Honestly, Magellan protecting Dofy makes a lot of sense. He was always adamant about protecting the lives of the inmates, unless they are trying to escape. If the prisoners could or would just be executed, there wouldnt be need for a prison at all. Killing prisoners is exactly why Shiryu was imprisoned, so him sticking to his integrity makes sense. also I dont think Magellan said the prison flooded, he said: "That one meter rise the other day .... .... Had the prison panicking... How many meters does it take to sink the whole world?" The impel down was most likely dry, but the one meter increase would increase all of the pressure the prison is under by about 1 unit for every meter the prison is tall, which could compromise its integrity in its entirety. Its not that the prison will leak and let water in, its that the prison is literally being squashed by the weight of the ocean.
I agree being a prisoner still means he has constitutional rights. He may serve guaranteed rights of people (prisoners) above the current goals of the government
This makes a lot of sense, and if Doffy explained to Magellan that the thing that's causing all of this was operated by the WG then Magellan would switch sides right then and there.

This should be its own video, might be how doffy escapes prison/execution. Like a reverse Ace situation where he survives. Maybe crocodile even takes him up on the offer but flips it to save doffy and join cross guild
Yeah thats exactly what it is. Magellan thinks its fishy that the government is trying to secretly assassinate Doffy. It makes him think they might be trying to cover something up.
I think the most interesting part of their back and forth in chapter 1114 is Magellan asking Doflamingo, “How many meters does it take to sink the world?” It seems like a simple question but Magellan probably has no idea. But the way that he phrases it seems to imply that Magellan is confident that Doffy would know the answer. And of course that answer is 5m would swallow most cities. Magellan asking that question seems to imply that Doffy knows a lot about the true nature of the world to which Magellan and us as readers are oblivious. I wouldn’t be surprised if Magellan has been swayed by Doffy somehow.

I could see Magaellan being against drowning as some sort of weird devil fruit user solidarity. Or him just being extremely strict about following sentencing orders to the letter. Like the whole... "He was sentences to being frozen to death! Not being drowned!"
Doflamingo's very own Plot-Armor. Why can't they just order his execution. who would be against it? They tried to do execution of random giants when Mother Carmel helped them.
I feel like people downplay how strong and how much endurance Doflamingo has. The dressrosa arc was like the second worst day of his life and he was fighting some tough opponents back to back. In between it all I think he just had a little Power Nap.
Literally though. People say that he got wrecked by Luffy, but they forget that he'd already been fighting Law and Luffy for hours, he had half his organs basically demolished that he was fixing at the time, he had the birdcage going over Dressrosa which is apparently the size of Australia, he was controlling people in the streets to kill others, plus he tanked Law and Luffy's hits multiple times. Luffy had to take multiple breaks and he had significant help from Law and others. If it had been a straight 1V1 fight from the start of Luffy vs Doflamingo, Doffy would have absolutely won.
My theory is that Magellan and Doffy knew each other before Doffy was imprisoned. Like we know Doffy was THE underground broker, so who's to say Magellan didn't use him to get extra stuff for the prison, or for himself (we know the WG used him)? Maybe they already had a close business relationship before this and, knowing Doffy, he would be using that to his advantage to manipulate Magellan into doing what he wants. Doffy is the master manipulator after all and Magellen doesn't really seem to be all that emotionally intelligent. That whole scene with them in the recent chapter where they're chatting like old friends and Magellan is super chill around him seems to be showing that Doffy's got him where he wants him and is going to leverage that to get out. Honestly, that would be pretty fire. Doffy manipulating the wardens and prisoners onto his side to breakout and then basically having a much bigger and more terrifying crew when he escapes. Imagine the chaos he could inflict. Maybe then he could use that to join Cross Guild as well, which would only up the stakes even higher.
I wonder if strong haki is a hard counter against Magellan's poison. Law used haki against a sickness he was already infected with (which still seems weird to me), so I guess haki would remove the effect of the poison as well.
Yeah, but that was a transformation-type effect and not harming Law. I feel like getting your arm melted off isn't reversible with Haki. But haki might be able to prevent the poison from doing anything if used first.
I have a feeling that Luffy would still have an issue with Magellan, since his poison/venom/acid melts rubber. Magellan is literally Luffy's counter (like The Dip in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" is for toons)

I believe that just like the admirals do, Magellan has his own sense of justice, which includes keeping his prisoners safe and the WG is willing to compromise with him on that since there's not many people in the world willing and able to be the Impel Down warden.
This chapter confirmed luffys fruit is just rubber. Nika couldn't be anything he wants. He was always described as a rubber human. The nika fruit is just rubber abilities and awakening it gives you more freedom but also now you can create themes/gags to fit your rubber attack. Like creating goggles when you go mock 5 with a slingshot attack. Thats why luffy didnt spawn a bat. He had to create it using a nearby tree and then the fruit brought his inagination to life by spawning paint and a baseball hat to fit the theme of the attack
Another possibility for why Magellan would protect Doflamingo? To fend off anyone who comes to kill and/or interrogate the prisoner without World Government authorization. While the staff and setup of the rest of Impel Down should in theory make it harder for any opportunistic pirates trying to take his secrets for their own use, the combination of Shiki floating away, Newkama Land forming in the "Level 5.5" tunnels Morley made, and everything that happened as a result of Blackbeard capturing Ace likely convinced the Gorosei that more security precautions were needed. Especially for a prisoner like Doflamingo.
As for the versus, I absolutely agree that as soon as Magellan goes into Venom Demon, it's a guaranteed loss for Doflamingo. It's one of the few awakenings that's shown to have spread to people, not just the environment. If you get hit by it at all, it spreads and kills you.
I agree, although this whole versus is based on the fact that the battle takes place inside. One of the advantages of the string-string-fruit is its ability to fly. Also, not even Fujitora was able to stop the birdcage, so if the fight takes place on Doflamingo's terms, he'll win.
I don’t believe Magellan protected doflamingo from an assassin but rather stopped the assassination order by putting him in solitary so he can’t tell any secrets to anyone. So it’s more of a compromise than direct conflict.

Dophflamino could just turn the entire prison into strings, flood the prison drowning Magellan, then wrap himself up in a string ball and shoot up to the surface

How confident are we that it was magellan talking with doffy and not bon-chan getting info? Cause magellan post-timeskip has a metal horn and a metal wing, Magellan in chapter 1114 doesnt. This magellan has the pre-timeskip appereance wich means is bon-chan.
Maybe there are different factions in the World Nobles- ones ok with him being locked up for good and others wanting him dead- with them using underhanded methods that are indirect to kill him

I can already see the BuddyCop movie Something attacks Impel Down causing a massive riot that leads to a breakout Hanibal blames Magellan so the World Government threatens to kill Magellan for his incompetence Magellan asks for a few days to prove his innocence. He tells Doffy he wont be guarding him anymore but Doffy offers to help him Magellan refuses but then an assassin comes to kill Magellan. Seeing that someone tried to betray him he frees Doffy for help (leaving the seastone cuffs on of course) Then they both travel the world in an uneasy alliance trying to find the culprit

WG figures Doflamingo is contained at Level 6 and might be a part of future plans. Magellan watching him could also figure into the plan to conditionally let Doflamingo out to eliminate other pirates, especially ones with the D. Hannyabel is easy enough to trick with a pretty face as proven by Luffy telling Bon Clay to use Nami's appearance to KO Hannyabel.
Magellan would likely think, Duffy as a psychotic criminal, is lying about the World Gov. unless Vegapunk confirms things Duffy has claimed. Maybe instead of a massive break out , Magellan will turn the prisoners into a pirate crew who will show up in the final fight.
Great stuff. . But What about a sitcom with the namesakes--explorer Magellan and the noble quixotic schizo Don Quixote? Magellan is driven intent on making a straight beeline to be the first to circumnavigate and his buddy is constantly "tilting at windmills" distracting him by both evangelizing to and declaring war on every person (and object) they encounter . . . Magellan kinda sorta humors him up untill they reach Mactan but refuses to go to war agsinst Lapulapu after the king rebuffs Donnie's missionary efforts--when this one instance is the one he should have taken seriously. . . And it leads to Jelly's downfall. . . I Don't think netflix will be optioning my spec.😅

Idk i always kinda figured the although the Marines are PART of the wrold goverment they still kinda fall under seperate flags. If the marines were gonna execute him it would be fine but a public execution with what Doffy knows would be disatreous. But the world nobles or Gorosei sending an assassin theyre not gonna tell Mangellan, the less everyone knows the better. So Mangellan is just doing what he always does, protect the prisoners fro outside forces, and since Doffys assassination or execution isnt like official, hes just keeping his stance.
Ya know if you think about it Magellan is actually quirky enough to be a spy for Doflamingo. I mean just look at his elite officers. You got Vergo who gets food stuck on his face, Pica who has a comical, high-pitched voice, Trebol who gets too close to people's faces, Diamante who denies flattery until it stops, and though not an elite officer Baby 5 who can't say no to anyone really. Magellan and him eating his poison and sitting on the shitter most of the day fits into that quirky pattern so he could've been on Doffy's side from the start like Vergo. That said Magellan is a good marine and warden but so was Vergo til that mask crumbled. If nothing else I could see Doflamigo convincing Magellan to work with him and am convinced Doffy could walk out of that cell at any point he wishes. We all know Doffy is ballsy and doesn't fear much, but there had to be a reason he was so unbothered by everything after his defeat aside from being a sociopath.
The only way I think this makes sense is if the World Government wants Doflamingo alive but it's other Celestial Dragons that want him dead just because of how Doflamingo makes them look. And this would explain why CP0-9 aren't the ones to kill Doffy it's just Underworld hired assassins
For spin-off ideas, I have always wanted a Rocks prequel. Imagine: prime Rocks, prime Garp, prime Whitebread, prime Shiki, prime Roger, prime Linlin, young Kaido, prime Rayleigh, young Sakazuki, young Borsalino, prime Garling. And based on what we know, imagine a group dynamic completely opposite to the Straw Hats. Hell, Whitebeard can be the protagonist, not Rocks. Make Rocks the villain. Or make it like Death Note. Make Rocks a man with good intentions who gets corrupted. I would also love to see that "One Piece from Koby's Perspective" manga that you talked about last year with Koby basically being his own shounen protagonist during all the stuff with Hachinosu.

If he sees his job as Warden/Vice-Warden above everything else, letting prisoners escape, same as letting prisoners get killed, is a failure. Government or no Government, you can have the same reaction. He is the (Vice) Warden, and he failed at it.
I want Magellan to have known about level 5.5, casually walk in and say "time to pack up guys, we're leaving !" 😂 Seriously though, I understand Magellan's position for two different reasons: - impel down is his job, his home, and is smart enough to consider being left there sinking. - as for Doflamingo : no-one below Kong has a higher authority on Impel Down's turf. No signed order, no business. Magellan is pissed enough by Luffy and Teach's break-in to be thorough about that.
My unerstanding is that the Goverment did not inform Magellan about the assasins neither did they order him to execute Doflamingo himself because they were afraid that if Doflamingo knew he was about to die he might have started spouting information that neither Magellan or anyone alse at the prison should know about.
Magellan is the type of guy to do things by the book exclusively which is also why he locked up Shiryu. This isn't just for the workers/prisoners, this is also for the government as a whole. The government going out of their way to underhanded kill a prisoner off the books instead of the prisoner getting a proper execution or trial seems like a huge no no for him.
I dunno, man. This relationship seems kinda toxic and with many strings attached. You can tell it's pretty conditional. That said, it would be sick if they could somehow team up. Clearly, Doffy is angling to get brought up to the top of the Red Line so he can jailbreak and go slaughter some Celestial Dragons when the time is right.
Magellan is a warden, his job is to protect the prisoners no matter what, including from the government. The just, legal process, as we've seen with ace and roger, would be to give him a proper execution. Not sending assassin's to kill him. Magellan's logic makes perfect sense imo
Doffy vs Magellan is just whoever hits each other first, if Doffy hits Magellan with any of his stronger moves he'd cut Magellan in half & Magellan if he toxifies doffy at all Doffy has not defense to block it so he's defeated immediately just like everyone else.
I don't think the assassin's were from the world government, to me it's more likely that the assassins are being sent by doflamingo's underworld connections who don't want to be snitched on.
I think that Magelin believes in the "purifying" power of hell. It's like the Buddhist hells that serve to refine your soul in the reincarnation cycle. So he wouldn't be ok with that being undermined by just killing someone who's punishment is a wasteful life in horrible boredom.
So the issue I don’t think you see Tekking is the fact that the Government needs to be a bit smart with this. Doflamingo is a big time character and news can travel very easily of situations that happen even in hell itself. So they have to make it seem like they did everything in their power to stop an assassin. This means they can’t just send in an assassin to do it easily. Also if it is the logic that Megellan should listen he would kill him. Again they can’t make it seem easy because then people could get suspicious as to why the government would go out their way to make sure he died. It would raise a lot of flags. Also Megellan has always been subservient to the prison and his role as a guard. He isn’t as much so to the government itself but his own rule over the prison. Megellan hasn’t seemed to be on the government’s side of it goes against rules of the prison that Megellan has. Also if an assassin got in and killed Doflamingo then it’ll just be a horrible scenario again. He would want to kill himself again because that means someone again has broken into his prison and then the assassin would have to get away. So another individual would break in, go to the lowest level, kill a famous prisoner, then escape with no consequences? Megellan also makes sure that prisoners die when they break the rules or if they die of the natural causes in their own areas they are placed. Megellan doesn’t allow prisoners to die that don’t do anything wrong if it is within his control. So Megellan follows his own compas of justice as a prison guard/warden. I say it is the fact that his mindset is like this: “All prisoners here have passed the holy judgement of the judiciary of the world government. They weren’t sentenced to death but sentenced to be underneath my watch in this hell. I am the one in charge of them and their lives. I am the guardian and leader of this realm. I pass the judgement in this realm as entrusted to me by the judiciary process by what follows in the rules of the prison.”
You forgot Doffy can make string clones of himself and has awakened his DF. If Doffy were to go all out from the start he'd win pretty handedly. Isolates him with his awakening, Magellan responds by taking to take Doffy. Surprise! It's a clone! Real Doffy chops up the vulnerable Magellan.
