandiser and not designer. Is that a fair read? But I do love the pink Speedy and the dress/pant set.
I may be the only one who loved the WHOLE show. The bags were the star of the show but I Loved the long coats especially the ones with the fringe at the bottom. I found it to be very entertaining.
I thought that it was good! It also helped in its own way, just as Ralph Lauren's collections have been to move away from ideas of cultural appropriation and more towards ideas of cultural representation and appreciation. Yes it could have been a bit more heavy on the design aspect of the clothing, but the majority are actually something one could wear. A lot of fashion isn't. I think it was not done too badly. Not perfectly but not too badly at all.
I guess what I dislike about your commentary now is how you were quite critical of Virgil when he did exactly the same thing… and even better if you compare their works. I’m not a big fan of Virgil’s work btw… so I’m not some headless fanboy… and that turquoise bag isn’t exactly a novelty… changing the color of a bag is not the most creative way of creating hype nowadays.
