Even if the new one isn't as fast as the older one, at least you can do two at a time or even more. So happy you were able to get another one since you are doing 8 workshops this year. I also think, if you are not already doing it, you should show them how to cut them in pieces. A lot of people not raised on a farm, have only an idea how to do that. It is a skill. Also quartering them for the grill...leg quarters and breast quarters. Please leave the little barn up until you are absolutely sure you have no use for it. Easier to take down later than have to rebuild it for sure. Y'all are doing so well on this new property. Have a Blessed day

Can’t wait to see how well it works. We built the Whizbang and your right it was still expensive. I like that the new one is lower. I’m kinda short and it’s hard to see inside the barrel of ours unless your right up on top of it. Which can be messy. 😂

Maybe add some mass to the cooler so opening it doesn't just fill it with warm air. Barrels with water or some such, cooled down the day before, or buckets frozen if it gets that cold. Things should get cooled down quicker that way.

I would keep that building and add on to it. The original may be perfect for storing the butchering equipment behind lock and key and in place for every butchering you do. Simple to unpack and set up only a few feet away.

Maybe you have another well feeding the water at the separate smaller barn and since the power is shut off the pump won’t work. I’m worried that the new plucker will hold up as well as the stainless one but we’ll see. The advantage yo building one yourself is you can use parts made in America.

In regards to building your own plucker... I infact did purchase the instructions and all items to make the whizbang plucker. And yes you are right it was more expe size it cost me almost $700, as I had to purchase everything, I had nothing old laying around. Having said that I would still pay more for my homemade whizbang and it did such an awesome job. In the past we have used yardbird brand and one that does on a drill, needless to say the whizbang removed 100% of feathers and there was no "feather cleanup" (removing feathers/pon feathers afterwards) as I had with the other pluckers. So yes it's not cheaper but it works way better in our experience.

I cannot say that dressing chickens out was ever one of my favorite things on the farm… I remember the first time I was asked to T post down and killer chicken… I failed miserably at it for two reasons: I didn’t weigh enough even though I was old enough (I was petite for my age unfortunately, or fortunately for the chicken), & I looked into the chicken’s eye at the last minute and I had empathy for it and I just could not kill it… and my father took pity on me and told me I did not have to do it and he took over. I never was asked to kill chickens again… But that did not get me out of the jobs of plucking the scalded feathers from their bodies or singeing the legs of tiny feathers left behind or from cutting the chickens apart and freezing different pieces into different bags or sometimes actually a whole chicken in a bag. I love the way my mother cut up a chicken into this day that is exactly how I cut my chickens still. I go to peoples houses and they have a little tiny breast or the back is cut up weird and it’s hard to tell what the piece is. It’ll be interesting to see if you guys show on camera how to cut the chicken apart. But for me I couldn’t stand the smell of scolded/singed chicken so I think that was one of my worst days on the farm. But I am excited that you’re excited and I think if we would’ve had nice equipment like that it would’ve been a lot more enjoyable although, I still would not of liked the killing part… I just have a tender heart. My father never let us in the barn when pigs and cattle were being butchered as he wanted to treat his daughters like ladies and I thank him for that still to this day (even though he is in heaven and no longer with me). The last thing I’d like to say is I love how easily you make things and you do so by using whatever you have and what is available… Re-purposed seeing and reusing is so smart and that is how my father did things too… Very rarely was he buying brand new unless he absolutely had to. I also like the way you are constantly thinking ahead and how you might be creating something new or making things better than they are… I find your channel very interesting because of that. Keep doing what you are doing… you definitely keep me interested😊♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

Does the plucker get the under the skin pin feathers. Do you remove the rubber finger to clean? I have hand plucked all my life and thought these machines to be the funniest thing , slapping chickens around. I just dont want people to think this is the only way to process chickens. Hand plucking takes about three minutes per bird.

My husband got me a gorilla cart for Christmas because I had worn out my Scott's green lawn cart. The gorilla is totally my tractor too! It is part of daily chicken chores, and saves my shoulders by hauling water. No permaculturist will tell you the truth, that you keep chickens in zone 2 because of the weight of carrying water🤣. Thanks for this vlog Jason. We appreciate all your hard work. I am building quail cages because. I have eggs on the way. Getting quail (again) Yay for self sufficiency!

They were always full of fleas too. To this day, only 2 of my siblings eat chicken. My youngest brother who was the baby and didn't have to clean chickens and one of my sisters that had physical problems who also and never clean chickens. LOL
