I bought 3 BLACK 5 gallon buckets. I fill them about 1/2 way up with water. Then I leave them in the sun. The black pulls in the heat, and gives you warm to medium hot after several hours ( if you put them out early, and move them to keep them in the sun). I cover them with a black garbage bag. I use one for presoaking, and 2 for washing.
Great video! I find it interesting that it seems like the old fashion way was harder but the more I go back to those ways I realize that yes it is work but usually more than one thing gets done. Like you were getting your clothes washed, getting your exercise, getting fresh air and getting your dose of vitamin D. All at once. A win win. Thank you so much 😊
The only problem is, I can get fresh air and exercise moving mulch or pulling weeds to. By doing it by hand it's just one extra thing. With an electric washer i now have more time to get my fresh air and exercise doing other things. Thanks for watching!
@HomesteadinHawaii next thing you know you'll be tying your kids baseball to a fishing line so you dont have to exert. Sad to see you complying with technology making people lazy ☹️
The Lavario seems to require more strength than the other two items. I'm surprised you didn't talk about the weight of wet clothes as you pulled them out of the bucket. The plunger method seems to work best. I am glad you went into detail on how to use these items. You seem to be the only person who did. I've watched others, but they seem to assume you know what's happening. Your detailed explanation helped tremendously. I live in an apartment and our machines are always broke. So one doesn't have to be a homesteader to use these items. Thank you.
Thanks for the nice comment. I feel like I bombed on that video. I probably didn’t mention the weight because I’m a pretty big guy and the weight of things doesn’t really phase me, but I definitely should have. It does get heavy when it’s wet.
Love the intro with your keikis and the rooster crowing! I'm also freaking out because I've never seen a man do laundry or clean literally anything, besides their car. Hahha! Mahalo! Aloha!
Yeah. I do laundry. Ever since I was a kid. My mom had us do all the chores around the house. Still doing them 😫. You liked the intro? My kids came up with that. They're having fun with them. I'll have to get them in more videos.
Bs, you watching me with your camera and in my cloned phone for 2 years, crap my bad, this comment from 3 yrs ago, now you've seen 2 😉 byw your clothes are washed, dried, ready for pickup, hope to meet you face to face one day 😊 let that sink in 🤩
Another great video! Made my back hurt watching. Mahalo. About the beginning It was awesome! Reminded me of my kids. Enjoy these times you blink and its over. Seems like yesterday I was playing fort and today they are 34 30 30 and 25. Time the one thing everyone wants more of and no matter how much they make they cannot buy. Figure when I make it over I'm going with the Hotpoint as well. Enjoy your time Aloha
"part of a compass.. nope don't need that" hahah :) I've been using a bamboo washboard. Do you know about those? I know you're a fan of using Bamboo. I think I might try out the plunger method though! That's a cool idea!
Awesome videos man. Moving my family off grid in puna from Oahu pretty soon . Mind going over your solar setup ? Maybe what you had when your first started and what you could run with that system and what you have now ? Washing machine is definitely in my wife’s must haves list haha . Mahalo in advanced
If you want to do laundry manually, I suggest the Breathing Mobile Washer. It pushes the soap & water down through the clothes and sucks the soap & water up through again. I have had mine for 2 yrs. now and use it weekly. They also have one on Amazon called the Washing Wand that works on the same principle. Enjoy!
Awesome, that washboard looks brutal brother, I'd catch all those feral dogs and put 'em all in a big hamster wheel and make them run the washer on rainy days, BBBHHHAaaaaaahhhhhhh!! Nice one as usual,
Here is a link to one similar to the one I have. www.amazon.com/Mobile-Washer-Portable-Clothes-Agitator/dp/B084D2FRZ8?crid=W0Y6IH538AUR&keywords=washing+plunger&qid=1650464332&sprefix=washing+plunge%2Caps%2C192&sr=8-8&linkCode=ll1&tag=homesteadi0cb-20&linkId=7633c37d5a7e83716c7b1d6f34c77862&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_tl
How do you dry them? Line dry?Do you find that areas in Puna with high humidity make it difficult for your clothes to completely dry and are there issues with mold? Mahalo!
When it's raining ALL the time it is hard. I have a covered area that we hang clothes up to dry when its rainy. Normally we are fine but sometimes the rain goes on for so long that it's either mold.or dryer at the laundromat
I have a question, the plunger where were you able to get it with a wood handle. Also the larvario method was the plastic sturdy because I saw reviews where everything broke
I got the plunger locally here in hawaii. As for the lavario, as long as you don't overload it and leave it in the sun, it holds up pretty well. I've had mine for a few years now.
