And since I'm almost always depressed or in my imaginary world I really enjoy the mess in my room, it makes me feel comfortable, and when I have energy I organize it, it's that simple, I do everything on my own time, I'm not in a hurry, for me the important thing is to feel comfortable. As an ENTP who has worked with some wonderful ENFPs, married an INFP, raised an INFP, INFJ, and ESFP (talk about family dynamics) and who’s best friends are INFJ and INTP (and I taught practical application of personality theory), I have observed that most talk about people being lazy comes from TJs judging other types methods. For instance, my INFP family are very hard working “slow and steady wins the race” kind of people. I’ve worked with ENFPs that are extremely hard workers, just very disorganized. My INFJ best friend is the hardest worker I’ve ever met, maybe to a fault, but she only does things her way. As an ENTP, I do things my way. If I see value in it, I will work extremely hard. Wherever I start with a new organization I get tapped for leadership roles. I could give so many other examples, but I’ve made my point. While there is real laziness, it is often about how we interpret people who are different than us. Unfortunately, certain types are louder than others, so they often set public perception.
@yappysgirl5573

An excellent response, as an INFP I was going to respond in a similar way, but you have said it so well and succinctly, why bother! I work very hard, but am very quiet about it. I feel icky calling attention to myself, and instinctively call attention to the good efforts of others (especially if I intuit that they need it on a self esteem level).
@aprilhelm518

Imo, this is it. When you don't see what others are doing to contribute, it's easy to believe they aren't. Happens to me enough times, and I'm ISTJ. 🤷 As a sensing type, I think I'm more likely to do something physical, like getting up washing the dishes. I also like checking a task off my list and calling it done. Gives a little endorphin boost maybe. Altho I honestly don't care if it doesn't pay my bills or do basically do something as payment for my efforts. If I don't think it's worth it, ultimately, I still won't do it.

@@djdragons69420 Great catch! I was just trying to keep things succinct! My INTP best friend is an extremely hard worker (in fact he’s quite literally a Road Warrior and loves that lifestyle). Similar to me, he does things his way and, if he sees value in an activity, is an extremely hard worker. BUT, if he sees an activity as a waste of time, he will question it, push back, maybe even dig his heels in and refuse to participate! This can cause him to appear stubborn and uncooperative. This can cause problems in organizations that are more about form than function (putting on a Show to check a box) In reality, his best use is to engage my INTP friend in strategy and problem-solving, which is a win-win for both him & the organization.

I can resonate with this, although I don't give most things up so early. But I'm definitely procrastinating way too much, especially when a presentation has to be prepared. I hate it the most. My type is INTJ, but I'm somewhat sure that Te is actually a little bit weaker than Fi. I'm going to use Objective Personality terminology now. Since Oi/Di is correlating to the animal "Sleep", I further suspect that my type is actually INTJ (Ni/Fi) with Sleep first. (Full OPS type: FF INTJ (Ni/Fi SC/B(P)) It explains my laziness perfectly hence many other INTJs seem to be restless work-a-holics. Because the classic INTJ has Ni/Te (Oi/De) -> BS/P(C), BS/C(P), BP/S(C) or BP/C(S). If you don't know what I'm talking about: Check out Objective Personality! Their content is great.

@@legospaceracer123 I somehow agree with Boxed Water here. INFJs don't use Fi so they are less likely to be emotionally driven when it comes to themselves. Of course everyone is unique even beyond personality, but there are specific patterns used to identify types. Being driven by emotions is more likely a Fi feature than a Fe feature. INFJs on the other hand rather prefer the Ni-Ti grip, hence why they are considered the thinkers of the feelers. Some INFJs tend to mistype as INTJs specifically because of this Ni-Ti loop. Perfectionism has little to do and can very well be something Fi values, so it can fall in its range. I'm not here to assume anybody's type but if you're primarily driven by how you feel on a specific day to perform tasks then it's more likely you're a Fi user.
@Multitudes_
@Multitudes_ 2 года назад
Yes, different types tend to be compelled to take responsibility for different things. As an INFP, I feel compelled to take responsibility for things like my inner world, self-cultivation, self-determination, getting the most value/meaning out of life, understanding life and people, helping others understand each other, being fair and ensuring things are fair in general, and a lot of abstract, humanistic sort of stuff. This doesn't naturally translate to a great deal of concrete productivity because that just isn't where my life's priorities lie, though I can expend enormous amounts of mental and emotional energy in areas where other people would opt for 'laziness'. That said, like a lot of INFPs, I can be very perfectionistic and work hard to get things just right when I do work on something, especially when I actually care. It's very much quality over quantity for me.

@@warriorcatkitty There's different ways to work with that situation. One way is to split the task into smaller tasks. What also might help is to get an idea for whatever future you want. Like, make a whole big poster with BS you want for your life at some point. This makes the different things you have to do to get there a little less abstract and more rewarding. Another strategy is to see "tomorrow you" as a whole different person. It gets way easier to do a task, if you imagine tomorrow you having to do more, because you let stuff slike and being angry at you or disappointed in you. There's many things you could do. At home the physical and emotional needs of my children come first, which means the house can become a mess when my kids have problems with friends or school, because instead of cleaning the floors and ironing I will dry tears and listen for as much as it takes to help my children feel strong enough to face what frightenes them. My ISTJ daughter sees me as lazy, because she measures the visible outcome, not the effort. I've learned not to take her critics as personal, knowing how she percieves and approaches life. Instead I try to help her develop the ability to value also the effort, because that will make her social life much easier later in life. My younger is an INFP as well and observing how my mother sees her, helped me understand myself better. I don't know my mother's type, but she always thought of me as lazy and only when I became a mother started seeing my for who I really am. I believe ISTPs have a "switch" they can turn on to access their shadow side and temporarily become an ESTJ under pressure. Most of the time we work with our working memory (aka RAM) and our intuitive grasp of how the world works (firmware?) to handle situations. But sometimes, especially in the workplace environment, there is too much information to keep organized in that way at one time. That's when we can flip the switch and start making detailed lists, meticulously going through procedures, and working crazy hard until the work is all finished. Then we flip the switch off again, and it's back to being chill and easy-going. Finding the motivation to flip that switch is the struggle for ISTPs, because the normal mode of productivity is more along the lines of curious exploration than trying to get anything done. Incidentally, this alternate mode is the reason why it's common for us to be mistyped as J types under stress.

INFP here. I wouldn't say I'm lazy, but I am definitely perceived that way. I need a lot of downtime where I do nothing to recharge and get my energy back. He cannot understand that I'm not like him in that area, and it's still the source of conflict between us and pain for me, even though I'm in my mid-50s. Maybe I *am* lazy. As an INTJ I 100% agree. My family and friends believe I can achieve ANYTHING. However, there is something I was never able to achieve, and that is to have perfectly clean room for more than a week. I'm also autistic so I can only focus on one thing at a time, which is thinking. I also never realised that I like to work smart and not hard, but I indeed despise doing anything that seems like extra work, unless I see the benefits. For example in math, 20% of my effort goes to understanding the concept and 80% goes to hours of math equations, so that I can find all of the tiny mistakes I make. Many stop at the 20%, but I want to have a perfect score and I'm also bored during the lesson, so why not.

INTJ- Can confirm, I routinely say that the only thing worth working on is something that makes me work less later. It's inefficient and a waste to do anything else. I guess I find myself very much the kind of person who likes to close one book before I start another. I like solving problems because every loose end tied up is one less that I need to worry about fraying later. Problems solved before they become problems means I can focus on other getting other stuff done. I've always seen everything as a problem in need of solving, some solutions are easier than others, but if you aren't solving as many problems as possible that just leads to more difficult problems that hinder you from solving other problems. So yes, I work to avoid work, if that is lazy, I willingly concede that I am lazy.

IFNJ: one of the main reasons for me to become "a minimalist" (or more: fan and user of minimalism) was mostly to have less to clean, sort, move. There were times during the last 2 years I prepared food for 3 weeks not to waste time to cook. So I maximized my time to run mostly in Ni-mode.

It's not like disorganization doesn't bother me but I clean my room, for instance, only when I'm feeling the energy to do it. Organizing stuff actually gives me deep pleasure that I can't put into words. But I don't want to go outside of my comfort to do something unless it's about my reputation. For instance, as a student I've always done my home work on time and now at work I try to get things done within deadline cuz if I don't, my reputation won't remain that high.

Good information! I am absolutely, completely an abstract thinker. My counterparts are very dutiful and sometimes that makes me feel bad, then I start thinking too much about how I can catch up to their level, but I can’t. I listen to what my body and my mind need first and formost. I observe people around me and come up with ideas about them, then I research my ideas of them and write an article explaining my theory, then I start getting paranoid. I get sad and write a song or some lyrical poetry, watch Bob Ross paint, grab a beer…oh no, I’m tipsy and now I’m painting. Then I start crying. I end up debating on fb about why the earth isn’t fucking flat! Cmon people. I fall asleep and start all over again the next day, or maybe the next day all of a sudden I decide I’m going out into the world- 5 minutes down the road to the gym for a workout hoping people leave me the fuck alone today. I get back home, binge watch “The Ozarks,” get high and try to read Tocqueville’s “American Democracy,” but fail miserably. I fall asleep and start all over again tomorrow…………..🤣 I totally forgot to clean the house.

this makes a lot of sense. starting at the highest conscientiousness level (at least from my perspective), i have an ISTJ friend whose nickname is "the general" cuz she is very disciplined and gets lots of things done - very singular minded and not interested in randomly changing situations. she went to college full time and had a full time job at the same time. she's also very attached to convention and for her it comes out in being very committed to her work, faith, friends, and family, and her daily routine. i guess she would test very high in conscientiousness. then my sister, ISFJ, and her husband, ESFJ, are also very attached to convention as far as faith, friends, and family but definitely neither of them comes across as driven as the ISTJ. they're a bit more relaxed on their daily routines/habits. i always thought of my ISFJ sister as SUPER LAZY.....and i still think she is lol....but cuz of the info i've gotten from your vids, i can see that at least some of that is because she just really hates change. i bet her and her husband would test somewhat high in conscientiousness. then my other sister, an INTJ, has the same driven, singular minded, rigid routines vibe that my ISTJ friend has but maaaan, if you opened one of her closets at home you'd find out why her house seems like it's from a magazine cuz you'd be buried in an avalanche of stuff. LOL unlike my ISTJ friend who place is pretty austere - closets and all. and of course as an INFP, i'm sure they all see me as pretty flighty but what they don't know is that i'm constantly working on project plans, figuring out solutions to problems, and independent study which frustratingly they don't do AT ALL btw. they always seem super impressed when i pull off something like a bathroom remodel, but they didn't see my mental planning/researching for months beforehand. lol they definitely don't understand my lack of birthday card sending, lack of churchgoing, lack of husband/picket fence/2.5 kids/dog named spot, and pretty much anything they deem "normal." lol and of course, i wish they would stop locking themselves in their obsessive "cage of doody" and friggin relax! lol i score pretty middle of the road on conscientiousness in the big five test. interesting topic - thanks for posting!!

It wasn't until recently that I realized just how much my work ethic relied on my environment, and how easy it is to not recognize how hard I'm working. My INFP friend and roommate who I met through a job last year, recently told me how he admires my work ethic, and it floored me! I've never been told anything like that, but he talked about how even when things were difficult at our job, he admired the way I would buckle down and get the work done anyway, or immediately help anyone who came to me asking for assistance, even actively participating in group discussions. In my mind, I felt like I was acting and being perceived totally different. He finds answering emotional emails from parents very hard, so he tends to put them off until parents start complaining lol.

As an INFP I make a lot of lists, I think it's because I know I won't do the task unless I see it right in front of me (even though I almost never complete my list haha). My husband once told me to instead of making a list, just do the task right away whenever it comes up. My mind was blown; I never had considered that as an option!! And maybe my list-making is a way to procrastinate... thank you for the video!!
@ascesemphia
@ascesemphia 2 года назад
Hello fellow INFP. But what if the task comes up in the middle of another? Some other tasks need additional preparations or are so big that need to be divided into smaller tasks... How would it be possible to just "do them when they come up"?

What if you just… don’t feel like doing the things- fellow INFP
@torres_sarah
@torres_sarah 2 года назад
@@ascesemphia I think, for smaller things, it is better to just get them out of the way and do them immediately (is what I've found). Like making a needed phone call... it will take maybe 3 minutes, but I don't want to do it so I put it on my list of things to do, and since it is always last on the list, I usually don't get it done. So, if it's something short and simple, but I don't want to do it, it's best to just get it over with. Does that make sense?
@torres_sarah
@torres_sarah 2 года назад
@@corimenning3393 I definitely struggle with that a lot!! As you can probably relate, I end up doing things based on what I "feel" like doing in the moment. I almost never "feel" like washing the dishes or folding the laundry. It's basically self-discipline... I just have to make myself do it. It helps to think that, if I get the chores out of the way, I will have a lot of guilt-free free time, instead of having the tasks always looming over me. It's not easy, but it's worth it (for me).

Ok, I'm an ENFP and I know that I have a lot of things to do (starting with the fact that my room is a mess... again), but maybe it's because I haven't learned how to organize myself well and I haven't applied sufficient self-discipline. I feel horrible when I don't do the things I have to do and I also feel like I've tried everything to be more organized and nothing works for me (also my dad tells me that I haven't done many useful things in the house, and maybe it's true, but also the little things that I get to do, I'm pretty sure they are worthless if they can't be of service).

In my family, we all have a different personality type: ESTP, INFJ, ISFJ, ENFP, ESTJ & ISTP (not 100% sure about the last two, but that's a different question for a different comment!). I have to say that NONE of us are lazy at work, we all love working hard at our jobs. But being at home is a different story. NONE of us can keep our house clean and organized. I wonder if this is because we are workaholics and pour ourselves out so much at work, that we don't save any of that drive to do it for ourselves at home? It has become a trait of our family.

Awesome vid!! I'm actually not perceived as lazy (as an INFP)... for some reason (probably since I'm the 2nd oldest of 12... lol) I have a strong sense of duty so that makes me feel obliged to do things that need to be done even when it's not my job. *shrugs*

Makes sense to me! (INFJ, oldest of 5.) As much as personality has to do with our behavior, family environment also has a huge impact. If you grew up in a family where there's a strong teamwork, everybody-pitches-in culture (more common in bigger families), you'll tend to be more conscientious, regardless of your personality

As an INFJ, what you said was accurate. I mean, I know when I am lazy and when I do, i plan it all in head like what I am gonna do after this or do now. But then my mom comes in and she's like "you're so lazy, if you don't study now you won't get marks and don't blame anything else if you get lower marks and stuff". And then I'll be like" mom I have it all planned in my head" . But then she won't understand and just leaves.

One of the most widespread misunderstandings of the essence of the functions is actually about some of their manifestations. It’s the one derived from the mistaken stack which, ultimately (and just like Socionics), doesn’t even know how to differentiate between the two most important things in typology: extraversion and introversion. What most people call “Te” is, at best, a mixture of some possible manifestations of what Jung originally called T1 (which can be Te1 or Ti1), being essentially the same as those of TJ, the directive attitude (especially when it is TJ1 or TJ2): “accuracy”, “goals”, “strategy”, “efficacy”, etc. Not real Te. What most people call “Ti” is, at best, a mixture of some possible manifestations of what Jung originally called T2 (which can be Te2 or Ti2), but being basically the same as TP, the pragmatic attitude (especially when it is TP1 or TP2): “logic”, “precision”, “analysis”, etc. Not real Ti. What most people call “Fe” is, at best, a mixture of some possible manifestations of what Jung originally called F1 (which can be Fe1 or Fi1), all being essentially about FJ, the cooperative attitude (especially when it is FJ1 or FJ2): “harmony”, “community”, etc. Not real Fe. What most people call “Fi” is, at best, a mixture of some possible manifestations of what Jung originally called F2 (which can be Fe2 or Fi2), all being basically things related to FP (especially when it is FP1 or FP2), the informative attitude: “self-expression”, “identity”, etc. Not real Fi. What most people call “Se” is, at best, a mixture of some possible manifestations of what Jung originally called S1 (which can be Se1 or Si1), all of that is the same as SP traits (especially when it is SP1 or SP2, a conscious function of Keirsey’s Artisans and Guardians): “spontaneity”, “impulsiveness”, etc. Not real Se. What most people call “Si” is, at best, a mixture of some possible manifestations of what Jung originally called S2 (which can be Se2 or Si2), being things about SJ traits (especially when it is SJ1 or SJ2, a conscious function of Keirsey’s Artisans and Guardians): “familiarity”, “tradition”, etc. Not real Si. What most people call “Ne” is, at best, a mixture of some possible manifestations of what Jung originally called N1 (which can be Ne1 or Ni1), all being related to NP traits (especially when it is NP1 or NP2, a conscious function of the Rebels and Guides): “ideas”, “creativity”, “divergence”, etc. Not real Ne. What most people call “Ni” is, at best, a mixture of some possible manifestations of what Jung originally called N2 (which can be Ne2 or Ni2), all being essentially about NJ traits (especially when it is NJ1 or NJ2, a conscious function of the Rebels and Guides): “planning”, “future”, “convergence”, etc. Not real Ni.

INTJ here I do get a lot of stuff done. I finish all the things on my to-do list because I know what's the quickest way to get each item in this to-do list done. I'm really quick with this so a job that'll take other people 20 mins, it will take me around 10 mins because I know the most efficient way to do it. I'm not a lazy person. But if being lazy is a scale, I would be the closest I could be to the lazy side in the non-lazy section. TL;DR To take a quote from LiJo "I'm the laziest non-lazy person I know."

As Greek gods and goddesses (as an INFJ, I want+don't want to be Athena) 4. Typing literary characters.(I wonder what's Beatrice's ,from Shakespeare's plays, personality type is.) 5. As Princes. INFP here! Tbh, I'm lazier in my home life than I am when I feel I have an obligation to do something. I'm a perfectionist, so it can take me a lot of time to build up to doing something, but if it's something that has to be done, It Will Get Done. I just need to wait for the productive energy to kick in or to forcefully manifest the productive energy depending on the deadline. I've been a hardworker at all professional things I've done, though. Between school and eventually work.
