But there is a safe way to straighten natural hair and it reverts just fine when wet…I’ve seen it so many times. My aunt is a cosmetologist..one of the best I’ve experienced in my life and my hair ALWAYS reverts back to its natural state after being just flat ironed. If he didn’t put a chemical in her hair, he most certainly put too much heat on her hair, and without the proper preparations before straightening. That’s the only way her hair would go from curling the way it did, to being bone straight only after he styled her hair.

It was Keratin and not lye. They also call the keratin treatments amino acid treatments Keratin does do this to your curly hair when they apply heat and it bonds to the hair. Happened to my 4a curly hair same outcome and it makes the hair weak and limp. My hair was natural and thick and below my bra at the back.. When I wet it my hair for a long time afterward it went straight instead of curly -- I wear natural hair and it took like 3 yrs to grow all that straight hair limp treated hair out. The new growth was normal and the ends were basically terrible fro that keratin treatment.

This is the classic example of why the plaintiff needed expert testimony! All of us in the natural community know that you can get heat damage from a flat hair that will "straighten" your hair without a chemical process. It pains me that this hairstylist was not held responsible for damaging her hair with heat. If her hair was too damaged for a silk press, then he, as the professional, should not have performed the service.

Over time my hair thinned and got weak. My hair was thick and strong. My hair was waist length at the time and I had to grow my hair out for the natural curly bounce should to come through. I only straightened my hair once at a salon and keratin treatment was used for real the press and the same thing happened.

This case presents an intriguing situation. If the defendant did indeed cause damage to her hair as she alleges, there are several steps she could have taken to substantiate her claim. While I can't personally relate to her hair type, it seems essential for the plaintiff to provide evidence to support her case. For instance, documenting the defendant's countertop with his hair care products could have been beneficial. Although hair care isn't my main focus, the defendant's information did come across as quite convincing. So, again, it's up to the plaintiff to prove her suspicion. Judge Milian's observation about the lack of evidence is noteworthy - photographic evidence or a professional assessment from another establishment could have bolstered her case. I empathize with her frustration, particularly in attempting to articulate her suspicion about the use of a chemical. However, in the legal realm, repetition alone doesn't suffice as proof.

@NM-xr9pi
@NM-xr9pi 14 дней назад
Yeah they use keratin treatment when you get a press or they use that flat iron. I went to a Dominican salon and my hair was pressed bone straight but I have naturally cutlry 4a hair and it's thick and I don't use chemicals in my hair... heat does not take my curls away to the point where my hair is still straight when I wet it... Keratin bonding when heat is applied does cause the hair to become straight like this. Years later I have a new Dominican salon and I told them I don't want Keratin -- they said we don't add treatments like that for a press unless you ask for it. Very big difference in the outcome... I wet my hair and of course the curl pattern was relaxed but at least it bounced back after a couple washes. with the keratin treatment my hair was simply limp and weak and not curling. I think for each person outcomes are going to differ with keratin but I think its beneficial to ppl that want to keep their hair straight. I think he should have never used the aminos traetment which is what they call keratin...

I’ve had a hair stylist do this to my hair once before. I have coarse 4c hair and unfortunately, even some Black stylists don’t have the skill or patience to deal with highly textured hair. There are also a lot of Black folks that are colorist and texturist, so they discriminate against people with hair they perceive as ugly or difficult. I went in just to get my hair washed, straightened and trimmed, but they ended up sneaking in a texturizer while conditioning my hair. I was like 17 at the time and didn’t know how to advocate for myself back then. It was hurtful and humiliating. I’m in my 30’s now and I can count on one hand how many times I’ve been to any hair salon since then. I learned how to just do my own hair. Anyway, I wish the plaintiff came in with better evidence. She should have brought pictures of her hair in its natural state, completely without manipulation and product free. We all have pictures like that because our shrinkage be magical! If not, it does seem suspicious. Maybe her hair wasn’t in the best condition. Alternatively, those silk presses could have just damaged her hair. All it takes is one salon visit to get heat damage. So many things can go wrong when you’re straightening. I don’t think it’s unbelievable that he could have snuck some chemical in her hair, but she just didn’t prove it.

She put up a picture of herself saying that was her fake hair. That was fake hair because she had cornrows and crochet fake hair onto it herself... You cannot look at your whole head close enough even with all the mirrors in the world to do this on a regular basis and not measure hair up real bad just like her hair looks.... I'm gonna tell you in my opinion what I think happened she'd been crochet braiding her hair And after a while it really tore it up and she wants to blame someone else... I have seen where people do their own crochet braiding and after about a year or so they have bald patches very uneven hair thin spots scraggly dried out ends it's bad. Even a professional who's not really good can damage your hair but there's no way you can see your own hair close up enough to know where to place the hook and pull the fake hair through without damaging the other hair around it with mirrors- especially if you're doing it on a regular basis. This is a Karen

This is heat damage. This happened to my leave out when i got my hair done for my wedding. My hair stylist said she put heat protectant on it. I was so angry when I washed my hair and the leave out was straight😠 Never went back. Had to eventually cut my hair.
@agp3096

I believe her when she says it wasn't damaged when she went to him. He either gave her a keratin treatment or gave her extreme heat damage. If it's keratin, it will eventually wash out. Update: He said he did an "amino acid treatment". I just read up on it a smoothing treatment to help straighten hair and make silk presses last longer. He should have gotten her permission to do that.

I’m so upset at this verdict because it was most certainly wrong. The difference in her hair was proof of damage! She should’ve went to judge mablene or something because Milian is unfortunately clueless on this issue. Not cutting split ends can make your hair frizzy and unhealthy, but not bone straight. His defense was not a justification for how her hair looked. It was extremely straight after her visit to him, and didn’t revert back to curly. It should have reverted regardless of damaged ends 😑

im pretty sure she lost because she couldnt prove her case. in court when youre sueing somebody for 5grand, evidence is king and u better be able to prove it, and not with words or "understanding" of hair. theres no question that something happened to that lady's hair....but thats not the issue at hand. the issue is, WHO is responsible for it? she says the dude ruined her hair with chemicals, the dude says he didnt put any chemicals and that she ruined her own hair by wearing those military style braids. when he pointed out that the braids hairstyle she does causes her hair to be dry brittle and weak, she couldnt even argue against that. she didnt even try. not even the minimal "thats not true". she just kept repeating that he put chemicals and pointing to how her hair was an entire year ago. yet she has 0 pictures of her hair from beginning of 2021 to the june appointment....its because her hair was already messed up like the stylist said. she sued him. she has to prove what shes saying.

Relaxers are not the only chemical straightened treatment’s .Keratin treatment will also straighten the hair and the first process she said he did to her hair actually sounds like a keratin treatment. However, looking at the pics her hair to seemed to be severely damaged and will required several treatment to restore or she can do a big chio and start over. You can have natural hair and get a keratin treatment will take approximately 4-6 months for treatment to fully grow out the hair depending on length but one hair can still remain in a seemingly healthy state if taken care of properly. Her hair just seems to be damaged, probably from the beginning like the stylist said. Or he could’ve also severely heat damaged her hair. So there’s a few factors in play here.

This and many Domincan salons use it. I had the same thing happen and my hair is naturally curly 4a and looks like yours kinda in your thumbnail... I got that keratin treatment with a press and my hair was almost unrecognizable for over a year when I wet it and I had to grow all of it out to restore it so my natural hair could look,, feel and be the same.

The plantiffs hair was damaged prior to her seeing him and I think she knew that. Her only complaint was that her hair looked different when wet. Her pictures did not prove her case. I also don't think she ever had a silk press before. If so she would know that the heat changed the curl pattern. It will take some time for it to go back to it's original state. Whenever I flat iron my hair I know it will be about a month before my hair is fully curly again. Also, if he used a chemical like she thinks you would smell it. From his testimony it sounds like he used some conditioner specifically for straightening hair. When I do it at home I use Garnier Fructis sleek & shine line. I forgot what my hairstylist uses 😅. If I was the plaintiff I would've shown the products I used just so there would be no question. Also if I were a stylist I would take before and after pictures and make note of my clients hair prior to me doing anything.

That’s what I was thinking! Heat damage! I used to put my hair in a bun and straighten the bangs. Didn’t pay too much attention to protection spray etc, because it was just my bangs and would always wear them straight. when I washed my hair, everything was curly but the bangs. grew them out and cut that damaged hair off…

I have a natural nail business within an existing salon; that works with all hair types but also specializes in black hair. I can 100% guarantee her was processed with a chemical that straightened her hair. That was a chemical relaxer or she was given a "Keratin Treatment". Lastly, she needs to have a hair cut. With hair breakage and not cutting it off; your hair will continue to break up the hair shaft. Getting your hair cut regularly will help the hair grow faster.
