I've started with photography last year, took a course in pet photography in evening school in Belgium, but honestly, your videos are wayyy better and more useful than the 1500 euro class! Wished I found your channel sooner! Many many thanks, true inspiration!
Amooooo con locura este cannaaallll! Soy de Venezuela y me dedico a fotografiar mascotas en mis tiempos libres y estoy tratando de que sea mi principal fuente de ingreso y ser tan buena como tu!
I photograph dogs and horses, and I found this video wonderfully produced. Good pace, wonderful animals - keep it up. Greetings from Newfoundland Canada. Pat
One thing I'd add: it's super important to have an assistant (likely, not the owner) who knows how to work with the doggo. It will save lots of time and make for much better shots, plus less stress on the hound.
Love this, I'm just starting with indoor studio and would love to see more videos around light positioning to avoid shadows. All of my practice is in a small living room.
I love your video especially this one, I’d love a video ti learn how do you use your lighting equipment in the studio, and more about your Lighting equipment. thank you for the videos!
We're definitely working on doing this but with lockdown here, we're struggling for spaces to shoot as I only have a small living room to use at present 🙁Thank you so much for watching and also for taking the time to comment!
I'm just starting out with studio & pet photography so don't have all the kit yet! I do have flashes (connected with wire) but at the minute can only connect 1 so would reflector work in place of one of the flashes?
Such an awesome video! Gives a great insight! Have you ever done a video based on photographing black dogs? I have a Nikon D5600 with a slightly worn out lense and I try to take action shots (outdoors) of my black lab but it just seems sooo difficult! 😕💜
if you're doing outdoor shoots with a fast moving subject, you'll have to have a higher shutter speed of at least 1/1000th - this will allow your images not to have motion blur. use continuous autofocus. widest possible aperture on your lens to let in the most amount of light. and use ISO to expose correctly.
Great info! When shooting on solid backdrops do you always block out the natural light? I get confused as to when you want to do that versus shooting normally, as I thought that was only done with black backgrounds. Thanks!
Hi, I just watched this video, thanks a lot! It’s awesome and simple , I would like to know what size of octagons would you recommend for pet photography... for now I’m using a speedlight ;) thanks!
Depends on your space really and a very large one would mean your speedlight won't have the power to fill it. 60cm would be good to try I think, and if you can go bigger then do so. I used to have a 1m one but it had two speedlights in for event shooting 👌
I had a question! In a scenario where the dogs are NOT okay with the flashing of the lights, what alternative methods would you use? Or would you just keep doing it very slowly with rewards until they get more comfortable?
Hi Jess, great to see your set up here. You make it look so easy, but 10 plus years of doing this probably helps :-) Is there a particular tone of Yellow that you use for the paper backdrop?
Hey, I did an in-home studio session with the same kit with a bit more of a how to, just for headshots because the aim was shooting in a teeny tiny space(!), I run through more about the how-to there and also link to a blog post below with my actual backdrop and a colour chart from the manufacturer 🤓 That video can be found here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0R0VlrhU4OQ.html Thanks so much for commenting today!
@@ThatPhotographySpot Great video, thanks for sharing. The colorama (flash centre) link on the other video that you mentioned above has now broken. What specific colorama colours have you found work well across a range of dogs?
Loved your videos! They are really great! I have my own pet photogrphy studio and the thing I struggle the most is with the backdrop. My question to you is: have you ever considered using another kind of material instead of seamles paper? Have you tried other alternatives before? I use paper but it gets expensive to keep buyng it. Thank you! :-)
Hi Andre, yes I have used fabric, Muslin, vinyl and wood for studio backdrops, each over a period of maybe 1 year or more. For white backgrounds I prefer vinyl, for black I prefer fabric and for anything else - seamless paper. Hope this helps 😊
You have tons of great information here and the videos are excellent. One thing that I can't figure out and you don't list is what size your octo boxes are. Thank you!
In homes using seamless paper is tricky because everyone has different sizes houses that don't always have a suitable space. This is 1.35m wide and is quite restrictive - I would usually use 2.1m wide as a minimum but you gotta do what you gotta do!
Hey Nancy, I use Colorama paper backdrops which I purchase from The Flash Centre here in the UK. This is Buttercup i think, but I have used Dandelion in the past. That might be the wrong way round though!
Apologies if you have already done this, but how about a tutorial on how to photograph/control dogs that won't keep still or are badly trained? Unfortunately, the majority of dogs I've photographed have fallen into these categories. My heart sinks when the client admits their dogs are nutcases!
No apologies needed, this is a common question 🤓 Keeping the dog on a lead and keeping the session really calm is really important. It's very much about how 'you' handle the situation rather than the dog itself. We're going to look at doing a video to cover this very subject 👌
