This farm is like the farm I grew up on in the US. Family provided the labor, equipment was maintained and lasted through generations. Some years there was profit, others not so good. We relied on the weather not irrigation and kids controlled the weeds instead of insecticides. My father’s hard and fast rule was never go in debt or mortgage the farm, which is the reason my brothers and I just recently inherited the farm my grandparents purchased after the civil war (1865) and passed down to my father. My childhood was spent clearing land for fields and timber was sold for emergency situations. Cows roamed the wooded acreage as they had done during father’s childhood. Never got wealthy but that was never the point. It was a pretty brutal childhood at times but certainly knew I could handle anything life threw at me in adulthood. This is the content I enjoy. Life isn’t all about competition of who’s way of life is the best. Farmers the world over are of the same mindset. Hoping things work out on your land purchase.

I have talked to a few Russians who are mighty unhappy with the current Russian authorities, call them thieves, and complain that they work a lot and get very little in pay. I told them to start their own business, work as much or as little as they want, and make as much money as they want. But there are always excuses as to why they can't do that. Arend shows us that, with hard work and dedication, sky is the limit for a working man in Russia. Stop complaining and finding excuses - start working and making money.

Russians don’t really buy expensive tractors and things because the more expensive it is the more stuff there is to fix and if they like the simple things they could keep up on their own if they know how to fix a car they can fix anything

A mixed market farm is the way to make a good living on a small farm. Not only potatoes, one can grow carrots, beets, onions, cabbage, radish, peas, sweet corn and many other things - even flowers. One could also build a greenhouse for bedding plants to sell or to replant on your own farm. How wonderful is the is deep, rich soil of the Russian Steppe! Wow I loooooved this video! Such a beautiful ride to this farm, a wonderful landscape and such a simple beautiful village with lovely people. I even enjoyed you filming that smoking bike in front of you. Ok it probably stank like rotten eggs but hey, it is old and it STILL works! Unlike all the modern electronic digital shxt that is made nowadays and that breaks down right after warranty is over. I am wishing and wishing and wishing that you and your family will also grow crops in the future, that is peaceful farming and I cannot stress enough how good veggies in Russia are. No GMO, no disproportional herbicides and pesticides, which means also peaceful and respectful treatment of the beautiful and rich God given soil. And of course, no unnecessary danger to bird and bees and other insects. I hope God will guide you towards crop farming. Potatoes are a wonderful crop, they are healthy and everybody loves them. And there are a million dishes that can be made with potatoes. And if you have crops you cannot sell, you can make instant potato mash powder out of it and it will keep forever and you can sell that too. Love!

Nikolai told about the work of potato growers. I was so nostalgic! In the USSR, students and workers from cities came to collective farms at harvest time and helped harvest the crops. It was cool! People worked outdoors, socialized, and the entire harvest was harvested and sent for storage. It would be nice to revive these traditions! The song for the video is just about that. these vintage tractors and other machines are collectibles in western europe now. hopefully Russian farmers appreciate that and will not scrap them. it's similar with vintage soviet 16mm film Krasnogorsk cameras that are probably considered scrap in Russia nowadays but sell for up to $2500 in the u.s. (refurbished) as film making with actual film stock comes into fashion again.

Love the Potato farmers willingness to try English, that was a great exchange with friendly people. The farmers are going to speak English before you speak Russian Arend, giddy up brother!

Lots of memories coming back. I work for a Dutch potato company in the 90 and did all projects in Russia. To teach them to plant and harvest the Dutch way. Never been on a prive farm. We farm in Canada and grow 600 acres potatoes. Still lot of the language is coming back too. Nice video!!

I am a former city girl (born and raised in Prague, Czechia) came to Canada as a teenager, and now living retired in Ecuador for the last 15 years with my Slovak-Canadian husband. Watching all your videos make me want to be a farmer, but it is too late now at this stage in our lives.... If I had to do it over again, I would go to live in Russia.... too late for that now as well, we are settled here and my husband doesn't want to move again... Enjoy your beautiful Russia!

После указа Николая I об обязательной посадки картофеля, возникли народные крестьянские волнения (картошку разводили очень неохотно из-за суеверного страха перед ним и называли чертовым яблоком). Картофельные бунты происходили с 1840 по 1844 год. Крестьяне шли на крайние меры - картофельные поля поджигали, а чиновников избивали. По утверждениям историков в картофельных бунтах приняли участие не менее полумиллиона человек, тогда как общее население России в то время составляло 40 миллионов. Дело дошло до применение военной силы, в некоторых губерниях даже использовалась артиллерия. Жертв было много, а сотни и тысячи повстанцев были осуждены, сосланы в Сибирь или же забриты в солдаты. Надо было что-то делать, и решение нашлось. Было использовано такое свойство народа как простодушие и нехорошая привычка присваивать государственное имущество. Власти сделали, как говорится, ход конем - они запретили крестьянам сажать картофель, а поля и государственные склады стали охраняться военными. Но делалось это только в дневное время. Хитрость сработала. Крестьянам стало интересно, они решили, что просто так такие меры затевать не будут, значит картофель - действительно что-то очень ценное. Начались ночные кражи, люди выкапывали клубни и сажали у себя на огородах. Россия вступила в эпоху картофеля, которая длится до сих пор. Картофель не принимали и в других странах. В Европе население тоже было против. В 16 веке овощ попал в Испанию и местное население отказалось признавать его. Некоторое время эта культура использовалась как цветок. Людовик XVI украшал цветками картофеля свой костюм, а Мария Антуанетта прикалывала их к волосам. Дальше всех в мерах по популяризации картофеля пошел прусский король Фридрих II. По его указу крестьяне, которые не желали сажать картошку, лишались ушей и носов.

❤❤❤ See what I mean about him living around a little town that means he can hire people when he doesn’t have a helping hand, which does not cost a lot and most of the people in the village need work and the village looks like it’s doing pretty well it has some pretty nice houses. It has a road and it has gas and electric nearby. I’m sure those are really important things for when you build a house in the Farm.

I watch and like all your Videos but very rarely comment unless I have something to say specifically....
