I’ve had my MSR Guardian since 2016. Multiple 3-7 day backpacking trips here in Colorado. Use it for hunting, fly fishing, Wildfire deployments, international travel, etc. Never had any problems or gotten sick from drinking the water it has filtered. Had the common O-ring leak from over tightening. Loosed it slightly and boom works perfect. Best water filter I’ve ever had and trust it 100%!! Yes the price is expensive, but if I’m putting my guts and body on the line with water, I’ll pay the premium. Not risking getting the shitties or pukies on the trail or traveling! Worth the price to me and I stand by the filter
Appreciate the MSR Guardian video. Per your request, please add these two filters to your list to test and make a video about: 1) Wayfarer Water Purifier 2) Survivor Filter Pro
It really depends on how dirty the water is, and if you can remove any suspended solids/ sediment prior to filtering through the Guardian. It's advertised to last 10,000+ liters
I've used the Grayl water purifier in dirty water, and it got plugged up quickly. It still worked, but it got hard to squeeze, and it took much longer. Instead of lasting a month of hard use, it lasted less than a week of hard use.
If the water is high in turbidity or sediment, this will cause the Grayl to clog FAST. If you can pre-filter some of the suspended solids out first, it will go a long to to extending the filter lifespan
Thank you for your informative videos. I had the MSR traveling through Mexico and central America and never had any complaints. I’d like to see a video about the Katadyn Pocket
Great review thanks. Price for the purifier is over the top though. The lifesaver wayfarer at 1/3 the cost and an even smaller pore size purifier as another level above
I’d say anything Berkey related. They’ve been in some hot water lately with that lawsuit, so I’m curious if there is a difference between the filters you can get from Amazon seller vs their own distributors (per the lawsuit). Also curious how they stack up against the over gravity filters. ✌🏼

@@K9River You can create a little container that is filled with crushed/powdered Norit. Norit is a product that filters chemicals extremely good. I used a 5 cm hose to connect that container to the MSR. And also a little tube on the other side. After that the water taste is perfect. Without it a lot of the time the filtered water tastes like shit. Every 20 liter of filtered water i exhange the powdered Norit with fresh ones. Just to be sure. Also i always prefilter the water before it goes into the MSR. I have atleast done 5000 liter with it and it is still going strong. At home i have another one and also three replacement filters. You never know when something bad will happen. If i have to use it for filtering 30000 liter and then still more i will put a bullit through my brain because it means that we are permanently f*cked. And i also do not want to use it without an external charchoil filter against chemicals. People pee a lot of medicines out of themselfs. And also most water is conteminated with pesticides. And a lot of other polutants. Even rain is not clean. If you need to store a lot of water then make sure to put some silver in it. Just throw some polished coins in the water. The silver ions kill everything before it can start to grow. By this method your water never goes bad. For many many years. If it is stored in the dark.
