Have the roof sunshade from tessories, works great and have used it all summer to keep the temperature down. Easy to take down and fold up, I keep it in the sub trunk. Have just taken it off now that it's cooling and its great to have the natural light in while driving around :)

I put custom fit window blockers on my side windows and windshield so this shade is amazing. It saves your interior and battery life since Tesla's run the AC when temps hit to high (unless you turn this off)

I'm not a fan of glass roofs. I wish they were optional. Tesla should include a sunshade, built-in, like almost all other manufacturers. If there's an aftermarket solution, it's obviously possible and there's a demand. While they're at it, put the damn shift/signal/wiper levers back in the other models!!!

I got a full roof shade for my Model Y and it really helps with blocking out the heat on hot days. I also agree regarding the xcar rear shade, it was a waste of money as you can't see anything out of the back window. It's really false advertising as they claim you have visibility when you actually don't. I used the rear shade a couple of times when I first purchased it and haven't used it since.

I bought shades from Amazon. There’s a silver cover which fits onto a matched white fabric interior cover. The reason I bought one was because in direct sunlight, the top of my head was roasting. Since fitting the screens, hardly anything. The downside is that they’re always there. Teslas have awful AC and the blower is noisy, so overall sun screens were a very useful accessory and helped conserve energy. Buy screens and then tell me they’re pointless.
@edgarchieng2130
@edgarchieng2130 Год назад
It's hot alright when you park the car out in the sun during Aussie summer days, yeah your AC can cool it down eventually but it's still uncomfortable when you have kids in the back seat as the rear AC isn't that effective, so a shade is definitely a must and would have been better if Tesla designed and offered that as an option.

I have regular sunshades on the roof model3. It helps a TON when you have the car parked out in the full blast sun for a long period. Yes you can pre-a/c the car before going in. But i find i dont have to use much a/c (most times i dont even need to use the a/c while driving. Just crack the windows with full tint including front windshield tinted and roof shades. This is while 85-95F (30-35c) outside.

Still waiting for my Tesla MY but anticipating that the glass roof will make it very hot on sunny days. I had previously seen some reviewers say that the Tesla MY air-conditioner was not as effective in cooling as other cars. So I ordered the Otrifowd shade a few days ago as they were having a sale (although not as good as this discount), after having seen several favourable reviews on RU-vid who said the shade does not rattle. Disappointing to hear that is not case.

Nice Vid! Additionally i want to point out that the radiating heat from the Glass-Roof doesn't come from the Sun burning through the Glass. The Sun just heats the Glass up because it's so heavily tainted and this heat radiates, but if you precool it down longer/ drive with AC, it cools down and than you don't feel anymore heat radiating from it! That means that on a longer drive you have no Problems at all, even with kids or dogs in it, and i feel no difference to all the other cars i had without any Glas Roof

I’m 197cms and I can say without any doubt that a sunshade is an absolute must for my model 3, I even tinted over the Tesla tint to make it darker on the glass roof. I’ll preface the comment by saying I live in far northern NSW and not Victoria where it’s significantly cooler, on average. I might add though that I only bought the shade for the front glass panel. I’ll take it off for Winter. I use the Tesla ones, they are great.

Hey Ryan, could you please make a video on phantom braking? Or a short? whatever works. Should we worried about it?
@TheTruePhoenixAU
@TheTruePhoenixAU Год назад
I've never had phantom breaking and I've been driving my Y since September 2022. I've found a phantom warning sound location which mistakes a pedestrian sign as a pedestrian and beeps at you, but it doesn't force break. And yes I have the emergency breaking system turned on, I've just have had it engage, phantom wise or normally.
@AndrewThomson888
@AndrewThomson888 Год назад
I get phantom breaking at least once every trip I take on the M1, that means daily which is a bit of a worry - mainly for passengers. For me at least, it seems to happen when there is an off ramp leading to a red set of traffic lights and I am in the left lane continuing straight. The car seems to see the lights break suddenly, then realises is okay, then keep going. I know now where it tends to happen so I allow for it, the ones I’m not aware of are the scary ones, especially at 110kmh. There was a period last year when it didn’t happen for months, but has increased of late with updates.

I think it is depending on person and where you live. hot summer in Arizona and Texas.. yeah you do need one for sure. also, there is one more option for roof sun shade - electric one: some electronically controlled shade(like sticker) can be attached to roof glass. It is like having tint but you can control of blockage rate.

Thanks for the video. We thought we’d try one summer without any shade and see how we went. We’ve actually been ok. As you say, the aircon cools the car really fast and being able to trigger it before we get to the car is lovely. Finally, whilst the space directly under the roof can get pretty warm, we are all so short that we never get close enough to feel it. 🤣

@kristjansimmul4280
@kristjansimmul4280 Год назад
I could be wrong, but my theory is this. I think having a full glass roof, and no sunshade, is about reducing fatigue. Having a full glass roof allows for more natural lighting into the interior of the cabin. Though the roof is heavily tinted, it still allows more light into the cabin than a non-glass roof and significantly more light than from the side windows alone. In theory, especially during a long drive, if the interior lighting of the cabin is even slightly darker than the outside light, then the human body might think it's nearing end of daylight time and naturally starts slowing your metabolism down ready for sleep. Which could bring about that fatigue feeling. So, having a glass roof allows more light into the cabin to reduce fatigue. I've done a few long road trips with my Tesla M3, and haven't felt as fatigued as I used to get in my old ICE vehicle. I firmly believe this is due to the cabin gaining more light with the glass roof, as well as a couple of other factors. I think one other reason why Teslas don't have a sunshade for the glass roof is to allow you to have visibility above-vehicle in addition to ground-level surround. In the past, I always wished I could see through the roof of my car, just so I had some "awareness" of what is above me. For one reason or another, think how many of us have had to lean forward over the steering wheel close enough to the windscreen in order to look up or dangerously stick our head out the side window in order to look up. The front & rear windscreens and side windows only give a ground-level surround visual, but sometimes we find ourselves driving in environments where we need a better visual awareness of what is above us. A glass roof enables this. So it kind of adds to your spatial awareness and safety. Like I said, that's just my theory. Unfortunately yeah, during Australian hot summers, the interior can get quite hot fairly quickly. Though even here in South Australia there are still a lot of car parks that are open-air. But hopefully in the near future, all these open-air car parks will be covered in solar panel roofing to provide both shade & charging for EVs as well as electricity for nearby infrastructure.

Hi Ryan, this is a bit off subject but I was speaking to another Model 3 owner at a Byo cable charger in Adelaide. He said he does not trickle charge at home as not all the electricity makes it to your car as if there electricity leakage or something. @MarkBrown-gc6hr Год назад
It depends on the accuracy of the current transformers (CT) that are sending the power data to the App Your home energy meter has to be a tariff class metering device that will be a standard accuracy depending upon where you live. The extra CTs installed when you get an EV charger could be accurate enough for charging but not as accurate as your home energy meter that is used to bill you for electricity. It is hard to find any specs on accuracy for EV chargers and their Apps. Also, non linearity in the CT curve will affect accuracy. The CT curve is not necessarily a straight line, depending on the type of CT.

I have the same aftermarket sunshade for my 3 and Y. I do not have any rattle noise at all with these sunshades installed. These sunshades are must have even in my Fremont CA area. We only have mild Summer weather and temperatures, but still on a day that is above 80F, the head feels being cooked. And, instead of using 7-10 fan speed of the AC, we use only 3-5 fan speed now with the shades installed and they save us much energy and, in turn, give us more range for both of our 3 and Y. I also wish that the glass roofs were openable even if they do not have automatic sunshades like other luxury cars do. Tesla used to have openable sunroofs such as the ones on Model S. In the name of saving costs, Tesla remove the openable sunroofs for 3s and Ys and also killed the idea of automatically retractable sunshades for the glass roofs. Cost-cutting is in their plans and Tesla also does not hire enough people for quality control. With the quality control costs saving, getting a new Tesla is a hit-and-miss experience where some brand-new Tesla cars have minimal panel gap problems and paint problems, while other brand-new Tesla have more panel gap problems and paint problems. My 3 has paint problem and interior panel not fitting well problem with some mild exterior panel gap problem, while my Y has almost no paint problem and interior panel fit problem, but does have the rear bumper left side and right side not equally spaced from the side panels of each side. Come on Tesla, do a better job of quality control, you are a 16 years old company now since the day I watched Elon talk about then "the upcoming Tesla Roadster" in 2008.
