Always buy from a breeder with a breeding license, who let's you meet the dog parents to see the condition and their homes, not sell the pups less than 10 weeks of age and buy from a breeder who has high standards e.g. asks multiple questions regarding the buyer's lifestyle or if it can financially support the pups or know about having a dog such as a dog training.

thanks for this video, my breeder tests for hips, knees and eyes, we met the parents and they were soo sweet, she knows about the breed including the size differences. She answered all my questions, her dogs were in the house and well cared for and obviously loved, i loved meeting my puppy and the breeder let me get into the pen and pick her up and cuddle her. We got the written contract after i put the deposit down, and my toy poodle comes home in 3 weeks. Glad to know i picked a good breeder.

Where to buy dogs

Thank you for the informative video! There are some really good points. I would like to share a breeder’s perspective. I see a lot of people say “red flags” when they have never bred dogs before. We raise our dogs and pups in our home. We used to bring people inside because I felt that way-I wanted people to see how the dogs are raised. After a bad experience and pups getting sick and dying-we changed our policy. Our dog warden who is employed by the department of agriculture to inspect kennels wearing all necessary PPE to prevent unnecessary exposure to outside disease and bacteria strongly recommends against allowing the public into the whelping area for the health of the puppies. He said if a client has any questions about the conditions of a kennel they can read his detailed notes on the state’s dept of agriculture website. As a client you don’t see how painful it is to lose a litter of puppies. I do however have videos of all our living space-from the yard whelping area and home. Another thing I want to point out is the “a lot of dogs” statement. Raising pups is our living. We revolve our whole lives around our dogs and haven’t even traveled to see family in 3 years (will be 4 this coming holiday season). Our report say 25-30 at our residence but that includes males, puppies and pets. We have 8 breeding females. Contrast that with a place that was closed down years ago that owned 200-400 dogs. “Too many” is way too broad of a statement. Also no one starts out perfect! Once we could afford it we purchased our first champion line male. We have a second and we are getting 2 more. It takes a lot of breeding to perfect the breed standard. Still non breeders will listen to that and question it as if we started out with perfection. Even champion dogs can produce with flaws. It’s all dependent on what characteristics we favor. And those lines are no way easy to get and very costly. Rarely do any breeders release their breeding rights. We personally stick with poodles but there are other breeders who like several breeds. That doesn’t mean it’s a red flag. An actual red flag is when there is a broker. They will have several breeds in large quantities. That is because they are a broker and likely selling Amish farmed puppies. You’ll never be able to directly mingle with the breeder. Also you had mentioned not to breed every heat and only 4 times in their lifetime. A dam should be under the supervision of a vet. If the mom is healthy, has enough weight and nutrition-it is not abusive to breed a dog more than 4 times. Perhaps it would be for some moms! Those moms would need a break or retirement. A vet can make those judgments based on the health of the dog. A healthy diet, exercise and social nurturing can go a long way. Love your other points like genetic testing, contracts and application to purchase. I still don’t know how breeders will charge thousands but don’t genetic test their dogs. Love the many questions-that exactly was a recent experience. Our client said that a breeder she spoke to got angry for too many questions. She ended up getting one of our puppies. My husband recently took over customer service. Before it was so overwhelming and I can’t say at that time I could reply to lengthy messages. He is great at that. We spend thousands on grooming and probably ten thousand on veterinary care per year. Thing is you can’t expect with all the costs going into raising puppies and then expect the puppies to be low cost. It wouldn’t be worth it and it’s very hard to have that dedication without factoring in cost. I suppose that is why not many people want to do it.
@poodlemom

Hi Kara! This is amazing! Thank you for kindly sharing your points. It really means a whole lot. The online world is sooooo scary. I’m sorry if the video sounded like I’m generalizing everyone and may have rubbed you the wrong way. But I respect your points as well most especially the kennel visits- which is why I said there are many ways to show your kennel now- such as facetime videos and such. 😊 I purposefully shared general points. Because, I know people have their own definitions. It is up to each of us to make up our own minds. The points also may be idealistic, because I know people will always compromise. But again, I’m just sharing about the typical breeders that I deal with which is why I always leave disclaimers that it will always be different from country to country and buyer to buyer as well as breeder to breeder. This video is not made to judge breeders but to inform and educate buyers of the possible things they will experience. Believe me when I say I know how hard it is to breed and lose a litter; it may not seem like it but I have so much respect for genuine breeders :) I just don’t support puppy millers. Again, thank you for sharing your thoughts because this may also help people make up their own opinions and future choices 😊 Please take care.

I agree with some of your points, however some of your other points will lead people to false beliefs. as for puppy breeders that breed many different types possibly being a puppy mill, I must say we have 2 female labs one yellow and one black and tan we have a female red golden retriever and we have a female part poodle, for males we have a standard poodle and golden retriever. so we do advertise we are breeders of poodles, golden doodles, labradoodles, goldadores, and golden retrievers. We don't have all the breeds at the same time but are capable of creating the combinations over the years. also as for breeders placing pups with good homes it is how it should be so long as you don't micro manage what the person can do with their pet, asking for a no breeding contract or spay or nutured is ok if he dog is rare, papered or inn some way needing genetic tracing etc. for a normal pup I think you need to know when to go hands off and let the new owners live their life with the pup. People take these videos as law and don't know how to separate your opinion with what they need to do and use the video as a guide only. I will subscribe as I believe you truly love puppies and mean only good.

Some breeders who breed multiple different kinds of puppies and a lot of them aren’t mills. Their moms and dads will go to a guardian home and continue to be apart of that breeding program, and then they usually require the guardian home to spay/neuter after they’re out of the breeding program

Hello! Yes I did. Her issue was here severe attachment to me caused by her separation anxiety. She was a high energy pup and I was not able to socialize her properly which led to worsening the issue. Because as time went by she started howling when I leave. When I told the Breeder about this this is what they said, “wow that is so cute. She is exactly like her dad. Don’t worry about it.” T_T This tells me that they already knew of the tendencies and does not think it is a problem nor do they know how to address the issue. Oh gosh. Let what I share only be a source of insights. At some point we all have to make compromises as there really is no perfect Breeder since we are all different people of different cultures, values and beliefs. I hope this helps! Cheers!

Like I mentioned, these are my selfish and biased opinions. If they are crated that way only at night or for specific purposes then by all means do so. I only speak of my own experiences based on what I have researched, inquired and carefully assessed from my own dealings with Breeders. Like I said, this DOES NOT APPLY TO ALL Breeders which is why I ALWAYS ENCOURAGE TO DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH and make your own educated assessments of what you are willing to compromise and accept with your set of values.

So we put down a deposit on a Labrador puppy! Mom is currently 61 days pregnant. The breeder has health tested and both mom and dads hips and elbows are great (full panel of health tests looked amazing). obviously she asked us plenty we have to send vids of our backyard etc. however she has 11 Labradors do you feel this is to many I personally didn’t see this as that big a deal. but it would be nice to hear your opinion! we have reached out to people who have gotten puppy’s from her in the past and nothing but good stuff to say. She has shared ultrasound photos with us and mom and dad pictures and on her Facebook posts plenty of pics and videos of her pregnancy journey. the mom is the only dog pregnant at the moment as all her other dogs either had litters or will be bred in the fall and have pups early next year. She even mentioned trying to pick carefully the dogs that could be bred this year just so her dogs don’t feel stressed out so I don’t think she overbreeds. So I’m probably just overthinking it would just be nice to hear someone else have a take at it.

If you spay and neuter every puppy that three will be extinct I don’t understand why people say this because the very puppies and dogs that we love or even cats that we love will become except if everyone does that unless be clear a person that sells a dog is a breeder I don’t care if it’s your dog accidentally had puppies that dog was bred with another dog that’s just what it is it’s not a crime for dogs to have puppies I think inhumanely yes it’s a crime but is their nature to have puppies if they can
@poodlemom
@poodlemom 2 года назад
Thanks for sharing you thoughts and I respect that 😊. Spaying and neutering is a personal choice we all are free to make for our pets. It’s not having the puppies or breeding itself that’s being questioned. It’s what comes after the accidental breeding. What happens to the puppies? Will they have forever homes. I too wouldn’t care about accidental breeding if I can keep all those mouths to feed and offer them a good life. What if every family has an accidental breeding- how sure are we that all those new lives will have good homes.

Please do not misunderstand that I want every pup to be spayed or neutered. All I am saying is, if there is no need and to avoid unwanted pups, better to make the responsible choice. Or if you can assure you wont add to the problem- then leave them intact. It’s all up to everyone’s freedom of choice.

Hi, I love your videos!! Also, I wanted to ask if you could look at this breeder and perhaps tell me your opinion on them? I'm studying to get a toy poodle in the future but I wanted to find the right breeder so I can get a happy and healthy puppy. This is their website = WeaverFamilyFarms.com I would really appreciate it if you could tell me your opinion. I looked at the website and in my opinion, I feel like they are ok because they share information about how to take care of the dogs and many people said that they really recommend them. But, if you see the reviews, there are only good reviews and only the people who rated 5 stars were pinned/shown. I feel like they are hiding the bad comments/ratings. There might not be any bad comments but it's too strange and suspicious because all of the ratings are 5 stars. I'm not sure. Please tell me your opinion! I decided to ask you because you seem more professional and experienced than other toy poodle owners. Here is the website again = WeaverFamilyFarms.com

What is the genetic health issue of Bailey?
@poodlemom
@poodlemom 3 года назад
She was diagnosed with luxating patella and acid reflux as young as 6 months old. She also had a poor immune system which led to many confinements and liver and kidney issues that we are constantly monitoring and maintaining :)

@@jhennsoasis I'm not saying her parents are not healthy. My vet just said for sure their parents are carriers as they passed down and produced a genetic defect. :) Because she was too young to have her ailments diagnosed at 6 months. I believe I did inform you guys about it before ^^ Hope it helps.

Hi!! I Just Love Your Channel. Wow. Amazing. I am Just 10 years old. I am a Indian. I am A Girl. This Is the video I needed. Thank you ☺️. Will you be my aunty or Sister?? 😂😅. I was going to adopt a Toy Poodle and I did all the research. I did everything. It was still a no no with my grandmother and grandfather. We had a street dog (we adopted it from it street) it was a mixed breed. It only used to love my grandmother. He died in 2016. 😭. His name was Zipsy ( Zip- see) He was big. Toy Poodles are small But They Did Not Understand that they remain Small. 😅😓🙄😒So.. They Said NO!!

Something that is misleading, because I did my research on it, that dogs shouldn't be bred back to back. That is false. As long as they are healthy and recovered well for another litter, it is fine and actually healthy for the dog's uterus. One of the reason vets urge getting a dog fix if not breeding is bcus the progesterone leaves out through the puppies, so if the female does not get pregnant, it builds up in her uterus and can cause cancer and other issues. A dog is an animal and they have two cycles a year for a reason. Thats the way God made it, so they can handle it, unless for some reason they have some health issues going on. You had some good points though but just wanted to speak on this one.pro

@@poodlemom thanks but I have a question about the feeding with the dog because in google you have to first meal to your dog around 7am and I do wake up that early for school but when there is no school like on the weekends I usually wake up around 1pm 2pm. So when I get a dog do I have to wake up at 7am just to feed my dog or when it’s around the time I wake up I feed it?

@@chrrixy7081 Hi dear! No worries! ^^ Haha, I believe you know the answer to that is a yes XD That's why it's called a responsibility, you can be 1-2 hours late but no more than that because if you let their tummies get too acidic, you might get the same problem as I have with Bailey's acid reflux - which can even lead to pancreatitis ( this is an illness that the stomach digests itself)

@@chrrixy7081 Hi! No trouble at all, I reply when able, sometimes late, but as much as I can I will always reply. So uhm, well- you have to deal with the heat cycle 2x a year for a month each time, until you are ready to spay your pup. Hahaha That's all there is to it, really XD Also, I really appreciate how kind and understanding you are when you ask questions. Thank you for your kindness^^
