I'd assume why a shuttle was sent and not a starship was to appear as none threatening as possible

But they could have taken a starship to get them 90% of the way and far outside the Solum sensor range in a few days versus a few months by shuttle. Then easy last bit of travel in a few days. Could have been there or back in 6 months, could have maybe beat the Vindicator if they had taken a real ship xD They wasted 6 months of time by doing it all by shuttle. Why?

@@SGUDistantHope well who's to say that maybe they did start the mission on a starship and at some point (30-50% of the journey) the starship was required elsewhere and Gwyn had to continue in a shuttle wouldn't be the first time a missions been diverted

@@thestanleys3657 Who's to say they did ha Impossible to know, otherwise you'd have to ask why then she waited at earth for several months. Which in itself doesnt work, as we saw her leave for Solum at the end of S1 and that was not months after the main story of S1 ended. She may have spent 2-3 months in orbit for...some reason, then took a 2 weeks on a high end ship...then another 10 weeks by shuttle but...thats all convoluted and no where in the story :P

My kids and I hammered through Prodigy season 2 and we all loved it. Shuttle piloted by Ensign Didinmaykit (sound it out 😉)

I mean, just because the journey there was a long one, doesn't mean it was one long continuous straight flight there. I mean sure. This world is a frontier one, only just being reached for first contact. But this ship could have visited a dozen space stations, trade hubs, fuel depots and meeting points with other ships on its way, right? Not to mention have to navigate around dangerous regions that Star Trek space always seems full of. As a shuttle, I'd imagine you'd not want to spend much time out of established save territories and space lanes, unless you have to.

Star Trek is full of characters spending weeks in a shuttle when the main ship could have warped them there and back in 22 seconds at Warp 7. It's not a big deal.

Deuterium isn't under most circumstances an issue as it in just fancy duo-atomic Hydrogen and that is easily collected from interstellar material. What could be an issue is anti-deuterium unless the shuttle has a teeny tiny converter (which isn't impossible it isn't impossible it doesn't have it either) its a toss up on what makes the most sense putting a anti-matter converter in a shuttle or just carrying all your own anti-mater on board. But this is getting on a in the timeline and I can see a anti-mater converter being feasible on a ship of this size maybe not all shuttles though.. unless they directly connect it into the nacelles or something. In theory they can make very small amount with just decent lab gear too. But yeah I'd be interested to know what people think how small is to small to not have a mater to anti-mater converter and at what time period. Dilithium shouldn't really be an issue either as since it can be recrystalised by gamma rays and typically lasts years they wouldn't run out. It does beg some interesting questions if you fly a shuttle to a planet and park it and leave it on stand by how long will it be able to maintain main power at very low levels with no maintenance ? its kinda implied the Enterprise D for example can zip around at warp 6 with minimal maintenance for months but if it goes warp nine at any point it would need a serious overhaul and re-calibration & some down time. Which is the issue the Prometheus class entirely avoids with it's split warp core and quad nacelles.

What really doesn't make sense is, why was Gwyn picked to try to prevent the civil war, when that is one of the triggering events for the timeline that caused the future diviner to travel back and create her? The writers clearly haven't read temporal mechanics 101.

In the original timeline, the Protostar made first contact, which led to the civil war. They were trying to avoid that by sending a native to do first contact instead, to soften the blow.

@@svsguru2000 But why send the one person, whose existence is depending on that war to happen. That was just asking for a paradox. Not to mention that they already dealt with the outcome. So preventing the war, will stop the retaliation, which means the protostar attack they already dealt with wouldn't have happened, so they wouldn't have send someone on the mission in the first place. The whole mission couldn't have worked without causing a paradox. The federation has laws against that. Of course maybe it was only a shuttle, because the mission was not sanctioned by starfleet ;)

@@elana1463 as I understand, they lost MANY people in that war/event we call the retaliation, which they likely want to avoid... if she is destroyed in a puff of paradox (which does not damage the fabric of the universe in this setting) maybe, a shuttle is the only craft whose creation is so mundane and unnoticed it's disappearance from time does not cause any ripples *(since no one misses it or remembers making it)

@@stanislavkostarnov2157 That doesn't change facts. The person they send will cease to exist if she has success, causing a paradox. Their whole timeline has that as established events, changing that causes a paradox. The federation has clear laws about dealing with such situations that prohibit such actions. Of course, we had precedent with an Admiral Janeway destroying her timeline(and so herself) to save her favorite crewmen. In addition the Chakotay rescue mission was all about not altering the timeline, which is a complete nonsense, if you already have a diplomatic mission right now, to cause a drastic change in the timeline. Trying to both cause and prevent a paradox is a clear sign that someone did not bother to think about the consequences for 5 seconds

It's not a problem, I think. Who should attack them? The people of Solum don't have any starships and we have no reason to assume that anybody would attack the shuttle en route to Solum. And I guess most "big" Starfleet ships are busy helping in the evacuation of Romulus.

Since everything in this time period Is based on slipstream drives, protowarp and using old Borg transwarp conduits. I don't really have much of a problem with the travel times.

Maybe it wasn't just a shuttle, maybe they sent a full ship and just traveled the last light year or so of the approach in a shuttle to avoid alarming Solum by having a giant starship show up in orbit.

Very possible, but they didn't mention anything of that manor. It also gives the question of, what did Gwen do for 6 months between leading at the end of S1 and arriving in S2 if she did take a fast ship. Why delay for months if they did get a fast ship.

NGL I fundamentally enjoyed S2 of Prodigy but as with S3 of Picard (gave up on Discovery) heavy reliance/use/abuse? of existing cannon is a high, just leaves me wondering how they can unstitch it all in future shows etc. When TNG followed TOS, DS9 followed TNG and VOY followed them they all kinda complimented each other and added new content. The new stuff just feels like it's just steeling and previous content tbh.
