By far the best video about tools. Not needed but they do expedite. My dog knew all comands by age 3.5 without food. So when I added the collar around 4.5 he was on point. Everyone was so surprised where ever I went

My youngest dog Mimosa she is a mix ( Shepard and pitbull I believe) and she’s extremely dominant dog to the point where she is aggressive. She has harmed other dogs and fights for dominance when ever she meets a new dog, this all happened when she was a young puppy to a year old. We trained her to stop attacking other dogs. She’s an extremely smart dog tho ( can turn on the hose, open doors, sneaky, remembers how to open cage doors etc) is it because she’s so smart and dominant that she acts that way? She’s never harmed a human and loves me and my husband. But she is the dominant dog compared to our other dogs.

Tom LOVE your vids, one request is there anyway to use a volume leveler on your vids to accomplish a couple of things, first we can't really hear anyone but you. And your volume peaks high as does any barking and over modulates. Another e.g. the bumper music is quite loud, so I have to turn it way down to start, then turn it way up to hear you (still hard to hear others) then waaaaay back down when the music comes back on at the end. It should be built in to your editing software. PLEASE KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK BROTHER #NOBADDOGS

My 7 month old lab lets anyone take anything from her. I started from day one practicing taking and giving her toys, bones etc. I have young grandchildren. I didn’t want to take any chances. She knows her basic obedience commands. She does them every day. Will she get more focused and quicker as she gets older?

I believe and trust in good trainers such as you as you all most certainly are qualified and your devotion and care of our fur family members well-being is astonishing. Not only you teach us better ways of communication but you restore if it was lost somehow, our functionality as a whole, as a family! That is a fact. Although in my opinion (personal and not in any way professional) I do believe aversive methods do work but using positive reinforcement builds a much stronger bond between all parties however long it takes. There are times when these fail and we are disappointed, not knowing what else to try, but could it be us not providing time enough for the results of positive reinforcement to really start working? I have seen it happening in some people of my environment and I was wondering if we could rely more if not in all cases on positive methods. I do not mean any disrespect in every trainers work, I admire all of you and trust you are giving your best. I simply was wondering. Hope you enjoy your evening and keep up your good work, families rely on you and in some you are a gift for them as you may be their only chance of enjoying their life together!

Resource guarding like you said isn't black or white. My dog- 100lb tosa from a dog meat farm is a resource guarder. He was terrified of everyone at the beginning (my parents and I, and understandably so since he never experienced the outside world for 4 years) but I was the one who fed him. I was the one who did obedience with him. I'm the one who did everything with him from day one and took things slow- he developed such a special relationship with me and we are inseparable. He will not resource guard from me but he will resource guard from other people (these items for him are specifically his bed, crate, and food- not toys or other items in the house) it's not that bad. You can walk past his crate or his bed or walk past him eating and he won't bat an eye. But if you try to join him? Game over. We have avoided this problem by simply just giving him HIS space. No one joins him on the bed, no one interferes with his food, etc. His obedience is good enough that we can call him off and not have an issue. It's just something we have to live with.

My dog is scared of everything sounds, movements, people so I have tried before using the collar and she got so scared she didn’t come out of the room for 2 days. Is it safe to use it agin to make sure she doesn’t resource guards me or barks at everything and guest in the house. I have been training her by myself for one year and she knows most of the commands and listens to me even off leash but gets scared to sounds in the park and tries to run away. She won’t go far as she never wants to leave my side but she won’t play or walk once she is scared. Your advice is much appreciated. I watch all your videos and learn from them. Thank you

These newer collars are a lot more consistent especially the better brands. a lot of older collars sometimes don’t stay consistent and can randomly go off unlike these newer ones. They also have more settings! Ive seen older collars with less modes vs these newer ones with about 30. also waterproof and very durable.

How do you feel about crate training with the e collar? We have been trying only positive training for the bast 3 months and it’s not working.
@rocco2451
@rocco2451 3 года назад
How old is this dog? A puppy? An adult? A rescue dog? Generally speaking the answer is no to using an ecollar in the crate. You want the crate to be a positive experience for the dog. I’ve been using the dogtra ecollar for the past 12 years. My dogs are well rounded and well behaved on and off leash. I’ve never had to use an ecollar in the crate. I also had the dogs since they were anywhere from 8-12 weeks. I never used the crate for punishment. I introduced the crate with food and peanut butter/wet food Kong’s. I never just threw my dogs in the crate and left them there in the beginning. The door was left open while getting treats so when I would ask if they wanted a treat they would run to their crate to get it. An adult dog or a rescue dog may have prior negative experiences with the crate. In that case, more patience is required.
@yourChristianbestie
@yourChristianbestie 3 года назад
He’s still a puppy around 7-8 months. He was a rescue and was crated at the foster house with his sister. Which caused a lot of separation anxiety. I feed him all his meals in their plus bulley sticks and frozen kongs. The only reason I ask is because he has hurt himself in the crate at this point.
@zelina6595
@zelina6595 3 года назад
@@yourChristianbestie would it be possible to use an x-pen or have a dog safe room for your dog to be left alone in instead of the crate? Not saying it'd be impossible to crate train, because from just a comment it's imposible to tell, but a larger space may help relieve some of your dogs anxiety as they wouldn't feel so confined and likely work on seperation amxiety as well
@rocco2451
@rocco2451 3 года назад
I don’t know how much exercise the dog has been getting also. For context, I have labs. At 7-8 months I would walk them for an hour before they were to get in the crate (before I went to work) and an hour every night (before bedtime). Not to mention all the training and fetch and tug of war in between (and yes I had a full time job also). My dogs were mentally and physically exhausted before I put them in the crate. The crate should be used as a normal place to sleep and relax. Hopefully you’re using it at night as a normal part of bedtime and not just when you need to leave the house (which can lead to stress for the dog). I wish you luck!

I rescued a Lurched in terrible condition, very thin full of ticks and lice. He was about 9 months old. He was very possessive with his food. I worked on this thankfully! My 7 yr old niece came to stay. I was feeding the dogs she was giving them their food. She had fed the Lurcher then decided it was in the wrong place, she just said "Leave it." Dog stepped back and followed her to where she placed the food.

Buy a mini educator, follow the directions, watch the videos. There are also some very good books on ecollar training. One by Larry Krohn available on Amazon is good. We had the same problem with my dog, but he also wants to bite people! The ecollar changed everything. When introducing it, be sure to start with low working level, start with commands your dog knows, put a leash on him, and use treats, mark the behavior. Don’t make the mistake I did.. I thought the vibrate mode might be less aversive and tried that without his leash on. Well, he freaked out and ran around in circles all over the house. Lesson learned. To stop the counter surfing, I’d wait until he understands that the stim from the ecollar is basically like leash pressure, meaning you want him to comply with a command. Once he gets that, which is pretty quick, then you set up a situation with yummy food (Pizza!) on the counter and the second he jumps up you say no! and use the stim, most likely at a slightly higher level than his working level. My dogs working level is around a 6 inside without distractions, higher outside 10-15, and up to 30 when he’s intent on going after his arch enemy that bit him in the face when he was a puppy. I added the tone before using the stim on walks when he starts staring down a dog (loading) along with look at me and a treat. He’s so much better now. Best of luck, you can do this.

Greetz from Germany. Do you know why e-collars are banned here by law? Simple. People are too dumb to use them properly. It's regarded as a tool, lazy people use. So we made it mandatory to prove you can handle a dog, before you are allowed to own a dog.

@@tomdavisofficial in my home state (Lower Saxony) you have to prove in a theory & practical session, that you know how to handle your dog safely. E-Collers have been abused so wildly that they were banned. And to be honest: With your skillset and experience - for me there's no point in promoting an e-collar, other than profit by merchandise. Get over it, you are better than that.
@theshadow4737
@theshadow4737 3 года назад
E-collars are banned mostly because animal activists picture them as shock collars that will hurt a dog. Similar prong collars are frowned at because of confusion with spike collars, and even with a slip collar you get strange looks from some dog owners who take their out of control dog a wide circle around you. That is why any tool should always com with clear instruction, just like in the videos of Tom.

@@liliderhund6033 It's another one of ya'all with the "Deutschland Uber Alles" (that was banned for being in poor taste) attitude. Testing people to see if they are "allowed" to have dogs? No, thank you. We live in a Free Country over here. Taking away animal ownership was one of the first steps the Nazi regime took in stripping the Jewish people of their rights. E collars help dog owners keep their dogs, hold dogs accountable and save dogs lives. There is no amount of "skills set" that is going to overcome a dog's instincts and when those instincts kick in AND the dog is off leash, the e collar provides an effective way to keep your dog safe (keep him from running into traffic, be shredded by a wild animal...). This is about doing what works for the best interest of the dog and his owner, not flaunting one's ego/Nationalistic pride. When you do the latter you only show how little you know about dogs.

@@theshadow4737 Don't get me wrong. I only stated, that I can understand why these tools are banned - used correctly they are a wonderful tool.
