This video will cover the pros and cons of using a keeper with external/real overdrive pedals. Hopefully it's helpful for folks thinking about getting one of these units at any point in time. It sounded better than I remember, but it's still got one big issue with boost pedals. Thanks for watching!

I love my Kemper. I sold all my amps and pedals - no use to me anymore. I'd love to see reviews of Kemper packs on your channel Shane. What's the best Blues Packs out there from Tone Junkie, Victory Amps, Michael Britt etc. Are there great free profiles etc? And what about your own pack?

You forgot to put the pedals in the effect loop placed before the amp, hear you can slam your heart out

I read that the trick to using pedals is to choose a hotter profile than what you would normally use for clean, and then turn down the gain. This is better than choosing an already clean profile for some reason. Again, choose a hot profile, then turn down the gain to make the amp clean, then use pedals.

Thanks, Shane. Yeah, it was something I used to avoid. The Kemper has a lot of overdrives built into it but I was curious to see what sort of results I got all these years later. I was pretty happy with it minus the boost pedals on clean.

I think it sounds pretty good. I really like the Strymon Iridium as a pedal platform over the Kemper

I actually didn’t think it handled the pedals well at all unfortunately. It seemed to sound quite harsh and artificial in the high frequencies to me.I reckon if you want a non-tube amp alternative for your amp, something like the Strymon Iridium or DSM Simplifier would be much better taking pedals (from my experience at least).

Sorry Shane, sounded bit harsh and shrill through the KRK's first and then through the ATH-M40X, wouldn't trust it to handle pedals ☹

Have you tried the Quilter Tone Block 202? Would be interesting to see how that works with your pedals, and compared to the other amplifier you have

@@intheblues I love the real amps vs digital drama. You can have one or the other or both, who cares. I have tube amps and a kemper along with the 1x12 kemper cab. I play at home and have a family so I play at bedroom / TV volume, and in this situation the kemper is way better than my fender deluxe reverb or my Friedman little sister. Those amps sound amazing a bit louder but the kemper sounds excellent at low volume. Man I use a Michal Britt profile of a Friedman dirty Shirley and added kemper treble boost and an actual tube screamer in front, man it’s my go to tone. Sounds very natural. The kemper does seem to suck for rolling down the volume to clean it up, as compared to my tube amps. But yea, I love my kemper.
