Doing the ACLS...occupational therapy assessment 

We use the ACLS. This is a great video for students. A few mistakes here, but overall much more interesting than learning the technique from a text. Excellent resource for students. A big thank you from a fellow OT.

Hi! This helps give the therapist some information about how the patient is functioning cognitively...like can they follow directions, can they problem-solve, can they concentrate, etc. The results would be used to gauge at what level the patient is functioning so that treatment would be at the level the patient needs. For example a patient with a lower score will need more assistance...hope that helps. I am sure someone else could provide a better answer though! Thanks for asking.

@OTStudentKaren Thanks for this explanation. The person who trained us was very agressive and angry in her demo, so it came across that the only purpose of the ACLS was to make the client feel stupid...even though it obviously has value as a cognitive assessment.

I looked up "occupational therapy assessment" to see if I could get a glimpse of what it will look like for me. Looking back at my last comment now, it seems sort of mean. Sorry about that. Hi! They might find out how you do with your activities of daily life such as bathing, grooming...also harder things like how you manage your budget (depends on how old you are and what you're doing, as to what they check out). Basically they'll try and see what is hard for you, so that maybe they can help make your life easier or more functional. :)

I know they sit to your right but I have no idea ...I think whatever is comfortable for patient/client. I don't think you could require that!!

cry and beg? Just kiding... It depends on why patient is uncooperative. You can try to explain again the purpose, you can try again later, you can give up, you can do whatever you think will help you get the information you need, without harm to the patient of course!

There are some mistakes in this video, it's not perfect, but it definitely helps give a brief and basic understanding of how it works. :) (Written by camera lady).

Sorry if I missed it, but what would this tell an occupational therapist? Would the results be used to help the patient better? What is the purpose of the test? Thanks.
