Great video. I love how you broke everything down into pros and cons with examples. You weren't being judgemental but gave the facts. (Some ppl on YT will explain. Why they hate hate haaaaate a certain type of collars AND give you their whole life story.. lol it's usually very unneeded). So thx again for a great video.

I've been using the e-collar on my Frenchie since he was 10mo old it's the best thing I could have used on him for his training. The way I look at it is that e-collar also acts as an insurance policy - if my dog bolts off chasing a cat ( which he would never do because he's doesn't care about other animals ) into the middle of the road, my only way to stop him from being hit by a car is to use the stimulant on him. I work between a setting of 11-14 but rarely do I ever go there. Just using the vibration is enough for me to correct his behavior or to get him to come. Great video!

I am so happy you weren't negative about the prong collar. I am having issues walking mine due to a change moving from a rural place to a city. I am ordering a prong one now. I feel so guilty about exercise but people are negative on these collars I think..

Just make sure you do all your research and don't be an ignorant owner. Never leave on unattended. Only use for walks and training only. Good luck. Prong collars changed my walking experience with my dog. Before that it was 8 months of painful walks and trying everything from harnesses to professional help. Make sure you've tried every option before you use a prong as a prong is usually not necessity for 9/10 dogs. Be kind. Be patient. Use words and a gentle pop and release and NOT a pulling motion.

is there any collar you recommend for breeds with long or fluffy fur? more specifically just to hold tags since i use harnesses to walk my dog. flat collars really damage my dogs coat/create collar lines and if i didnt brush him as often as i do it probably would create matting..

Have you tried a knotted rope style? They tend to be quite thin and may not flatten your dog's fur, though I'm not sure about it getting tangled, depending on your dog's fur type, it would be fine for a husky but I wouldn't recommend for an afghan hound.

@@MsWildlifeLover i've been recommended it but I have yet to try it! I have a husky mix who has fur length/texture like a samoyed. I'll give it a try, thank you!

If you need a collar for ID that's the whole purpose of a FLAT collar (Aka the regular collar). Flat collars can be made with nylon, cotton, rubber, leather etc...they can be fashionably and have different features but they do the same standard thing of holding your dogs important info and being the safest option to keep on for daily life. (Be sure to remove for crating etc) I have a husky who wears a flat collar for most of his day. I make sure its a bit loose (he can shake and have it move around a bit so I know his skin can breate)..its also thin and like 5/8" width if not thinner.Make sure its breathable and sits at the base of the neck. Look around a bit more there are mesh flat collars and super thin ones like I mentioned. Worse case scenario you can always get a custom made one off Etsy or somewhere similar. .

@@kweenjade01 I ended up going with a slip collar from a brand that specifies on collars for samoyeds/thick+long haired breeds. it's what some show friends rec to me! i've always known a flat collar wouldn't have been a good job regardless as it just gets lost in his fur.I usually don't let my dogs wear their collars all day all the time.. you never know the unsafe things that could happen and just to me i feel like its probably the equivalent of the feeling of taking off your underwear.

Very informative! So my daughter is struggling with her English bulldog. Bout 6-7 months old. Started her on flat collar but she would pull & choke. So now she’s been using a harness w/retractable leash which was great for awhile. But recently she’s gotten bolder and rather than lead pulling she will lag back and pull in opposite direction so hard that she pops out of her harness then bolts! She’s super strong and my daughter is pregnant so is looking for better solutions. She wants to try choke chain but I’m thinking she’ll just slip out by doing the same as harness. Any recommendations??

Try a different harness. My boy can wiggle out of anything, he used to back up and dip his head to get out of harnesses. Now he is in a Ruffwear Flagline, it clips around him three times and there's no escape, he tried to escape twice and realised that he couldn't. Ruffwear can be a little pricy but have a look at the style and maybe find a cheaper one to try out.

Choke chains are not for strangling your dog.

I bought a box of these to give to a friend who likes glow sticks. I gave her several and kept the other half for my kids to play with. Let me just say first and foremost that these are not the cheap little party favors you might think they are. The are legit glow sticks. The sticks are 6" ( amzn.to/3fD1L39 ) and have a lanyard string that can be used to hold the light stick around your neck, or your dog's collar, or to twirl the sticks around in a circle (see video). I got the assorted pack with four of each of the colors - green, red, yellow, blue, white. The colors aren't NEON or FLUORESCENT but they *are* bright. I guess I would say it is a warmer color but still quite bright. The quality of these glow sticks remind me of the ones my dad would bring home from fighting a fire (he worked for the DNR of WA). They are solid quality so you do have to intentionally break them. My kids ages 10 and 8 had to ask for my help. I was happy to know this though, as I was able to keep track of them better this way. I kept a handful of them out to put in the storm shelter (we live in an area that gets severe weather regularly). I have no doubt these will come in handy in the dark or in the event of power loss. Great purchase, would purchase them again....my kids will see to it.
