With the 5th pick of the NBA draft the Detroit Pistons selected Ron Holland II of the G League ignite. Ron is certainly not a knockdown shooter and I believe this is a bad fit as of now.

Pistons fan who will be making videos about the team heading into the 2024-2025 NBA season under Trajan Langdon and a new coach.

Pistons are gonna bring back 1980s NBA offense. No three point shooting and no spacing.

What can he do in your eyes? Shooting not the only thing people do in the NBA.

I know I said exactly what you said at 1:52 about shooting - at first I was a bit uneasy about the pick because it’s obviously not a great fit with our current roster, but his ability to get to the hoop and create off the bounce is top tier. He’s a good defender from what I’ve seen and looks to have potential to eventually be great defensively. A lot to like about Ron, a lot be worried about with the fit. Overall feel better about the pick after more time to think about it.

Man as a Bulls fan seeing Matas fall all the way to 11 shocked me, especially with whom ya'll and the Hornets took.

For sure. Knew it going to be some surprises yesterday and that was definitely one of them to me.

Duren’s shooting is irrelevant so long as Cade is the primary initiator He’s usually in the action as a screener and roller and his defender can’t sit back because Cade is too good a shooter to give him uncontested shots And even just in the dunker spot defenders will stay attached instead of contesting and teams are hesitant to put smalls on him because of the offensive rebounding He’s a non shooter but he’s an elite _vertical_ spacer with a ton of gravity. No one leaves Jalen Duren because if you do it’s a lob You can play one non shooting wing if you are intentional about your spacing but not two, which is the problem with Ron and Ausar together

I more or less agree, yeah, but we hypothetically could get more creative with some Ausar dunker spot stuff if we had a true shooting 5.

@@JacobPistons Definitely true. Ausar, Ivey and Holland would all benefit from a Kings or Celtics or Thunder style system where the middle is open for drives and cutters. And Ausar specifically could be used like a center on offense. But that's not gonna happen with Cade since he needs a ball screen to create an advantage and his best skill is processing that weakside defender and making the correct read Cade should probably run a little less PnR and how he gets into it needs to be more creative, but it's always going to be the lifeblood of any Cade-centric offense Although if Cade ever learns to consistently hit Duren's short roll on traps then Ausar in the dunker catching lobs is back in play. And Cade draws two a lot.

what do you think about Zach Lavine to the Pistons?

If it was a true salary dump with assets attached I think it’s something to consider. His contract is just so insane that I wouldn’t give up any thing of value to take that back, because that would really tie our hands money wise for a good minute.

Sadly delusional Piston fans will find out he's Stanley Johnson.
@JacobPistons

I hate the fact that’s a possible outcome with him, but it is unfortunately. Not sure Stanley had the bounce Ron does, but there is a world where he turns out to be a Josh Jackson / Stanley Johnson hybrid and I hate that for us.

He’s a better athlete and advantage creator than Stanley so it’s unlikely he’s that bad, and I buy that he’ll be a defensive specialist if needed (unlike Josh Jackson) but he really needs to be somewhere where the paint is open so he can get to the rim and as long as Cade is in Detroit you’re going to have rim running big

Did you think the draft was like Auto-Zone, you can just go buy the part your need? No, no Bold Warrior. You have to develop young talent. You have to teach them to shoot, you have to teach them to play defence. I bet this surprises you.
@JacobPistons
@JacobPistons 3 месяца назад
I dont think we’ll have to teach Ron how to play defense. I believe he’ll be a plus defender day zero in the league. 4 out of 5 players in our young core are bad to awful shooters and that is concerning at the very least.
@michaelahurt

You can’t teach everyone to shoot though It’s like swinging a golf club. A good coach can help you maximize your swing but there’s no guarantee you’re gonna hit 300 off the tee The concern with Ron is whether he has the touch and fine motor skills to be better a Kelly Oubre or Derrick Jones Jr level shooter.
@lurking0death

@@michaelahurt Wrong. You can teach people to shoot....people who can shoot usually could not shoot earlier. You ever hear of KCP, a young Pistons non-shooter??? He now has two rings and hits 40% from the 3 pt. line. Think before you spout off.
@michaelahurt
@michaelahurt 3 месяца назад
@@lurking0death KCP was viewed as a good shooter coming out of college. Lol. He shot 37% on 7 attempts and 80% from the line at Georgia 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ That's a terrible example. And if that's the case, why doesn't every player learn to shoot? Why can't Russ or Giannis shoot? Yes, for guys like KCP with natural shooting ability and excellent mechanics, they will learn to shoot in time and you shouldn't overreact to small samples. Hence why people are high on Risacher and Buzelis. But guys with bad touch like Holland -- the Justise Winslows and Michael Kidd-Gilchrists and Josh Jacksons -- usually don't figure it out. The best examples are Bruce Bowen and PJ Tucker who were never good shooters but learned to make a specific shot Derrick Jones Jr has improved a TON. But no one actually guards him above the break
