When I was Christian I never really read the Bible and I kept having others tell me I need to study gods word to strengthen my faith. Well one day i decided I was going to read the entire thing, and well let's just say It didn't have the result they thought it would. That's when I really started questioning and you know how Christians hate questions they start to take it personally.

I agree that we shouldn't take the series of events literally, both in timeline and content, but where should we draw the line? If the word of God was meant for all people shouldn't it be understandable and relavent to all that are living, instead of being relegated to the knowing few to interpret the word for us? It's so interpretable too. Why does it need such explanation? If the word of God was meant for us it would have been revised by now. And there would be no grey area in the matter. I respect all nonviolent beliefs, but the idea of all this never made sense to me personally.
@PjotrII
@PjotrII 4 года назад
RetroGame.Stream The claims of "word of God" is between wrong and misguided. As you say, trying to objectively look at the text, it certainly is not "from God" in the sense that it would be CLEAR. If God wanted to write a text it could be like: Love each other, help and support anyone in need, care for everyone, forgive them, strive to do your best, help the sick and the poor. I am God, and I will forgive you when you fail. .... was that so hard???... compare this above text to our bible... historical stories about WARs, stories about kings, who is related to who, stories about God sending a bear to kill children (claiming later God is a loving God)... I mean come on... it is written BY MEN - clearly to see. Just as you say, why write (inspire) a text that later require ENORMOUS knowledge + ENORMOUS challenge to TRY TO FIT IT TOGETHER... still not succeeding. That said, I don´t claim there is NO truth in it, however I claim that claiming the bible to be GOD´S WORD is simply false.
@PjotrII

@Sawyer I disagree here with your statement, as in the SAME WAY we should critically look at the bible, we should also look at any other scripture. The bible was written by men, and therefore includes errors (even if some core message would be right). But the same comes to the Quran and any other scripture. Let me just point out a few comments from your own tradition. Under the caliphate of 'Uthman. At this time the wonderful faithfulness of Arab memory was defective, and according to a general weakness of human nature, the Believers have been heard reciting the verses of the Koran in a different way. This fact was due specially, it is said, to the hundreds of dialects used in Arabia. Zaid was again asked to put an end to these variations which had begun to scandalize the votaries of the Prophet. That indefatigable compiler, assisted by three men from the tribe of Quraish, started to do what he had already done more than fifteen years before. The previous copies made from the first one written under Abu Bakr were all destroyed by special order of the caliph. When they noticed there were variants (errors) in the texts, they tried to destroy the variants so that there would be one "right" variant. But the key, there were variants, just already in 15 years. Al-Tabari writes: "the people said to ‘Uthman: ‘The Koran was in MANY BOOKS, and thou discreditedst them all but one’ ". Al-Kindi (830 AD) says: "Then the people fell to variance in their reading; some read according to the version of 'Ali, which they follow to the present day; some read according to the collection of which we have made mention; one party read according to the text of ibn Mas'ud, and another according to that of Ubai ibn Ka'b. When 'Uthman came to power, and people everywhere differed in their reading, 'Ali sought grounds of accusation against him." This is not a criticism of your religion, but a criticism of the interpretation you show, which is a close copy of what Christian Fundamentalists use. All human communication has flaws, we miss the point, interpret or think of something else from time to time, and therefore all communication has weaknesses. This applies to all religions. Peace to you!

@@PjotrII You just made up your own god in your head and wrote what you think he would say. God doesn’t hide Himself, in Romans 1 it says though he’s unseen his attributes are clearly seen but we don’t acknowledge Him for it cause of our rebellious hearts. We know the scriptures are the “inspired” Word of God because they were written by the prophets and primary witnesses and have stood the test of time. Just by doing your own research you can see the accuracy with today’s English translation to the findings of the Dead Sea scrolls and the Greek manuscripts. It didn’t require as much knowledge to know back them but this was written many many centuries ago and we live in a day and age where we can go back and see. Why does the Bible have wars, kings, because it includes the birth of a nation and the bloodline of Jesus Christ prophesied in Isaiah. The Jews (who were EXTREMELY skeptical and careful as to what scriptures they obey even quote the Old Testament many times in the New Testament. Don’t be unbelieving. Turn to God and He will forgive you if you repent and trust in His Son. Would your version of a god kill his only son for rebellious sinful people?

@@alang8071 Mmmm where should I start... ”Scripture inspired word of God” 1) What does inspired mean? If you inspire me, that doesn´t mean that I quote you in everything you said or did. It means that something you said inspired me so that I try to embrace some of that point in my life. (God certainly inspired humans to write about him!) 2) When the New Testament uses the word scripture... which scripture does it point to? Dead sea scrolls (DSS) - on the accuracy... it depends on what level we discuss... in general or i detail? In modern bibles Samuel 17:4 Goliath is six cubits and a span... in DSS he is four cubits and a span Deut 8:6 in modern translations if fearing God, while DSS says loving. Psalm 145:13 lacks ”The Lord is trustworthy in all he promises and faithful in all he does. ” which can be found in the DSS. In two texts of the DSS there is no Psalm 32. Copies of the DSS include 15 Psalms that are NOT in our bible. Do I care if Goliath was 2 or 3 meters tall? No! Do I care if 15 psalms of the OT were lost? No! But it clearly makes a point that the bible is not 100% perfect. Words are lost or falsely translated, verses are added or lost, chapters/psalms are added and lost. We know prophets can be wrong... take 100 of today´s Christian prophets, and I can tell you that the majority of them have false prophecies. A prophet writing something today could be in error as much as a prophet 2700 years ago. I don´t know who the primary witnesses are, but many of the books in the bible include errors (by the primary witnesses). The science or nonsense in parts of the bible do not stand the test of time. Apologetics quote some passages that MIGHT stand up to science if one interprets them ”in a certain way”, while they leave 75% of passages unmentioned because of none scientific stuff. The bible gives the bloodline in 2 different passages, and still manages to mess them up. Either God is confused or humans wrote and messed up the data. Contrary to what you state, I did not make up my own God, that seems to be your misunderstanding or some projection. Nor can I turn to God, because I already did it, and Jesus is God, and I know he forgives me.

The point about the differing points of emphasis at 3:00 is exactly right, but how do you get to the conclusion that there’s no contradiction…? If you went back in time to the final temptation, one of those things would not be historically accurate. A contradiction means that two events could not have happened at the same time in the way in which they are described. That example, would by definition, be a contradiction.

“What is the role of the nation of Israel in the gospel narrative?” There’s been much debate over the meaning of “God’s people” found in the Old Testament as it relates to the church in the New Testament. What distinctions must be made and why did God even choose a nation in the first place?

These people also did a perfect Job of maintaining the accuracy of the Old Testament as to not have it perverted. They are geographically in the middle of the old world, in the cross roads between Africa,Europe and Asia. Perfect for spreading the gospel when the time arose, to easily go in all directions. If someone dies without an offspring and his brother makes a son for him, the grandfather of the baby remains the same (after all the brothers had the same father), so there can be no different lineage, there could be only one person who is different in the lineage. So this explanation for the different genealogies found in Matthew and Luke is a nice try, but eventually it fails to explain the difference.

There are factors that seems to cause these alleged contradictions. 1) The time of the event of account (different time of event results to difference in observation), 2) The details of the observer (one might have not recorded some and the other have), 3) the emphasis of the account (one might have different perspective than the other or a different approach), 4) and lastly, complimentary where the accounts looks different but actually not contradicting but giving more details.

I agree with most of this. But personally, I believe that Luke's genealogy flowing through Mary and Matthew's flowing through Joseph to be more plausible. If a levirate marriage is said to be the difference in Matthew's genealogy, then why doesn't it flow through Elimelech rather than Boaz - where we are given in Scripture that a marriage (not technically levirate, but it served the same purpose) produced a legal line through Elimelech?

Absolutely. I did not mean to suggest that they were not both relevant, nor that the overall premise of the video is undermined if the solution is different than the one he gives. But only that the evidence, I believe, weighs against a levirate marriage in Matthew as the solution.

He doesn't mean "don't ask questions", or "don't read critically" - in fact, later in the video, he tells people to be honest with their questions, and not to be afraid to ask them. (Or of course maybe he's just contradicting himself..) I think he simply means that if you try to ask questions that a text wasn't written to answer, then you won't find necessarily find answers, or if you do, they may not be reliable. It would have been interesting if the convention of the time had been to tell stories through paintings instead of written words. If those paintings were to survive perfectly until today, we could study them and try to decide what the artist meant, and we could accept that they depicted true stories. But they'd also either have to be completely photorealistic, or to contain false information. You wouldn't expect to look at a painting and determine the time of day from the position of the sun in the sky. Or determine exactly how many people had been in that crowd. Or "Zoom and Enhance" into brush strokes. You'd look at each painting and decide what the artist wanted to show you - what information was meant to be conveyed, and what was meant just to set the scene and flesh out the detail, or to highlight a particular point.

But it describes us desiring stuff other people have, or hating people because they're better or wealthier than us as sin. A husband should be jealous if his wife flirts with other men- to not be would show an evil unloving husband. Equally a perfect holy, loving God should be jealous when his people, who have made a promise of following and obedience because of God saving and caring and caring them, whore themselves out to other gods and desires.

He'd want Joseph to be near all Joseph's taxable property, which was in the area of Nazareth.

The book of Malachi says that if you don’t tithe, you’re cursed by God and you go to hell. But the books of Romans and James say that salvation is a gift of God through Jesus Christ, that it cannot be earned so that no one can boast. So which one is it? If salvation really is a gift from God, he shouldn’t be charging us an admission fee to get into Heaven! As a Christian myself, I’m struggling with this contradiction. No pastor or preacher has ever addressed this discrepancy, and I’ve heard and seen hundreds of sermons.

I understand that a single story might have many angles given who is telling it. But I think the way preachers teach the Bible is that it is the infallible inerrant Word of God, a God who does not change. If the spirit gives Mary a word about the son that she’ll have, that same spirit must give the same report to Joseph. This gentleman is suggesting that the complexity of the ancient world and ours are the same and therefore contradictions are inevitable but which is it? Is the Bible inerrant and infallible or does the Bible make room for the complexity that allows one author to omit or jumble up or retell a story in their own way? I submit to you that the style of religious writings in the ancient world have never been about creating a book that fits in the non fiction section, but as a group of stories that have elements of fiction to emphasize some spiritual point. The Bible is not infallible or inerrant but the original authors weren’t intending that.

As a believer I shouldn't have to do this much mental gymnastics to convince myself the Bible is true. Like Job is the oldest book in the Bible, 1st Thessalonians is actually Paul's first letter and Mark was the first Gospel written. The deeper I dig, the more doubts arrise in my mind. Im literally the guy that no preacher wants to engage with. So I guess im forgiven since God knew I would have a highly developed intellect. I also have to remind myself to stay humble. The best quote spoken by a non jew is when Pilate asked "what is truth?" I think I suffer from the faith paradox. I want it to be true but I fear that it isn't. Please pray for me.

absolutely I will! There are so many arguments and people making claims back in forth. I hope you can find a place of peace to sit with the doubts and ask God honest and intellectual stuff. (Including in His Word). I’m really sorry any pastor would be afraid to converse with you that’s not Christ-like at all. But I implore you please Don’t lose faith in Christ because of Christians. Also one thing that helps me with my doubts is that God’s ways are not our ways, that He is higher and more intelligent than 1400 of the smartest men on Earth put together. So it is natural that we would doubt. If we didn’t doubt if there wasn’t curiosity that seems unreachable I would question if this was just a man’s vision for deception since we can understand most everything of man. But God is much much bigger. End all be all, there are answers and it’s natural to have doubt. Without doubt we wouldn’t grow or go deeper in our relationship with God because of curiosity.

If myself and 3 friends were walking in a parking lot and happen to witness two men fighting. Then later we all wrote down an account of what we saw I'm sure there would be some Contradictions between the 4 of us. One of us might have seen how the fight started from a distance, while another might have noticed other details like who else was in the parking lot besides us and between the 4 of us we might not even agree on who won the fight, even though we all witnessed the same event, right? Does that mean that our stories are innacurate? Maybe when they stand alone but when they are all read as one they would probably support and sustain one another because of the abundance of evidence. Sure there will be some discrepancies but let's not miss the forest for the trees. And to be honest if we all told the same exact elaborate story and everything was perfect it would smell pretty dam fishy.

The fact at earliest they were written 70 years after Jesus death from unknown authors. In Greek rather than Aramaic. At best only two can be claimed to come from apostles of Jesus. And the differences are in key parts of Jesus life specifically the crucifixion and resurrection. Who carried the cross? How did Judas die ? What did Jesus say on the cross? Who were the witnesses and their reactions? Who went to the tomb and what did they see? And so on - different versions in each gospel to portray a different Jesus for a different narrative that don’t fit together. The Jesus in Mathew is different to the one in John. It's obvious from this talk that you can't get an inerrant Bible from what the Bible actually says, so you have to mush it around and "interpret" it however you need to in order to make it inerrant. You can have an inerrant Bible or a Bible that says what it says. You can't have both. You choose an inerrant Bible because what's important to you is that you be an inerrant interpreter of the Bible, not that you interpret the Bible with respect for what it says. To you, the Bible is just a way to puff up your own self-importance, and puffing up one's own self-importance is one of the primary tenets of white evangelicalism.
@lierox9
@lierox9 2 года назад
Inerrancy of the word is a wide spread belief, you've just heard about it from white people. The problem is you're expecting different genres of text which have intentions in writing for the reader to all read like science textbooks. They wrote with purpose, tv shows often dont use chronology to make a point about characters or storyline. Ancient biographies can do the same.

@@elmajraz6019 Not a contradiction but a scribal error, this error was then solved through the discovery of the Dead Sea scrolls and in the Psalms within that manuscript corrects the grammar mistake which ended up as lion. It's a tiny tiny scribal error which ended up totally changing the word. Its literally like a dash missing in the grammar. The messianic texts which had this errors dated more recently to our age. Rather than the Dead Sea texts which dated 300 BC, older than the messianic texts. Proving the correct write of the text. This error you talk about is only found in a specific messianic text. The bible states that "God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow". Yet, in the old testament God commanded people to be stoned for sin. But in the New Testament, God apparently has a change of heart and sends his son to die for our sins. Either way, it seems that this God is a masochist.

I think you answered your own question. Sin means death starting with Adam and Eve. Yes people in the OT were stoned for sin, in the NT we should be stoned but God in his mercy allow His Son to die on the cross in our place so we could live eternally with Them. It's called faith. By Jesus rising from the grave, we do the same at the resurrection. So we all live by God's grace because of what His Son did for us. Blessings.

Wow, that's a long explanation to a simple question. Are we to expect that every apparent contradiction in the scriptures needs such an explanation to overcome that contradiction? Why not just admit, that at least to us, the Bible has many contradictions, and that whatever the Bible means by "God breathed," it does not mean without error or contradiction. Inspiration is not simply unilateral (controlled by God alone), but bilateral (through human beings) and God must be ok with that. In fact, that's the theology that makes incarnation (and the Spirit-led life) possible.

Prophecy serves the believer well because the unbeliever understands. Tongues the unbeliever and unlearned doesn't understand which is pointed out in 1 Corinthians 14:21 and the reference Isaiah 28:11-12. Tongues is a sign, Mark 16:17, an unbeliever who is learned in the scripture will see, but an unbeliever who is not learned will probably think these people are nuts... therefore prophecy serves the believer better so that all that hear will be convinced and bow down to the God of all creation. I agree to be honest and real. There are many discrepancies that cannot just be explained away. You need to accept that as fact and not create a false narrative simply to explain it away. Let me give an example. What is the true story of the calling of Andrew and Peter? Is it Matthew or John? Both can’t be true. Here come the quotes: First John a long one for needed context: 35 The next day John was there again with two of his disciples. 36 When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God!” 37 When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus. 38 Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, “What do you want?” They said, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”), “where are you staying?” 39 “Come,” he replied, “and you will see.” So they went and saw where he was staying, and they spent that day with him. It was about four in the afternoon. 40 Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus. 41 The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “We have found the Messiah” (that is, the Christ). 42 And he brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas” (which, when translated, is Peter[a]). Now Matthew that quick and to the point: 18 As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 19 “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” 20 At once they left their nets and followed him. Both cannot be correct.

"Does the Bible have errors or contradictions?" Absolutely Yes! The NASB and the NIV bibles are far more accurate than the KJV bible, except for the NKJV. And this goes for many others. Oh indeed. However there are many errors in those bibles too. IE: ALL bibles have enumerable numbers all over it. Oh YES they ARE there. MOST can't stand that and they will not accept it. I was one of those for 70 yrs. But NO more. They ARE there! Bible scholars have known this for a 1,000 yrs. Do the research with sincere prayer and an open mind; and you will KNOW there are errors galore. But does that mean we should throw our bibles in the garbage? HEAVENS NO! Think about this...If you had just bought a brand new car and on the way home from the dealer; there came up a storm; and it caused all kind of dirt and mud ALL over your car. Now I ask you, "Are you going to throw that car in a junkyard; OR are you going to wash it and make it shine again? HUH?" IN other words, go to Jesus in real sincere prayer and ask him to give you wisdom, understanding and truth; BEFORE you read your bibles. And Jesus WILL steer you around the errors (satan-led); and bring you to the untold number of golden truths (Jesus-led) all over your bible(s). I have done this for the last 14 yrs (89 now), and I have learned more in those years than I learned in the previous 70 yrs. Oh indeed yes. Try it. Remember, that you will never understand warmth until you have experienced cold; you will never enjoy light until you have experienced darkness; And you will never understand the truth until you have experienced the lies. Remember satan's power is second ONLY to Jesus' power... ...Yes, satan is the smartest angel; he is the most beautiful angel and he is the MOST powerful angel (and entity) there is, except for Jesus. But Jesus gives us "free will"; and He lets satan do what he wants to; UNLESS you come to Jesus and beg that he stops satan from tempting you. Oh indeed yes! Thus, satan is the one that "inspired" all writers of the bible to lie; while Jesus was "inspiring" them to to speak the truth. Oh yes. IE... ...Compare Deuteronomy 24:1 vs Mathew 19:3-8. And compare Mathew 1:1 vs Mathew 22:41-45 and John 8:58. Also compare James 2:26 vs Ephesians 2:8 and 9. And I can go on and on and on; where there ARE bold contradictions. Thus... ...2nd Timothy 3:16 is NOT true...but there are many other proofs. Oh yes indeed. Could I be wrong? ABSOLUTELY yes! But all others must bare the same. In any case, Praise Jesus; for He is the ONLY true God there will ever been. AMEN!

So people will always find flaws and contradictions in His Word because they don’t WANT to believe. It’s something that we as mere humans can’t do nothing about. Still looking for explanation that will satisfy me of bible contradictions... Some just mention the contradiction with no explanation... Some give the explanation but when checked, it's doesn't go parallel with the explanation,e.g mistranslation but when i checked,it was not a mistranslation at all...even it was a mistranslation,why don't you gather all the versions,and make a new one with no mistranslation,and order all Christianity sekt to use ONLY it then?? It is now over 400 years from king james bible's first version,now with so many versions,,and you can't synchronize it??? Imagine the people,who died believing the mistranslation for hundred of years!! Don't tell me it is the same,no they don't!! Some sekt use differ bible,even some has more books than other,even some books delete some verse,,even some sekt that remove some book said that this books was a fabrications!! Some give long explanation bla,bla,bla...but the explanation was not parallel with christian faith...e.g : bible written by men inspired by god,but then told about writer ask witnesses,some gave A,some gave B stories, it's okay,but don't claim bible is word of God then,just say it word of man,and yes,man do make mistakes...and it was not inspired by god,it was inspired by the witnesses,inspired by human, ourselves...it is the only reasonable answer for all those contradictions Some said you need holy spirit guide to understand the bible...they told me,first,you need to believe jesus died for you sins...hello,how on earth someone need to have faith first,proof later?? It is a blind proof 😂 Prove to me first that bible is word of god,answer my doubt,only then we talk about holy spirit Some even go hardcore,saying that god make it is hard for human to understand bible,hello...why god do so?? Isn't that god supposed to make human easy to understand him?? Isn't god supposed to give a scripture that easy for human to understand?? If i die then,God ask me, 'why you don't believe in religion i ask you to hold?', so i can say, my Lord, I can't understand your word at all 😂😂😂

Interesting video but - sorry - there is a difference between contradictions and clearly mistakes. For example - I would never trust any coursebook of Mathematics if that book would has many mistaeks, did you? I found dozens mistakes in the Bibile... Could you answer me about these few examples below? 1. Matthew 1: 6-16 vs Luke 3: 23-31 Two completely different pedigrees of Jesus, do not match not only the names but also the number of ancestors. (your answer didn't convince me) 2. Genesis 6: 3 vs Genesis 11:11 vs Genesis 9:29 God determines man's life expectancy at 120 years, other verses says something different 3. Matthew 10:10 vs Mark 6: 8 What Jesus finally commanded? 4. II Samuel 24: 1 versus I Chronicles 21: 1 God or Satan excited David? Because it's a HUGE difference ... 5. Genesis 16:16 - Abraham is 86 years old when Hagar gives birth to a son; Genesis 21: 5 - Abraham is 100 years old when Isaac is born; 100 - 86 = 14, that is how old Ismael is when Isaac is born; Genesis 21: 8,10 Isaac weaned on the day of the expulsion of Ismael and Hagar (in the Middle East children are breastfed for approximately the first 2 years, 2 + 14 = 16); Genesis 21: 14-19 - "put her and her child on her shoulders", "abandoned" to the death of the child, " "God heard a moan, lift the boy and take his hand", " gave the boy to drink". At the time, 16 years old was an adult. Here Ismael described as defenseless children. I will be grateful for the answer.

Was Jesus born during the first census of quirenious or during the reign of King Herod? We know Herod died in 4 BC. His son reigned for 10 year and was removed from the throne. At this time Judah was annexed into Syria and Quirenious was appointed Governor of Syria. His first task was to take a census of the newly annexed Judea province for taxation purposes. We know quirenious was leading a massive military campaign during the final years of Herods life. This creates a real problem. Both birth accounts cannot be true.

Life expectancy in the time of Jesus was 35 years. The first word we have of Jesus existence was Mark’s Gospel, written 50-60 years after the death of Jesus. Two generations! Mark portrayed Jesus with little detail because he never met the man, and he presented Jesus as a righteous man chosen by the Holy Spirit. Matthew and Luke wrote their Gospels about 70 years after the death of Jesus. They, too, had never met Jesus, but they described him in much greater detail than Mark and presented Jesus as the “Messiah.” John wrote his gospels about 90 years after the death of Jesus. He never met Jesus, but he quoted Him at length and described Jesus as God. We don’t have a single first-person account of Jesus, not a single account of anyone saying, “I met Jesus, I saw Jesus, I was there when John baptized him.” We don’t have any account of his physical appearance or any official government records of his existence, not of his trial or execution. The historical record has not one written word by Jesus himself, which seems odd. A fundamental part of Jesus’ mission on earth was to deliver the “Word of God.” It’s hard to believe that God-the creator of the universe-was illiterate. Most of the places that Jesus is said to have passed through in the Bible didn’t exist when Jesus supposedly walked the earth. For instance, there is no record in archeology of Nazareth-Jesus’ boyhood home-until the 4th Century A.D., when the mother of Emperor Constantine, Helena made a pilgrimage to the place where Nazareth was supposed to exist. Helena found nothing but a well over which she built a church, and a pilgrims' tourist town grew up around that, which they called Nazareth. Did Jesus exist? Perhaps, but? And the virgin birth? It wasn’t unusual 2,000 years ago for gods to come down and have sex with human women. It happened. If you think that’s crazy, read the Book of Revelations.

So your explanation of the two linages that are listed in the bible for Joseph is quite interesting. One is biological and one is legal? So you are saying that God made a mistake when he used the word "begat" in these linages? Any honest person understands begat means the biological process of producing a offspring. So He really didn't mean begat, He just used the word? Seems with reasoning like that you can make the words in the bible mean anything you want them to. Also feel free to get in touch with you and your organization to find out what the words mean in the bible, sometimes a dictionary will lead you astray. Might want to change you talks to Sometimes I Give Dishonest Answers. I know a lot of people will disagree with me if I say there are errors and contradictions in the bible, and most will do great mental contortions to rationalize a explanation to protect their traditions. Nothing is proven by scripture alone anyway. That's not enough to really convince anyone. Anything can be written. Talk, as they say, is cheap. If it's really true, there will be other evidence that is more convincing. Moreover, it is the Spirit of the Most High, the living Word, that convinces us of what we need to know when we are ready to receive it. But many don't seek that guidance; they settle for the teaching of man and traditions instead.

Instead of all the mental gymnastics you have to do to commit to the entire Bible being the inerrant word of God...I think it's easier to just look for God in nature. Nature is self-evident, and can never deceive you. Doctrine and scriptures on the other hand? These things are man-made, and can always potentially deceive you. Christians, you don't have to give up your faith entirely. But as long as you insist on biblical infallibility/inerrancy, you paint yourself into a pretty tight corner. Most of Christianity's best aspects came from European stoicism. You can still have all of that without having to commit 100% to the Bible. God is bigger than a mere human book.

There are actual errors in the Bible. But fortunately, they are not so severe as to discredit the notion that the Bible is God's Word. After all, God let man do all the copying down through the centuries. It is inevitable that errors would creep into the text. Since God let man do the copying, it virtually guaranteed errors would occur. And, we didn't disappoint Him...we came through!
