As a hairdresser, chemical straighteners can not be disguised. They smell like Chemicals.

That's heat damage, sis. That came from the flat iron, not a chemical. That's the risk you take when you straighten curly hair with heat 🤷‍♀

When I got a silk press, I lost my curl pattern as well. But after 2 months of washing and deep conditioning, my curl pattern came back. Heat damage can look as bad as chemical processing. But if she treats it, her curls will come back

She just has heat damage. That is a risk you take when you get silk presses. It happens all the time. She just needs to start over

I would NEVER be a hair stylist...she asked for her hair to be straightened...he straightened it...the heat ruined her curl pattern... case closed.

It’s giving heat damage. Once I saw the pictures I was like heat damage. I’m an African American female as well and we all know that heat can really damage our hair.

Her mistake was, not having a pic showing her natural curly hair at least one month before the first visit even. That would help prove her hair texture change/damage since he got a hold of her. A pic a whole year before does nada. The verdict made sense

All those pics tell me is that she doesnt know how to take care of her own natural hair, which is sad cause shes a grown adult.

Every black woman knows once you straighten your natural hair rather it be with a perm or silk press or blow dry straighten your curl pattern will not be the same after that. It will take a while for it to come back.

Here’s my thing, I’ve been natural my entire life but I’ve smelled relaxers and from what I understand is that the feel of a relaxer on the scalp is not conditioning in the slightest. I believe she’d know if there was a relaxer or some type of lye chemical in her hair. Now, I do believe he heat damaged her hair though. I also believe that the stylist should have declined the client if her hair was not healthy enough for a silk press.

Old white lady here that has had her hair permed in the past...when that was done to me, I could smell the process being done. Would the chemicals she's talking about smell like chemical processing? It sure wasn't Herbal Essence being dumped on my head!

I'm a victim of people sneaking chemicals in my hair to make it looser, and know they will always deny they did anything different and your hair was damaged😅

This is the classic example of why the plaintiff needed expert testimony! All of us in the natural community know that you can get heat damage from a flat hair that will "straighten" your hair without a chemical process. It pains me that this hairstylist was not held responsible for damaging her hair with heat. If her hair was too damaged for a silk press, then he, as the professional, should not have performed the service.

The Plantiff just needed an hair specialist to tell her that the flat irons used in the silk press are powerful enough to straighten out her natural curls. This happen to me when I was going through my 'natural hair' journey.

He used keratin... Keratin will straighten and damage our hair I have 4A curly hair and keratin wrecked it. I only wear it natural. keratin made it straight, weak ,limp and my har literally never got curly the way it should have the it looked terrible. the amino acid treatment is basically keratin it has horrible results over the long run. Over time my hair thinned and got weak. My hair was thick and strong. My hair was waist length at the time and I had to grow my hair out for the natural curly bounce should to come through. My hair was nothing but healthy before the keratin treatment and by the way they don't tell you in some salons that they are doing it when they press your hair...

I loathe when i ask someone a simple question and they give me a round about answer. She didn't ask her for her life story just "What did you get done?"

Plus you would definitely smell the chemical straightener

I have coily hair and when I get a silk press it does not coil back FULLY for at least a month. So she must have never gotten a silk press.

If he told her her hair was damaged, as he said he did, he should have refused her service if she did not want to do what he suggested. All money ain't good money.

I have the most curly, thick coil hair in the world and "black" hair does not go straight unless you have some fine-ness to it, it DOES coil back up. The Plaintiff is correct. I have several children with EVERY TEXTURE of hair from VERY FINE to my baby being the THICKEST, MOST COILED EVER and all in between. ONLY A PERM CAN KEEP THE STRAIGHTENING OF THE HAIR WET.

He definitely ruined her hair. Period

If I was a beautician she could not enter my salon. Suing on assumptions will not get it.

This sounds more like her hair was possibly heat damaged by the defendant rather than it being done by a chemical treatment.

THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME, it’s really upsetting!

I had the exact thing happen to me. I went to a Dominican Hair Salon, for a wash/condition and roller wrap. They snuck a chemical conditioner in my hair, and my hair started falling out. It has taken 2 years to grow back.

He changed the texture of her hair. I would be upset too. There was this girl in my seventh grade class who put something in her hair. Her hair was dry and damaged for years. Same thing happened to my oldest daughter. When she was five, I got her hair texturized. Terrible decision! It took years!

She didn't prove her case. It's just damaged. Honestly it looked damaged before she had it straightened. Especially if the previous person didn't know how to care for natural hair. Maybe that person messed it up

I believe him for the simple fact she said the first stylist she went to wasn’t familiar with her texture… that tells me she went to just anybody at first. Chemicals are noticeable, very!

I’ve had a hair stylist do this to my hair once before. I have coarse 4c hair and unfortunately, even some Black stylists don’t have the skill or patience to deal with highly textured hair. There are also a lot of Black folks that are colorist and texturist, so they discriminate against people with hair they perceive as ugly or difficult. I went in just to get my hair washed, straightened and trimmed, but they ended up sneaking in a texturizer while conditioning my hair. I was like 17 at the time and didn’t know how to advocate for myself back then. It was hurtful and humiliating. I’m in my 30’s now and I can count on one hand how many times I’ve been to any hair salon since then. I learned how to just do my own hair. Anyway, I wish the plaintiff came in with better evidence. She should have brought pictures of her hair in its natural state, completely without manipulation and product free. We all have pictures like that because our shrinkage be magical! If not, it does seem suspicious. Maybe her hair wasn’t in the best condition. Alternatively, those silk presses could have just damaged her hair. All it takes is one salon visit to get heat damage. So many things can go wrong when you’re straightening. I don’t think it’s unbelievable that he could have snuck some chemical in her hair, but she just didn’t prove it.

Crochet is probably the least damaging method.

She put up a picture of herself saying that was her fake hair. That was fake hair because she had cornrows and crochet fake hair onto it herself... You cannot look at your whole head close enough even with all the mirrors in the world to do this on a regular basis and not measure hair up real bad just like her hair looks.... I'm gonna tell you in my opinion what I think happened she'd been crochet braiding her hair And after a while it really tore it up and she wants to blame someone else... I have seen where people do their own crochet braiding and after about a year or so they have bald patches very uneven hair thin spots scraggly dried out ends it's bad. Even a professional who's not really good can damage your hair but there's no way you can see your own hair close up enough to know where to place the hook and pull the fake hair through without damaging the other hair around it with mirrors- especially if you're doing it on a regular basis. Plaintiff paid to have her hair altered, literally "fried," with heat and steam to straighten her naturally curly hair! If you're embracing natural be naturally curly! Self-love and personal accountability is liberation! Do better! Good verdict!

This is heat damage. This happened to my leave out when i got my hair done for my wedding. My hair stylist said she put heat protectant on it. I was so angry when I washed my hair and the leave out was straight😠 Never went back. Had to eventually cut my hair.

I believe her when she says it wasn't damaged when she went to him. He either gave her a keratin treatment or gave her extreme heat damage. If it's keratin, it will eventually wash out. Update: He said he did an "amino acid treatment". I just read up on it a smoothing treatment to help straighten hair and make silk presses last longer. He should have gotten her permission to do that.

I’m so upset at this verdict because it was most certainly wrong. The difference in her hair was proof of damage! She should’ve went to judge mablene or something because Milian is unfortunately clueless on this issue. Not cutting split ends can make your hair frizzy and unhealthy, but not bone straight. His defense was not a justification for how her hair looked. It was extremely straight after her visit to him, and didn’t revert back to curly. It should have reverted regardless of damaged ends 😑

Same thing happened to me with a trifling hair stylist in Raleigh North Carolina named Tiffany. I thought long and hard about doing some hateful ish to her. I still think about it to this day. That's been over ten years ago.

Does anyone ever wish that they could go back and see the judge when they make bad decisions. I know a lot of people talking about the silk press in the heat damage but that wouldn’t make her entire head not come back right out don’t feel. I 100% believe her. As an African American woman I believe this happened to many if not all of us. It’s definitely happened to me. He may not have meant to intentionally do it but he definitely messed up her hair. Should’ve went to Judge Mathis 😂😂😂

“Silk presses” change your hair sometimes. Especially if you do that often.

People need to see dermatologists for badly damaged hair/scalps.

I love when women with coarse hair who do not have naturally curly hair love to say that they somehow have curly hair. The Plaintiff does not have curly hair. People with curly hair have naturally baby hair and she doesn't even have baby hair.

Relaxers are not the only chemical straightened treatment’s .Keratin treatment will also straighten the hair and the first process she said he did to her hair actually sounds like a keratin treatment. However, looking at the pics her hair to seemed to be severely damaged and will required several treatment to restore or she can do a big chio and start over. You can have natural hair and get a keratin treatment will take approximately 4-6 months for treatment to fully grow out the hair depending on length but one hair can still remain in a seemingly healthy state if taken care of properly. Her hair just seems to be damaged, probably from the beginning like the stylist said. Or he could’ve also severely heat damaged her hair. So there’s a few factors in play here.

The plantiffs hair was damaged prior to her seeing him and I think she knew that. Her only complaint was that her hair looked different when wet. Her pictures did not prove her case. I also don't think she ever had a silk press before. If so she would know that the heat changed the curl pattern. It will take some time for it to go back to it's original state. Whenever I flat iron my hair I know it will be about a month before my hair is fully curly again. Also, if he used a chemical like she thinks you would smell it. From his testimony it sounds like he used some conditioner specifically for straightening hair. When I do it at home I use Garnier Fructis sleek & shine line. I forgot what my hairstylist uses 😅. If I was the plaintiff I would've shown the products I used just so there would be no question. Also if I were a stylist I would take before and after pictures and make note of my clients hair prior to me doing anything.

The judge can only award what the plaintiff can prove.

My question is how do we expect to get our hair straightened like that with no heat damage or chemicals?? Hairstylists are not magicians. If your hair is not naturally straight you will have to use something unnatural to straighten it.

Plaintiff is lying! She got a silk press and the heat removed her curl pattern. Her pattern will be back in 2-3 months. Also people kill me holding on to damaged hair because it make them think it's longer...lol

I have a natural nail business within an existing salon; that works with all hair types but also specializes in black hair. I can 100% guarantee her was processed with a chemical that straightened her hair. That was a chemical relaxer or she was given a "Keratin Treatment". Lastly, she needs to have a hair cut. With hair breakage and not cutting it off; your hair will continue to break up the hair shaft. Getting your hair cut regularly will help the hair grow faster.

And she was still ruining her own hair in 2022. Looked her up on FB. 😂

You definitely know when something like that is in your hair she doesnt know how to take care of her hair..thats not the stylist fault
