This unsuspecting terrier had previously bitten two police officers in separate incidents as they attempted to enter the home. She has a strong aversion to men coming into the home and this was, in fact, the root of the problem...not men as such.
I'm pleased to say that the dog was not destroyed and the points I raise as a dog expert witness during the assessment (as heard on the video) were accepted by the court as the measures to increase safety and control in the future.
There is a three-point action plan that I have created, being:
1) To place her inside a crate when people (primarily strangers) enter the home).
2) To ensure that the boundary of the front garden is fully secure in the event of her escaping through the front door.
3) To place a letterbox container on the door to protect the post and to lessen her manic behaviour each day and associated behaviours at the front door.
Her behaviour in public was not under scrutiny and there was ample evidence to suggest that she can be trusted in such locations.
A happy ending like this is always welcome...especially when you sincerely believe the recommendations. Naturally, the onus is on the owner now to instigate these measures and to carry them out as needed.
