Does Rolex have any idea you've flipped your watch? And why do they even need to know?
With the increasing difficulties of purchasing numerous Rolex watches, as well as their restricted availability, the idea of flipping or selling a Rolex watch purchased from an official Rolex retailer is becoming more popular.
Many consumers who are unfamiliar with the Rolex market may be shocked to learn that selling a watch they recently purchased from a Rolex retailer is a controversial topic. However, the Rolex watch market has evolved clearly different from most of the other markets in a number of respects. Before we get into the details on how Rolex knows if you flip your watch, it's important to understand first why they need to know.

They took off the dealer name and no customer registration required to activate warranty for one simple reason: They LOVE the grey market! It’s the best advertising possible, drives demand and ensures everything they make is pre-sold for years to come. They have always been the best at advertising and this is no different. Proud to say I only aid MSRP for my Rolex’s. Wouldn’t own one any other way.

Some Rolex authorized dealers have been known to sell the watches to Gary Market dealers. So the wait list does not mean much. Rolex just instigated a new policy to the AD’s,costumers are only aloud 3 Rolex purchases within a calendar year.

I have bought three new Rolex watches in the past 18 months, had a Wimbledon two tone jubilee offered by two ADs within days of each other. Not interested in flipping I genuinely bought them for my own use and I think the dealers saw that by my approach.

I’ve only ever wanted one Rolex and that was a no date pre ceramic Sub, new. I got put off with the way Rolex AD’s played the game and stupid pre Owned market prices, now I walk passed Rolex and buy Tudor. I have a LHD Pelagos, New 3 years ago with discount, and a black bay Pro at retail. I am very pleased with both great value for my money.

This is nonsense. If Rolex, or the majority of ADs, did really care about flippers or did track them and prevent them from buying again, then the grey market would slowly, but steadily, dry out. Instead, ADs windows are more empty than ever, while the gray market is as flooded with brand new Rolexes as it’s ever been.

Rolex should worry about their AD's selling to the gray market pirates.

AD do sell to the grey market dealers . Always have done and always will do , they are a business who need sales targets to be met . So selling unwanted watches to grey market dealers is perfect for them . Rolex watches are not as rare as they say . Thousands for sale in Crono24 . Whats rare is buying them new at Retail .

I totally agree. Rolex is not rare but hard to almost impossible to buy from Retail especially the basic steel professional models. Rolex know majority of these models end up in the grey market and only a handful in the genuine watch enthusiasts who buy for own use and keeping. Rolex also know this has somehow effected their brand reputation negatively and if not checked, it will eventually damaged their brand for good, hence Rolex is now reigning in some control to balance (not completely eliminate) the sales of their watches to real watch individuals and flippers. Ideally, Rolex would want the ratio to be 60/40 in favour of the real watch individual in my opinion in order to keep their watch hype going hence market demand.

Rolex's superior status has increased its demand & flipping occurs naturally as a result.

There are reports that Rolex is actively looking for people to flip their watches. Whether this is true, only Rolex knows.

I love my 1967 tritium-plexi 5513 on rivet bracelet to bits. As for my modern Milgauss, I never wear it. The only reason it's still in my safe is because it more than doubled in value. No chance of buying another modern Rolex, which stands for showoff and speculation, hardly values I want to be associated with. Shame to see this brand drift into vulgarity.

I definitely think Rolex is always aware if you flip your Rolex watch. Rolex takes their time manufacturing the watch they know what it takes.

Are you aware that Rolexes are machine made? If they wanted they would be able to scale production very fast compared to training more microartists in Japan.

The things you mentioned in this video is all wrong. Rolex creates this scarcity and flipper system by purpose and they control only this, nothing more! Rolex is not a luxury watch brand anymore, it is a Swiss elite black market company.

Rolex know only too well that AD's offload their surplus inventory to Flipper's. They are so up their own butthole's that China is not buying their brand ATM and Chrono 24 and other sites are making a killing out of ROLEX's stupidity and ineptness. mention Rolex to any watch repairer and you will see that is is on the nose........lololol

LOL, mostly the dealers sell to the gray market directly at inflated prices, and not the customers!!! no hope for honest customers to get a ROLEX...
