Loved this. I'd like to know more about amp settings and why. What are some of budget amps that could be used to obtain useable or somewhat great tones? What would be some good settings for treble , mids, bass, reverb, gain etc.. Also information on something more affordable for guitarist who are starting to purchase effects. Also explain settings on effects and how and why they work and blend with over all playing or use. What would be a few great settings or use of a Line 6 Pod or amp?

Not just in playing his guitar but, in discussing the guitars, the pedals, the amps, the set up time and time again. He is the best. I watch every time, because there's always a new lesson, perspective or story to be shared. Keep up the killer work Robert and thanks Tim for sharing your love of guitar and music!

Love Tim Pierce!!! Great episode and great discussion about gear. Visually (looking at his studio) he has everything, but all that is needed because of his job, but nice that he demonstrated "his" primary core sounds. For me, just reinforces (because I am guilty of buying in to the hype), to stop chasing all these tones and just work on playing and that you don't need all these fancy, latest, greatest gear.

I have noticed over the years that if you get a pedal from a manufacturer and really love it you will normally like their designs. It makes sense. Maybe because they hear things similar to you. Boss tends to work for most. Keeley has always worked good for myself as well as Xotic effects. I never liked the JHS and Wampler stuff much, but then there are a few I do like that they make. However, there are a few brands that release a pedal, and I am pretty confident I am going to love it. Strymon is like this for me, but I remember purchasing the DIG delay just because, and that is the only Strymon I just could not like. Sometimes I think I need to revisit that pedal based on how much I like there other offerings. Thanks for the video Robert and Tim. 😀

I have 2 volume pedals in my rig. One at the start that I use like the volume control of my guitar so I can get varying levels of clean to dirty. The other at the end that I use as a master volume. I never thought about the master volume pedal as a noise gate. I use it most for volume swells and in spots where I stop playing for more than a few seconds, so maybe I did that without even realizing.

Yes. Because for the volume pedal to work as a noise gate it would have to come after the gain pedals creating the extraneous noise.

@DriverW900
@DriverW900 11 дней назад
Cartage (I think that's the spelling) is the gear a company picks up and delivers to the studio for a musician. When the studio guys have tons of gear that they want to have access to in the studio, it could take them days to transport it by themself to a studio, so they hire a cartage company to move it from place to place. They also often rent and sell equipment. I only know from watching Tim's and other studio musicians videos, so if anyone can add or subtract from my statement please do.

8:04 a perfect example of this is EC. He plays his signature Stratocasters into a wah then into a Dumble modded Bandmaster. He has a Leslie button switch that activates his real Leslie next to the Dumble. That’s it! The proof is in the pudding, he still sells out arenas and plays the hits!!!!!
@shawnmcvey7789
@shawnmcvey7789 10 дней назад
Clapton also never got crazy into effects. He also always had bands that were talented enough to update the arrangements of his catalogue so he could shine. People like David Gilmour or Steve Howe used effects as arrangement tools. I use them as examples because most guitarists would argue neither used strange sounds as a crutch.

We are in a great time for musicians of all levels. Whether you are a seasones studio pro like Tim, or an amateur like me, there is a piece of gear out there that will get you that sound. There are clones for everything at nearly all price points. What I really enjoy when seeing what Tim uses for his tones, is a lot of the effects pedals are nothing special. There is a lot of stuff a hobbyist can pick up in his local music store and is not necessarily expensive. When he's using that pricy boutique thing, shop around and there is likely a less expensive clone of it.

Thanks to Five Watt World turning me into a minimalist, the ability to play everything with one or two things was indeed a revelation. The ability to stick with one or two guitars and one or two amps also saves a ton of money. More importantly, selling all the stuff you now are not using anymore actually MAKES you money.
@shawnmcvey7789
@shawnmcvey7789 10 дней назад
It all depends how much you use. I have a pretty large pedal collection but I'm constantly switching things out for fun and every time I go into the studio with band I know I can get all the sounds I imagine.
@ThatBaritoneGuitarGuy
@ThatBaritoneGuitarGuy 10 дней назад
How much you actually use is precisely the thing. In my case, I gravitated to two guitars, so I reworked my setup to ONLY those two guitars. I was also able to condense down to a hand-full of pedals which do the same thing as the cabinet-full. So the stuff I am now not using anymore can sell. Collecting is fun. However, how much of it do you actually NEED? How much never gets any play time? How much do you actually use on a regular basis? Can you condense that into a smaller rig doing the same thing as the larger rig?
