The Death Penalty is about Justice. its not about retribution or vengeance. Its simply the just act for the life that has been taken. I don't agree with him saying that we should not rejoice at the death of a murderer because we should rejoice that a Just God influences the minds of the law makers and we can be assured that as a community we don't have to answer to God about not doing what is Just as he is Just. Remember a person can be punished for their acts here on earth and still be with God when they die. Remember the thief on the cross? He was very remorseful in what he had done and Jesus saw that he was remorseful yet he did not spare him the punishment of crucifixion. HE said to him you will be with me in paradise but the thief was still executed. He had to pay for his acts. We need to enforce the death penalty so that that blood does not continue to cry out to God and also to prevent the community from experiencing further punishment for injustice served.

But as many as one in ten people and death row are innocent. Convictions aren't always accurate. Also, the death penalty is purely in the Old Testament, Jesus to love and turn the other cheek. He also spoke against eye-for-eye laws.

Jesus was not part of their government to decide if the theif should not be punished. Point is, Jesus said to forgive those who do us harm. He didn't say look at the old testament. All of you agree with the death penalty because you yourself do not have the forgiveness Jesus spoke about. Saying I forgive you is empty without action.

If your child commits a crime, you wouldn't want them to be executed. Why would you want someone else to be executed for their crime? I believe Christians should not endorse capital punishment, but we should hope that criminals be punished and disciplined accordingly with mercy; giving them a chance to repent. That means exempting them from capital punishment. And that because we care for the soul of the criminal despite his sin. The one who kill by the sword will die by the sword. It's God's will that unbelievers should implement the execution of criminals but not Christians. Because we are called to be gracious to people. Not to use the sword. Who knows if God won't display his saving power in a criminal and turn him into a saint for his glory?

Listen to your selves, you are openly denying what your religion teaches, do you think that you are more kinder than your God and you have more knowledge of the psychology of human being than God? If God says something that is the law and you not following the law shows either you are a hypocrite or faithless.
@grackle8723
@grackle8723 5 лет назад
which law do you refer to? If you mean the law, "You shall not murder." then you would be dismayed to find that when Moses was receiving all of the law from God himself, God told Moses that his own people were right that minute worshiping a stupid quickly made statue of a cow because they felt like it. Moses asks God to forgive them, he then goes down and literally kills 3000 men who tried to defend it. (Exodus 32) God does not act nor is he influenced by humans so I am not sure what you mean by what you said, but I would sincerely like to understand what you mean. I don't believe I can be kinder then God but I also know that God is very clear that judgment of misconduct of any individual will be had, and death on earth is nothing to an eternal punishment. as a Christian I would say that I am glad the Lord does not hold the Law against me and so I do not hold it against others, but there will be consequences of any action and that is reality. So if a man kills a girl and I sentence him to death, I am not less moral nor am I more moral or right then him. But I will not allow injustice to be unpunished if the Lord has provided me to bear that responsibility. Could you explain your view of this? Best regards

@@grackle8723 I don't know this story that you stated about Mosses so I can't comment on that but if you put religions aside and talk as a sensible person then you will agree that most psychopath will kill again and again if they are not stopped, if a man kills your neighbour, rape his daughter you will feel scared in your own house and want the criminal jailed for life. It makes perfect sense to put him behind bars but at the end it's the public paying money to have them kept their, looked after, feed and other bills while most of them hardly make ends meet. Why should any person have to work double jobs just to pay taxes that are spent on people that will kill him or his children? I prefer my tax money on better education, health care and infrastructure rather than the govt spending millions of dollars just to have these people locked. Religions having public punishments also require them to be publicly, sound brutal but it is to show the masses that your actions have consequences and most young people that will see this will not just be afraid to commit serious crimes they will even report the people that are trying to get them join gangs and stuff - this is why crime rate in countries practising Sharia ( don't expect you to agree with it) have the lowest crime rates. The average killings of innocent people in Saudi.A and Iran combined together is less than that of New York, I am not even going to try to compare rape rates when 1 out of 5 women are raped in the US. Get rid of one of these and 100s will stop - are people waiting for their children to be killed or raped? Even in countries like Switzerland, UK, German, France, India etc they have these problems, why because nobody is scared of the consequences of their actions.

@@Abidkhan-mercury Actually I thought you meant that you were against the killing of criminals who had committed crimes, so now I will try to say more simply, (prove its not sensible if you want). What you are saying is that if a man pretends to know whatever deity he yell at, he can be the one to decide the law? Please, explain to me how every country right now under sharia law is utterly raped itself, famine, war, whole cities are burned, genocides are being committed by the Saudis against the Yemenis. I wonder if you have ever been to one of those countries? I am not saying there is a simple solution, but tell me, what man on earth now can tell you what God says? why do you believe him, and why would you? In just the same way, you say some numbers as if you really know, but I'd like to know where you get your numbers, I know more women who have been raped then "1 out of 5" so you're wrong already, and do you even know how many people die in new york? what about LA and Dallas, my own hometown is near the top, you act as if 100 is better then 1000. Jesus pretty much undid the requirement for the death penalty. He said to love and pray for your enemies, and to turn the other cheek. Justice is justice and we are concerned with God’s justice. Race has no part of justice. Black , White or any shade in between. All will stand before our Lord Jesus and then be judged as to where we will , individually spend eternity. Don’t ever be afraid of the First Death. That comes to all. Don’t ever put yourself in the position of denial that will ensure that all of eternity is spent in darkness. Away from His glorious light and love.

@@Outmageous NOPE. You're not reading the ENTIRE BIBLE My friend, but only cherry picking passages from the OLD Testament. IF what you say is TRUE that the death penalty ended in the OLD Testament, WHY then, did Yeshua REITERATED some OT IN THE NEW as to be carried out, denouncing those who don't, when He said ... Mark 7:5-13 (WEB) The Pharisees and the scribes asked him, “Why don’t your disciples walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat their bread with unwashed hands?” He answered them, “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, ‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. But they worship me in vain, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ “For you set aside the commandment of God, and hold tightly to the tradition of men-the washing of pitchers and cups, and you do many other such things.” He said to them, “Full well do you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition. For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother;’and, ‘He who speaks evil of father or mother, let him be PUT TO DEATH.’ But you say, ‘If a man tells his father or his mother, “Whatever profit you might have received from me is Corban,”’” that is to say, given to God, “then you no longer allow him to do anything for his father or his mother, making void the word of God by your tradition, which you have handed down. You do MANY things like this.” Luke 17:1-2 (WEB) He said to the disciples, “It is impossible that no occasions of stumbling should come, but woe to him through whom they come! It would be better for him if a MILLSTONE WERE HUNG AROUND HIS NECK, and he were thrown into the sea, rather than that he should cause one of these little ones to stumble. ALL THE WAY TILL HE RETURNS TO EARTH when He rules the nations with a ROD OF IRON. On one of HIS Parables, He made this FACT clear, when He said--- Luke 19:27 (WEB) But bring those enemies of mine who didn’t want me to reign over them here, and KILL THEM BEFORE ME.’” Revelation 2:22-23 (WEB) Behold, I will throw her into a bed, and those who commit adultery with her into great oppression, unless they repent of her works. I WILL KILL HER CHILDREN with Death, and all the assemblies will know that I am he who searches the minds and hearts. I will give to each one of you according to your deeds. Never heard these passages read from the cherry picking preachers from the pulpit before? Now you know. NOW why would Yeshua EVEN BOTHER to utter those death penalty phrases in the NEW Testament IF He thinks death penalty only applies in the OLD? FAR FROM IT! Making it CLEAR to us that the death penalty on the OT wasn't abolished in the NT why? Because YESHUA didn't say --- I came to abolish the death penalty law in the OT but--- Matthew 5:17-19 (WEB) “DON'T think that I came to destroy the law or the prophets. I didn’t come to destroy, but to fulfill. For most certainly, I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away, not even one smallest letteror one tiny pen strokeshall in any way pass away from the law, until all things are accomplished. Whoever, therefore, shall break one of these least commandments, and teach others to do so, shall be called least in the Kingdom of Heaven; but whoever shall do and teach them shall be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven. This is WHY Paul, in the NEW Testament said that even Christians should submit to secular authorities BECAUSE--- Romans 13:2-4 (WEB) ...he who resists the authority withstands the ordinance of God; and those who withstand will receive to themselves judgment. For rulers are not a terror to the good work, but to the evil. Do you desire to have no fear of the authority? Do that which is good, and you will have praise from the authority, for he is a servant of God to you for good. But if you do that which is evil, be afraid, for he doesn’t bear THE SWORD in vain; for he is a servant of God, an avenger for wrath to him who does evil. On that message he mentioned a SWORD. What do you think that STANDS for? If you say it implies death penalty for lawbreakers, you're right JUST LIKE Islamic countries IRONICALLY, bear the sword to lawbreakers. Ironically I say, because they follow GOD's commands in the BIBLE more, than PROFESSING CHRISTIANS who follow MAN'S laws MORE than their GOD's, in their judicial system. Pathetic. IF Christian in their countries follow GOD's laws (not just believe in GOD) but follow HIS LAWS in the BIBLE from Old to New, AS GOD WANTS IT TO (Joshua 1:8) then their country should be A CHRISTIAN THEOCRACY just like obedient Muslims to their Quran are an ISLAMIC THEOCRACY in their countries, and NOT a DEMOCRACY which is SIMPLY PUT, mans LAWS is over GODS Commandments---no wonder why IMMORTALITY, SAME SEX MARRIAGES AND IDOLATRY is rampant in those nations, because the pissidents follow MANS imperfect laws, rules and policies MORE than GOD's. And now they MOURN and COMPLAIN why their country(-ies) are in such a mess? BECAUSE they think THEIR "demoNcratic laws" are superior to GOD's. They think they can lessen crime rates by abolishing the death penalty AS GOD DEMANDS IN BOTH OLD AND NEW, but reality check tells us, the OPPOSITE is true. IN FACT one of the reasons why criminality is rampant and men are spoiled to break the law is because THE PENALTY for crime is not executed immediately, as we can read on ... Ecclesiastes 8:11 (WEB) Because SENTENCE against an evil work is not EXECUTED SPEEDILY, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil. And that's the TRUTH based on The BIBLE and OBSERVATION on REALITY, that will set you free.

The death penalty is right. He did answer the question, but his points the down played the truth. This is because he started talking about the wrongful whom were pit to death. It happened too Jesus Christ and the apostles, so it will and can happen to you. He for got that scripture. Oh! They were christians for real. The problem is many of these speakers let their emotions get in the way. That is why you do not get straight answers. The Bible is very easy too comprehend. We make it hard. I agree. The bible is a lot simpler than we make it out to be. If the person is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, then the death penalty is only just. If we are going to abolish or compromise on the bible only to fit out moral standard then we are not for the bible at all. It's either we're all in or not. Whether we agree with it or not or whether it makes us feel good or not. Just bc someone isn't for the death penalty, doesn't mean the bible isn't. Our feelings and opinions can't change the bible.

Benjamin Alexander you are missing one key word though. “IF”....He says “For IF I am an offender, or have committed anything deserving of death, I do not object to dying.” He says this because he knows he did nothing wrong. That’s the difference and that’s why he said that. He’s not admitting to anything nor saying it’s ok at all. The death penalty is not justice, it’s vengeance. Plain and simple.

Punishment is actually not a very effective teacher! It may teach people not to do something, but at a great cost to their spiritual progress and ability to Love themselves, to Love life and to Love others; which is the ultimate lesson. Those who receive punishment are full of shame, anger and resentment; and this is a hell they must learn to release themselves from. Because punishment leads to further sinful entrenchment and misery, it's ultimately counterproductive to spiritual progress. Punishment is man's way to remedy crimes and mistakes! And humankind has yet to recognize its ineffectiveness. Punishment perpetuates pain and negativity, and does nothing to heal it. All crimes, mistakes and suffering are caused by our "sinful nature." So the solution is not to entrench people further into their sin by punishing them, but to give them what might help them see that they are not sinners. Love is what heals and brings people out of their "sinful nature," and nothing else. Love, acceptance, kindness, compassion and attention; these are the balms that heal.

@@mr.d.572 It must be understood that down the centuries - people perceived that facets of human behavior were detrimental to the welfare of others. They witnessed killing - stealing another's wife and possessions - causing much pain and grief in the community - making life difficult and at times - intolerable. It was reasoned that surely this behavior must be contrary to the will of "God". They gave this behavior the name of "sin" and termed it "evil". Eventually - the Prophets reasoned that such aberrant behavior must emanate from an "evil" force opposed to "God" and they called it "Satan". The Prophets threatened and punished each other in the belief that "sins" were evil and that "God" would punish men for their wrongdoing against each other. This behavior is practiced to this day in the churches. Ministers try to control people by fear. THE CONCEPT OF "SIN" against God - the Eternal and infinitely Mighty Creator - was a clever and powerful method of controlling other people! Church beliefs are a tragic travesty of all that Jesus tried to teach. Moses first enshrined the belief in "sin" and "punishment" in the form of the Ten Commandments. Moses said that they were given to him by "God" and that if the Israelites broke them - they would have to suffer the penalty - in some cases - this meant death by stoning. They were taught that by breaking the Laws - the Israelites would be sinning against "God". The exact truth is - Moses went to the mountain to pray for a means by which to control the unruly Israelites. In answer to this prayer - the Ten Commandments were inspirationally given to him to help him in his task of bringing the Israelites safely through their desert sojourn with the least degree of trouble-making. Christians are happy to accept and wholeheartedly believe that "God" reputedly instructed Moses to engage in aggressive procedures and massacres when conquering the "promised land". A beautiful and productive land was callously grabbed from hard working people who were slain in their thousands. This was regarded as the right thing to do since "God" had promised them a beautiful land in which to settle. To this day - Christians believe that since "God" spoke to Moses - it must be "God" who decreed the ensuing bloodshed. There are many similar horrific descriptions of war and bloodshed in the Bible considered permissible - just and right - because it was believed that "God" had instructed them to go to war - against Gentiles. Can you not see in the history of the Jews - the rampant EGO-DRIVE in which even "God" is "used" to exempt them from blame? In the moment of self-aggrandizement - it became permissible and equitable to ignore the Ten Commandments and indulge in wholesale massacre. They believed no sin was involved because the killing had been ordained by "God". What a "God"! Can you not also perceive why it was necessary for Jesus to be born to live among the Jews in an effort to help them see that their traditional beliefs and practices were all contrary to the very Nature of GOD who had truly given them being? Since then - down the centuries - men have battled with the concept of "sin" and many sincere people have grieved concerning the way they offend "God" and they beg for forgiveness. Long ago - they sacrificed animals beyond number in the Temple in Jerusalem - to appease "God" and to hopefully escape the effects of their sins. Since that time - innumerable books have been written on the subject - expressing grief and horror at the condition of men's souls - seeking ways to change their behavior - beating themselves with whips to torture the flesh and make it pay for its wrongdoing in thought - words and deed - and many of these books have been applauded by "Christians" throughout Europe and housed within the archives of religious institutions. They bind people to Jesus' age-old persona - preaching the "salvation of man from punishment for his sins" by Jesus' death on the cross. These beliefs are physically impossible and contrary to the facts of creation. No payment is extracted for "sin" by any superior "Deity". This is a human concept entirely - and pagan. All blood-letting of any description for the purpose of religious rites is paganism. Christian churches have presented its followers with nothing less than a "glorified" version of paganism. When people make other people unhappy in any way - they are creating their own future "comeback". Not as retribution but as a "consciousness activity of creation". Therefore - it is a matter of urgency that these beliefs in "sin" and "salvation by Jesus' death on the cross" should be strongly combated - and replaced - by UNCONDITIONAL LOVE and the TRUTH of EXISTENCE.

@@mr.d.572 Because without the knowledge of UNCONDITIONAL LOVE - there is no hope of redemption from the travail which mankind is born to endure. I know this statement will bring much offense to sincere and dedicated followers of the Christian religion - and those who have centred their entire faith on the person of "Jesus". But to succeed in ridding yourselves of the humanhood which holds you back from the full realization of UNIVERSAL TRUTH - and the understanding of the true nature of the "spiritual-human" condition Jesus termed the "Kingdom of God" - Christians must turn away from the old dogmas of "salvation by the blood of the lamb" - the Trinity and other false beliefs - and come with perfectly open receptive minds to the TRUTH of EXISTENCE. No other salvation is possible. The true God cannot save us - since - many believe ignorance is bliss - mankind will continue to make the same earthbound mistakes till the end of time - thus creating their own sickness and misery. Furthermore - no matter what a man’s belief may be in regard to "salvation from sins" - this is a human fallacy - since the Law of Cause and Effect is imponderable and an intrinsic - inherent - natural characteristic of existence. We cannot divorce effects from causation - nor can we erase causation and still have effects. In every level of Being - this is Truth.

@@Outmageous The Old Testament law commanded the death penalty for various acts: murder (Exodus 21:12), kidnapping (Exodus 21:16), bestiality (Exodus 22:19), adultery (Leviticus 20:10), homosexuality (Leviticus 20:13), being a false prophet (Deuteronomy 13:5), prostitution and rape (Deuteronomy 22:24), and several other crimes. However, God often showed mercy when the death penalty was due. David committed adultery and murder, yet God did not demand his life be taken (2 Samuel 11:1-5, 14-17; 2 Samuel 12:13). Ultimately, every sin we commit should result in the death penalty because the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23). Thankfully, God demonstrates His love for us in not condemning us (Romans 5:8). When the Pharisees brought a woman who was caught in the act of adultery to Jesus and asked Him if she should be stoned, Jesus replied, “If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her” (John 8:7). This should not be used to indicate that Jesus rejected capital punishment in all instances. Jesus was simply exposing the hypocrisy of the Pharisees. The Pharisees wanted to trick Jesus into breaking the Old Testament law; they did not truly care about the woman being stoned (where was the man who was caught in adultery?) God is the One who instituted capital punishment: “Whoever sheds man’s blood, by man his blood shall be shed, for in the image of God He made man” (Genesis 9:6). Jesus would support capital punishment in some instances. Jesus also demonstrated grace when capital punishment was due (John 8:1-11). The apostle Paul definitely recognized the power of the government to institute capital punishment where appropriate (Romans 13:1-7). How should a Christian view the death penalty? First, we must remember that God has instituted capital punishment in His Word; therefore, it would be presumptuous of us to think that we could institute a higher standard. God has the highest standard of any being; He is perfect. This standard applies not only to us but to Himself. Therefore, He loves to an infinite degree, and He has mercy to an infinite degree. We also see that He has wrath to an infinite degree, and it is all maintained in a perfect balance. Second, we must recognize that God has given government the authority to determine when capital punishment is due (Genesis 9:6; Romans 13:1-7). It is unbiblical to claim that God opposes the death penalty in all instances. Christians should never rejoice when the death penalty is employed, but at the same time, Christians should not fight against the government’s right to execute the perpetrators of the most evil of crimes.

@@bronxmosthated1 Alright. Specifically, regarding “pro life”, my wife has somewhat recently begun labeling herself as an “abolitionist”, rather than using the pro life label, as virtually all of the secular pro life movement, and sadly even most of the faith based as well, consider themselves against abortion but with exceptions (i.e. for rape, health of mother, things like that). That does nothing more than be a part of a movement that supports the government regulation of murder of unborn children, rather than a full abolition of it, with no exceptions, which is the correct and biblical goal. Yes, abortion currently is allowed by law in our country and virtually all others, but that doesn’t make it a good law. Slavery was also once disgustingly legal, and supported by a great many people. In God’s will and in God’s timing, that unbiblical, wicked law was eventually outlawed, and I pray and wait on God that, by His sovereignty and will, abortion will one day follow. All humans are created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26). Shifting to capital punishment, I don’t want to just blindly say “Oh, well, an eye for an eye”! I want to distinguish between the killing of an unborn person who has no chance to repent of their sinful nature, as we all have (Romans 3:11) and to turn to Christ in repentance and trust, to someone who committed premeditated murder. Again, I go back to Genesis 1:26. Murder is wicked because it is deliberately taking the life created in God’s image. The death penalty needs to be applied properly, with caution, and according to what scripture lays out. A person needs to be given due process, evidence must be presented, and circumstances must be considered. No, two fools in a drunken bar fight, one of which dies, is not a case for the death penalty. A man hiding in the bushes in the park with a rope in his hands, waiting for a young girl jogging alone; he needs to be put to death. That’s just one example of someone who forfeits their life. Ultimately, the second thief who was executed scolded the first one who cursed Jesus as the three hung ; “Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? And we indeed justly, for we are receiving the due reward for our deeds, but this man has done nothing wrong” (Luke 23:40-41). That’s how I lay it out.

Jesus never came to remove any of the old law but to fulfill them. You have misrepresented what these scripturesmeans. The scriptures used are not in the context of removing the old law but simply highlighting the true fulfillment of the law. Romans 17 is no way telling you that the law was evil. For without the law we would not know what sin was. And that's according to paul by the way. So this is not proper use of this scripture because the death penalty is NOT evil. The law is the standard and is never removed. The scriptures you highlighted are all true but do not refute the death penalty. You seem to have the idea that the death penalty is somewhat evil but in fact its the demonstration of maintaining holiness as a nation Numbers 33 35 Do not defile the land where you are, for bloodshed defiles the land, and there can be no atonement for the land because of the blood that is shed on it, except by the blood of the person who shed it. This is NOT evil. You must also change your concept of evil. The bible says that Satan is evil and he was a murderer and liar from the beginning. He is also described as an angel of light. Which means he makes things seem as though they are good even though the destruction of you and me is at the heart of everything he does. Now, your analysis may seem to you as righteous because you mention scriptures that talk about mercy and that stuff. Which is good and true when used correctly, but they do apply IN THIS CASE only because you are using them out of context. Satan does not want you or anyone to maintain God's law and that means executing righteous Judgement. Don't forget that Ananias and Saphira was struck down dead by God for being deceitful and not even murder....was God evil for doing that???? Of course not. We are to maintain holiness in the land and prevent pollution in our land....but we ignore this principle and therefore thats why our land and by extension or world will get worse because of the many injustices for lives that occur. It's not about NOT being merciful but it's about exercising the righteous judgement of God. Do not forget the law was not abolished it was simply fulfilled. The maintains the standard.
