This is chattel slavery. The best way to respond is whit honesty.. There are several pro chattel slavery verses in the bible.. The people who introduced the bible to your ancestors followed these verses. Be one of the unique apologist who actually tell the truth. Leviticus 25:44-46 44 “‘Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. 45 You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. 46 You can bequeath them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly.

Everyone is a slave( servant) in the spiritual sense. We are either slaves(servant) to sin, which is our natural state, or we are slaves(servant) to Christ. The writers of the New Testament willingly declared their status as slaves of Christ. Paul opens his letter to the Romans by referring to himself as a “slave of Jesus Christ” (Romans 1:1) In Matthew 12:30 God plainly states " whoever is not with me is against me."

@@bereanshalom8676 Skip to 9:27 Question 1: Does the Bible condone slavery? Felder starts to give a head scratching tick before multiple lies and deflections. Felder: "That depends on what you mean by "slavery"... He doesn't actually answer the question... He deflects to God "put parameters around slavery and it always maintained the dignity of the person." This disingenuous, but it gets worse... He starts to outright lie. Rules for beating a slave... God in the Bible permitted slaveowners to beat their slaves as long as they didn't maim or kill them... Because the slave is their property. "When a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod so hard that the slave dies under his hand, he shall be punished. If, however, the slave survives for a day or two, he is not to be punished, since the slave is his own property. (Exodus 21:20-21) ^ Apologists will never actually mention this verse unless cornered and will usually still find a way to lie about it. Felder says a slave had to be free after six years... This is a lie.. This was only true of Israelite slaves and those who chose voluntary servitude... Those who weren't Israelites or didn't choose such as foreigners and women were owned as permanent property for life. "You may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. (Leviticus 25:44-46) Also even the Israelite slaves could be manipulated to become a slave for life and he never mentions this on purpose... Manipulated how? Well here's how... You "give" them a wife. "If you buy a Hebrew slave, he is to serve for only six years. Set him free in the seventh year, and he will owe you nothing for his freedom. If he was single when he became your slave and then married afterward, only he will go free in the seventh year. But if he was married before he became a slave, then his wife will be freed with him. If his master gave him a wife while he was a slave, and they had sons or daughters, then the man will be free in the seventh year, but his wife and children will still belong to his master. But the slave may plainly declare, ‘I love my master, my wife, and my children. I would rather not go free.’ If he does this, his master must present him before God. Then his master must take him to the door and publicly pierce his ear with an awl. After that, the slave will belong to his master forever." (Exodus 21:2-6) He said slaves were like an extension of the family... Another lie.... Slaves could literally be owned as property and passed down as inheritance. He then starts to talk about race here as a red herring... There wasn't explicit racism instead it was explicit tribalism... Less harsh rules for the Hebrews gods chosen people and more harsh slavery for foreigners. Does the Bible condone slavery? The answer is yes unequivocally... God in the Bible permitted and condoned slavery. They largely avoid the question disingenuously and either outright lie or obfuscate.... All while making false claims and never actually going over the specific verses in the Bible. mentioning slavery in detail... Not even once. There's at least 3 types of slavery in the Bible that's outlined in detail with specific rules.... And that's in regards to Israelite men, women, and foreigners.... And if you could guess... each one is worse than the other.... Hebrew men had it the least worst although still bad.... Women had it really bad.... And foreign slaves had it the worst by far. What most apologists will claim while usually never mentioning the actual verses is that the slavery in the Bible was essentially just voluntary indentured servitude and this isn't true.... Yes that's one type of slavery for Hebrews and the rules around it were still immoral. The Bible condones and permits slavery and never condemns it as sin or prohibits it ANYWHEREm This is morally indefensible and you wouldn't support this ever(I hope), but the God in the biblical story did.... Although it was most likely men claiming to speak for God.

"Only through the christian worldview do we see slavery being wrong" (18:02) That is a very bold statement given that the bible fails to mention this anywhere. Slavery - in the sense of a system where people can and do own other people - was never wrong through a biblical view. The only good thing in the new testaments seems to be that the mistreatment of slaves seems to be viewed less favorable than in the old (but nevertheless god-given) law.

That’s unlikely as he’s never called a gentile, Ethiopia had had massive Jewish population for many hundreds of years by then. This also takes place before the story of Peter’s vision that the gosple was to go to the gentles, and such a point is made in that story that if the Ethiopian had been gentile, it logically would have been made there. There may be an argument that he was a gur toshav which there were some at Pentecost so that’s a possibility. But so many westerners forget or ignore the Ethiopian Jewish community

@5BBassist4Christ
@5BBassist4Christ 2 года назад
That word for punished (Naqum) means death penalty. The context from verses 12-32 is about capitol punishment for when one man kills another. Verse 18-19 are about direct assault from one man to the other. In the context of capitol punishment, verse 19 says, "If he gets up and walks around outside on his staff, then he who struck him shall go unpunished (death penalty)." It then gives the standard for reparations to be made from the offender. Verse 20-21 is about a slave owner abusing a slave. In the context of capitol punishment, 21 says, "If, however, he survives a day or two, no vengeance (death penalty) shall be taken". Verse 22-25 is about an assault against a pregnant woman where the baby is harmed. Like in the other passages, this is in the context of capitol punishment for the crime of manslaughter. Reparations are made for damage done, but limited to damage done, "life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise." This is debated on the Hebrew of rather the harm caused is against the woman or the baby. Some translations say "she has a miscarriage" while others say "the baby is born prematurely." The Hebrew word here directly means to depart (from the womb), so the translation is debated. The common theme within these 8 verses is that if one person causes harm to another, they are only to be executed if the victim dies, but they will only pay reparations if the victim survives. Only with the slave do these 8 verses not include reparations for the slave who survives abuse. But reparations for abused slaves are covered in the next two verses. So in context, what this passage is saying is that you shall treat all people as equal. If a man kills a man, he is executed. If a man kills a woman, he is executed. If a man kills a freed man, he is executed. If a man kills a slave, he is executed. If a man kills an unborn baby, he is executed. But if the victim survives, he is only to pay him reparations for the harm caused. This is creating equality between men, women, slaves, freed, born, and unborn.

Because Exodus 21:16 removes the non-volitional slavery, then all that's left in Leviticus 25:44 to be talking about is volitional.

Ecclesiastes 3:15: “That which is, already has been; that which is to be, already has been; and God seeks what has been driven away.” The “natural man” cannot grasp that, for to him reality is based only on the evidence of the senses. The man of reason could justify the verse’s end, saying if it has any meaning then the writer must mean recurrence. The sun comes every day and the moon completes its cycle and the seasons come and go. If we took a picture of the universe today, the scientists can compute how long it will take to return to this point in the picture. So the intellectual man could justify the verse; but that is not what is meant, for it is addressed not to the man of reason or the man of sense, but to the man of Imagination. What is it all about? “That which is, already has been; that which is to be, already has been, and God seeks what has been driven away.”

@@Ladybug099 Of course... There's at least 3 types of slavery in the Bible that's outlined in detail with specific rules.... And that's in regards to Israelite men, women, and foreigners.... And if you could guess each one is worse than the other.... The Bible condones and permits slavery and never condemns it as sin or prohibits it ANYWHERE. As for the rules for foreign slaves... "You may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. (Leviticus 25:44-46) This is morally indefensible and you wouldn't support this ever(I hope), but the God in the biblical story did.... Although it was most likely men claiming to speak for God. (Exodus 21:20-21) ^ Another verse of the many regarding slavery that apologists usually won't touch or ignore altogether because it's indefensible as everything the Bible permits in regards to slavery.

You know the one thing we NEVER once heard in this entire 36 minute interview? A Bible verse. Not one word of what the Bible actually has to say about slavery in a video entitled "Does the Bible Condone Slavery". How on earth can you do a 36 minute interview on what the Bible says about slavery, and never ONCE read from the Bible? I find this telling. I mean I understand why he doesn't because the Bible is pretty clear on this subject. Yes, the Bible condones chattel slavery. Clearly and by definition is does. But to talk about just about everything EXCEPT what the Bible says? C'mon man. "The Bible always maintained the dignity of the slave". Umm, how exactly is that possible? Doesn't the fact that you're someone else's property take away your dignity? I'd love to hear his definition of dignity I guess. "Slaves had to be released after six years" and "a slave could only become a slave for life if he requested it". Well at best, this only applied to Hebrews (and not foreigners, the actual slaves in the Bible). And since Hebrews could only be indentured servants and not slaves, this is almost completely wrong. The only true thing in these statements is that a Hebrew could only become a permanent slave if he requested it. But this is not the slavery in the Bible and Dr. Felder knows this. "If a slave ran away from his master, the slave could decide where he wanted to go". This law applied to slaves from other nations that ran away to Israel. Not to the slaves that the Hebrews owned. But Dr. Felder didn't mention that? All I really heard is that lots of people have had slaves throughout history. And some of that slavery had to do with race. Ok, so what does that have to do with whether or not the Bible condones slavery? What does the Trail of Tears have to do with whether the Bible condones slavery or not? Nothing is the answer. It has absolutely nothing to do with it. So why exactly is this where Dr. Felder spends a lot of his time? Because he knows the answer posed in the Title of this video is "Yes". The Bible does condone slavery. He apparently just can't bring himself to say that out loud it seems. And he says that pro-slavery Christians misinterpreted and "twisted" the Bible, but he never actually says what they got wrong. I'd be really curious at to what they got wrong about what the Bible says about slavery. Because it clearly says you can own slaves. Even tells you how to do it correctly, how much they're worth and that they can be your property. The problem is you can't point to a specific verse in the Bible that says slavery is wrong. But you can point to lots of verses where the Bible says slavery is ok. So what did those pro-slavery people get wrong Dr. Felder? I'm honestly interested. And I literally don't now what Charles Darwin has to do with whether or not the Bible condones slavery. We are so far off topic here it would be funny if this weren't such a serious subject. Or whether or not Christianity is a white mans religion.

@@NewCreationInChrist896 Hi Lisa! I completely agree with you for sure. The Bible is completely against kidnapping. But kidnapping is not slavery I'm sure you would agree? I mean the two most common ways to become a slave during OT times was to be captured in war or to be born into it. And neither involved kidnapping. But both are Biblical. I'm just telling you what the Bible says about slavery. Trying to understand it myself here. Turns out, if you look into it, that this is why slave traders are condemned in the Bible. They sometimes kidnapped people if they didn't have the supply to meet the demand. And the anti kidnapping law was very common at the time the Pentateuch was written. Most nations had the same law. So this passage is not some sort of anti slavery passage. You're confusing American slavery with Biblical slavery. Something I'm accused of doing all the time, but in fact go out of my way not to do.

Something that I wish was emphasized on is the fact that the slavery that the Bible talks about is different from how people define “slavery” today. In biblical days slavery was more like what we would call a indentured servant. Just like Joseph for example was sold into slavery, worked for free until God appointed him to greater purpose. That’s how it was in many African countries especially those who from a different tribe entering a new one or orphans. God is not for the slavery that abuses people and take advantage of them because they have nothing. God had laws in place for slaves in the Old Testament to protect those who we’re slaves. Good example is when God delivered the Hebrews out of Egypt because of the terrible mistreatment. Just like how the Europeans took slaves from Western Africa and mistreated them by putting them on slave ships to die and endure harsh treatment God is completely against those things because he see everyone as equal. There are many scriptures that support this. The term slave has changed a lot from biblical days.

This is a brilliant man of GOD, but researching some of what he said I disagree with. Race or Ethnicity has always been an issue in scripture. The Isrealites felt because they were choosen to deliver GOD's message that they were truly the only ethnicity that would inherit heaven. They didn't like the Samaritians because they were of mixed ethnicity. Gentiles referred to anyone who wasn't purely from the Isreal lineage. So when he said race was not involved it was. The problem with Christianity is that incorporates all ethnicities and Jewish lineage didn't agree with this. And Europeans have taken and misinterpreted scripture to benefit control emotionally, spiritually and financially over other ethnicities

Yes, I see what you are saying. Humanity made it about ethnicity, God did not intend it that way. Eph 6:9 Masters, do the same to them, and stop your threatening, knowing that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and that there is no partiality with him. Paul in Galatians assures these believers that, in Christ, they have been fully united with everyone else who is in Christ. There are no lesser Christians in the family of God. Our earthly identifiers create no value distinction between us in our Father's eyes. Jews do not carry a higher rank than Greeks (non-Jews). Free people hold no greater honor than slaves. Men are not superior to women. No race is a "master race," nor any ethnicity inferior. Gal 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

Color has nothing to do with flesh and blood dust inherited, all colors have the same good and evil by one power churches are scared dust. Secular history reading is flesh and blood blindness we all have till woke. 2Cor 13:5Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

yep, the bible condones slavery. "18 Slaves, be subject to your masters with all respect, not only those who are good and gentle but also those who are dishonest. 19 For it is a commendable thing if, being aware of God, a person endures pain while suffering unjustly. 20 If you endure when you are beaten for doing wrong, what credit is that? But if you endure when you do good and suffer for it, this is a commendable thing before God. 21 For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you should follow in his steps."telling slaves to never seek their freedom is condoning slavery.

Yahweh in the OT had the time to command the people not to eat shellfish or wear mixed fabrics but when it came to Slavery, he went with the prevailing traditions. LOL Jesus in the NT didn't have any time in his 33 years to say "Hey, you guys got that Slavery part totally wrong" LOL

Does the Bible condone slavery? Here is Colossians chapter 3 verses 18-24. Note verse 22. It acknowledges that slaves already exist. Nowhere here does it say to stop having slaves. Nowhere here does it say try to escape your master and the Lord will protect you. Nope. I am NOT condoning slavery. I am simply reporting what the Bible itself says. Again, note verse 22 below. ....verse 18: Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. 19Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them. 20Children, obey your parents in everything, for this is pleasing to the Lord. 21Fathers, do not provoke your children, so they will not become discouraged. 22Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything, not only to please them while they are watching, but with sincerity of heart and fear of the Lord. 23Whatever you do, work at it with your whole being, for the Lord and not for men, 24because you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as your reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

I would argue slaves in verse 22 is not the right word, the KJV translates it as servants not slaves…

The title of this video is: does the Bible condone slavery. So . . . you can't find anything in the Bible that doesn't say owning slaves is wrong; so, you find a black Christian author to say "the Bible doesn't condone slavery." The fact is: slavery didn't become immoral; until, mankind decided is was immoral. Deceivingly crafty much, Childers.?
