These genuinely love animals and want to help them. It's great to see them openly learn what they need and include their little boy at certain times so he'll grow up learning how to treat dogs too.
Nicole is very humble. She is taking this counsel very well and Victoria is just a great counselor. We have 5 dogs and would love Victoria to come to Iowa. I'm learning so much from others. This is real life lessons for all dog owners.
Hold on. She said that a guy came in and told her that she needs to be the alpha dog. Is she talking about Cesar 101 the dog whisperer? Because if she was, he failed and shows that he's doing alot of wrong
Unfortunately he's not the only trainer using the pack approach, just the most famous one. Enough evidence of that style of training failing, but it sort of works often enough that there's still supporters. Sad.
I think so. She's a professional, so she's obviously not going to name him outright, but they way she said "from a certain camp" and the fact that she's an actress, it makes me suspect that he may have been who she was talking about. It's possible it was someone else, but I think maybe she was talking about Caesar Milan
This actress is one of my favs. She is hilarious. I am so happy to see you go and help her. She knew she found an opportunity when she seen you come here to the US. Who wouldn't? God bless this day. She has a lot on her plate.
I recognized her name right away, she was in one of my favourite shows when I was in school: "Buzz Lightyear of Star Command" as the voice of Mira Nova
This is one of my favourite episodes it’s not the people being the problem there trying there best and just needed some help with how to teach their dogs
These people are genuine animal lovers and want the best for there dogs and victoria gave them this I think Victoria is one of the best dog trainers I love watching all her videos
I loved this episode. They are good people that were overwhelmed. I love the dogs’ transformations. Donut is so cute! They’ve got a nice property too 😂😂😂
It's not a lot, but I couldn't help but give, because you Victoria are a God send to us here. We need your help here in the US. A lot of ppl have this problem along with others, your knowledge is needed all over the world!
I really like this actress. She had a long part on 'King of Queens'. Her character was so funny! 😁 Oddly enough, she played a *dog* walker who Leah Remini's character started encouraging to "walk" her lonely father played by the late great Jerry Stiller, LMAO! 🤣
Holy shoot! It's * that * Nicole actress! Damn! Takes a lot to put your personal life on display like that when you have such a high profile career! She wasn't being a comedian here. She is just a dog owner who needs some help. We are all just dog owners trying to learn how to communicate with our pets.
I've worked with different trainers in Australia and the UK, and I can guarantee that dog trainers who use positive reinforcement are as good as Victoria, they just don't have a TV show. This does not belittle Victoria in any way, but you shouldn't underestimate other dog trainers
I know you think you're just complimenting Victoria here, but your phrasing excludes the many millions of people working as vets, vet nurses, groomers, rescue workers, rehab workers, and trainers, every day worldwide. Every person who works with stressed dogs has their own set of skills and instincts and understanding of the dogs' emotions. Some are better than others, certainly, and a few work with outdated techniques (or cultural understandings that you might disagree with). But Victoria is far from alone.
With the whistle training when they tried to up the ante. They ALWAYS need a reward! If its not going to be treats it needs to be a toy and eventually just pets and love. The dopamine from pets alone can be just as good as a treat and is a more realistic reward for actual field work. Treats normally dont follow until the end of day. Especially in working dogs that need to maintain a certain weight. And toys only in training.
The love all the time in Nicole's eyes ❤️❤️❤️😍😍😍😍😍really shows that she really really loves her babies n letting them go anywhere is not at all an option for her... ❤️❤️❤️Love people like this...
@@diego-wn2vk fir you buddy .. not for Nicole!!! They are her babies, n how many parents work so hard even for their own babies 😂😂😂😂... Chill. Don't waste your time n energy understanding coz you wudnt understand 👍🏻. Stay blessed...
how did i never know nicole sullivan was on an episode?! at the start i was like “man she really makes me think of that one actor.. what’s her name?” and then they said it! haha
Well, she has got a full time job in acting and it probably requires that she's away for some periods of time. So she doesn't have the time. And let's be honest. If we could all hire someone to clean the house for us, we would.
@@JustAnotherPerson4U lol, I do hire someone to clean my house hahaha. Life with kids and spending 1 day every weekend cleaning for 6 years was enough to drive us to find help lol! Bloody knackering when you're both full-time in a career and raising kids!
I was thinking how good NIcole looks in this episode and then I realized this aired in 2009. So it’s likely that all these dogs have since passed and her son is now 16.
Should have done their homework before bringing a Catahoula mix into the house. The Catahoula is a hunting/tracking dog, not a city dwelling dog. It *needs* space to run and explore and get its howls out. That's what it was bred to do! 😆
Victoria's training has really helped my dogs. I was trying to find other ideas to stimulate my 1 year-old Kangal. His basic training is so routine. I can't wait to try the search game. He will love it.
A lot of people think specific dogs aren’t smart, because the dogs have learned humans are not going to make any kind of sense when they speak. I I have always thought the dogs I trained were just geniuses and then I realized that they expected me to make sense because I was consistent with my training so when I spoke or wanted to teach them something new, they realized that there was a way to make sense of what I was trying to communicate if they paid attention. basically dogs that people think aren’t smart, are probably the ones who think the same thing about people.
These are some of the most accepting owners I've seen on this show. They know the flaws and are completely willing to work with Victoria to fix it without getting defensive. We need more owners like that.
Why didn’t she use kiddie gates around the house to separate the dogs from the baby, table etc. Basic commonsense. I have a Catahoula, my boy rarely barks. Though he loves to slay the dragon ( my wheelbarrow).
I'm in first course of childhood pedagogy and we have to go to kindergartens for practice and I feel like Pako is like a child who is hyperactive, had a few and Pako truly seems to show some types of hyperactivity. obviously, Pako is not a human child and it would probably be incorrect for me to say that he is but it's just my opinion 💁♀️
Sounds to me like this woman, and no I've never heard of her, needs to decide what her priorities are. Does she want a family and a pet or does she want to run a rescue kennel? IMO I think she desperately needs to get rid of all but one or two animals so she can raise her child and build her relationship with her husband. This is just ridiculous! If she's that wealthy why not open a separate rescue kennel?
6:26 I never knew that there is such a thing as woke dog training. I think that the dogs never heard of it either because they took control of the household and dominated their humans by claiming their personal space, things and food. 😂 Paco thinks there is no leader in the house so he starts showing territorial behaviour by marking his territory, icl. new objects. Ironically, Victoria, who claims she doesn't believe in dominance, exhibits a perfect dominant territorial behaviour herself by charging and yelling at Paco.
I have a rescue Catahoula….we got her at 5 months when she was living on the streets in Texas. It was a struggle but I am happy we have her because I fear someone else would have abused her or re-homed her. It took more than a year of her destroying (we had to get creative and be smarter than her to avoid it) to finally get her to stop. She is wonderful!
31:00 it's good to isolate Paco when unsupervised, but there's no reason he has to be alone as dogs are pack animals. If your dog has a buddy, the buddy can go inside the pen too! 💖🌞🌵😷
What do you do though, if the dog learns that when it barks, there's a whistle and a treat, so they go right back to barking, right after getting the treat, to get another whistle and treat?
So in this specific case practise enough recalls when they're quiet. If 1/5 times they then happen to be barking when you call, it won't matter, since most of the times they're not. If you really want to get all use out of the chaining effect though, you can take it one step further and make sure you often call selectively just when they're doing something especially good. Lying down and just chilling = whistle+hotdogs. Spot something on the street and look quietly for two seconds = whistle+hotdogs. Check in with you = whistle+hotdogs. So that if they're even trying to figure out the system, they're more likely to try and prompt you by being excellent pups rather than doing anything forbidden.
What you're describing is two techniques incorrectly meshed together. The recall command is whistle and treat for coming. To get them to stop barking they go inside for 30 seconds or are told "enough" with body blocking.
@@joiathegreat Yes, that's how they originally teach them. But the reason they started training the recall at 21:52 was to gain more control over the dogs at home. They specifically talk about how a dog barks and then won't come away from the barking spot when called. So they start with just small distances in the yard, but soon move the recall training all the way to their back door so they can call the dogs in when needed. And right at the end of the episode Nicole tells how Fonzies sometimes still barks but comes in when she calls. So chaining is a real possibility if the dogs only get hotdogs for recalls and owners only call them when they're barking (or digging for example). Luckily it's easy to avoid as described before 🙂 And they also had the other techniques to use when they're outside with the dogs to stop them from barking as you pointed out. This teaches the dogs that barking doesn't always lead to a recall, sometimes they're just moved away from the barking spot by body blocking or a lead.
I have seen parts of this episode before, and Victoria never addresses the issue of what to do if your dog continues to bark when you're not there to stop the behavior.
There are other episodes that touch on it. It’s a behaviour that often is connected to separation anxiety. For some dogs who bark a lot, barking when no one is home isn’t really an issue. There is a lot less stimulation inside and no reason to alert owners who aren’t there. I wonder if that might be what’s going on here.
All I have to say is Victoria, yr awesome. I love yr ways. It's awesome. I am learning so much. Totally cool. Just keep filming, I'll keep learning. Works for me. Thankusm Victoria. It means the world to all of us. All of it. Ill tell yah, I'm glad yr young, Victoria. It means y'll be here for yrs to come I hope to God, cause we need u, lady. Love usm. I love yr wispering instincts. Oh man. They help and work so good. So good. So, for me, yr telling us, to always carry treats. Ok, I didnt know that, or hadn't figured it yet, and I gotta get em. But I'm learning. I love this. Love u and yr show. Victoria, I learn so much. U and Caesar 911 r the 2 shows I watch and learn everything from. If I learn it from u 2, I'm good, and ik that. It feels so good to know what to do. Thats gives me huge cofidence all day long. It feels so good to know that I can control what my dogs do with other dogs when I go out for anything, or for any reason. There is help, and ik yr there. Its just rlly rlly nice to know that. Just such a pleasant feeling. So I want to thank u, and praise the work u do with these gorgeous animals all the day long. My lady, Victoria, yr rlly cool, intelligent, and smart. Boy, do we need u. Now hey, u guys have a nice evening and the rest of yr weekend. Love yrselves always. And each other. Take care of one another for life.
Beyond the game , funzies could be a good search and rescue dog if they were willing to spend the time. Digs who have a high find drive are good rescue dogs.
I suppose Doughnut's grooming situation is a little out of Victoria's area of expertise, since it's not extreme enough to be impacting on the dog's health, but I'd have liked to see some comment on what's going on there.
