Doing the EXACT same song, with the same settings, on the BOSS RC505 MK1 and MK2 Loopstation 

No particular goal, just curious to see how it would come out :)

You could make another comparsion trying to make the same routine sound as good as possible on both machines independently.

Based on this video I feel mk1 sounds the best. The mids and highs are more prominent and feel for the song mk1 fits the best which makes sense as it was designed and made on the mk1

The best feature of the mk2 has to be the instant error drop effect, hits really hard on your ears

Especially since I am on the brink of selling my MKI to buy a MKII and can not afford to have both at my place at the same time. Selling the MKI seems to be the right move. Soundquality seems to have improved a lot, D FX Banks, longer faders and more effects as well as inputs and the MKI production seems to be already stoppped bei Roland so used prices are only going to go up from here on. I know you tried to do the song with the exact same settings, but I am curious... If you play around with the Eq and the compression on MK2 can you get better sound on the drums compared with MK1? I really hope that the mic input on the new machine is better. Otherwise I also think the song sounded better with old 505.

BreZ, you did another perfect work. Huge difference and I certainly choose MKII. It's clear, crisp and punchy! In this time, you made a perfect setting for MKI and MKII followed MKI setting. I would love to listen another song which make perfect setting for MKII and perfect setting for MKI. Both setting are different, but you can find the best sound for both machines. Kanpai!!

I have 1 question I can't find a answer 2. I just brought the 505 1.... the audio is better on the 2..... is it a big difference or is it liveable... a deal breaker.... I mean we know it's what??? 32 bit compared to 16.... but should I return and get the newer one???.... I really like the input control and other things talked about that is not in the new 505 two.

Yea man, you can hear straight away more frequencies due to the AD/DA conversation, I reckon this is why you feel & hear so many changes in sound... new input signal is better you get more frequencies that you have to play with. What you might not realise is that to guys who use pro music gear the mk1 feels & sounds like a toy (I have one too) so you end up compensating level, EQ compression etc should you get used to that way of working.. with miii we are gonna need different strategies to achieve the same as mki if that’s what you want. It has a harmony effect yes, also some distortions and preamps which are good for guitars? Can you suggest a video explaining the possibilities of the RC505MK2 Harmony effect? Unfortunately, I haven't found it. The manual does not say which effects exist

It was a gift that you did this, since I'm still waiting for the Mk2 to become available here in the US. You video made clear the fact that the Mk1 and Mk2 are two similar AND very different machines. I now know there will be a larger learning curve than I assumed in the transition. Man the EQ move to raise level is a smart one, I do the same on guitar & voice. With the mkii can you assign a level increase to the input rather than use an EQ?

The mk2 is a different beast since its update.

One quick tip I'd give is Mk2 handles peaking different, on mk1 compresses the sound and on mk2 you hear the distortion. Of course I don't know your exact settings but I think that explains the kick sound quality cause I see your kicks are peaking on Mk1

This was pretty cool, the version we’re all more familiar with is the mk1 version lol, the new one makes ur main melody sound very different and it’s weird lol. But overall 2nd has a great sound but honestly I prefer the mk1 version of it honestly

Ok, so it's really making me mad that people are are saying "why did you get rid of the input knob". There is more than one input, in fact there in now 4, or 6 if you do stereo trickery. As channels go up, hardware goes down, every device is like this as it gets more complex. If you own a mk1 just don't sell it, you can run it straight into the mk2 and still have access to everything

Can you explain what cables are needed to get set up with a single microphone?? Are they included in the box?? Please help I wanna buy one

So question sir, i hope to get a response, i have just gotten the mark2, and i feel in some cases the way you do about the mark2.i have a set of sure inears, im usualy great about understanding new technology. However upon my first time using it almost the first issue i had was trying to assign an FX to each ch. i felt the mic fx were glitchy sort of, the vocoder to me i feel could be better. I do love this as i am a beginner in live looping. Do you feel i should exchange this for the mark1? I felt the mark 1 just had better sound and i feel like it was more entertaining to watch you on the mark 1. I got the mark 2 because i liked that it has a screen and input monitoring but i agree that i feel i need the input knob. Can i have your opinion on what you think i should do if im a newbie? I would hate to switch it, i do love it but i feel a few things just don’t cut it! Its hard to adjust the step sequences. Also on the website there are tons of new updates and i did update mine just today. Im totally new to this and hope that i get lucky for a response. God bless and happy new year

Mk1 sounds more grainy, which sounds like either converters were upgraded in mk 2 or not depth was increased. Mk 2 had lots more definition, which also alludes to greater bit depth or D/A converters.

*Disclaimer*My opinion only (not a musician). What I hear is the Mk I handles the vocals better (and a bit more bass like), but the MK II handled the 'drums' better.

Does anyone know how to sort out 'the broken loop' on mk2? Is boss goin to update it soon or they just do not care that much?

Yeah bro I have an MK 2 and I found the same thing with some FX it’s not the same at all, but I think for your mic input you don’t need the EQ just press the ENTER button. Then you will see a menu with mic 1 etc and there you can raise or lower the volume for the input with the left knob that you use to toggle between FX. Maybe by now you allready know but maybe not so maybe it helps 😎🤜🏼🤛🏼
