The C800 is definitely a mic that is hyped up by artists and producers more so than engineers. It is one of those mics that either sound amazing on a artist or not great at all as it can be extremely harsh and sibilant. I’ve been rocking the Flea 47 > VLC1 (tube pre) > Lynx Aurora N > Pro Tools. The top end is smooth without being harsh and the mid range is forward giving you that Pop/RnB sound. Fun video :)
I’ve had the cheapest gear for years, then I saved and bought the best and there is a huge difference. If your serious about your music then save your money and get the best, it is worth it, oh and BTW my vocal chain costs $36,000 vintage U67, apogee symphony mic preamps, Maselec eq, pultec eq and a inward Connections tsl-4 opto limiter
using chandler redd for background vocals is cherry on top. anyway that mic double up on the price since last year. i missed it while the price was decent😢
I’m starting to see a pattern. lol Doja is a dope artist. I came across her music a few years back and instantly knew she was a star. Dope series Archie! 👍🏾✌🏾
For anyone that wants the sound of a C800G but can't afford a mic that expensive, if you buy a Warm Audio WA8000 -- which is a clone of the C800G, it's good but it's not quite there. I bought one and had it modded by a company called Erickson Labs (which I think is run by just one guy), after the modification I can not tell the difference between my WA8000 and the C800G. I have nothing to do with Erickson Labs besides being a happy customer. The mod is $900 which takes the price of the mic to about $2000 instead of $10,500. Still not cheap but if you're saving for a mic in that price range but wish you could afford a C800G it's a pretty mind blowing mic.
Also, There is an Advanced Audio mic called the CMT800 and it won a blind shoot out on gear space with the actual Sony C800G. Its only about $700 and it sounds AMAZING ( I bought one as soon as I heard it in action during the shootout)
I don’t think it is too much. In 2020 my vocal chain with a female artist is similar with this setting. C800 -> NEVE vintage custom preamp -> LA2A (I choose this rather than 1176 because the song is a ballad)->Protools. If you don’t mind I can send you this song’s Apple Music link😁.
Dear Archie, Since this thread was expecting a link towards a high-end vocal sound, let me promote my singer 🧑🎤 m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wf3f4MrTvSY.html
Y’all Can Look At The Avantone Cv12 As Well Many Think It’s Model After The CK12 But The Manufacturer Said It Was Model After The C800G You Cant Go Wrong With A Tube Mic $400 New $200-350 Used Or Refurbished
I have the neuman 107 going into a ssl 2+ into warm audio 73 mic pre. Look into getting a Bae 1073 or chandler mic pre that is in this video, whats your thoughts on my vocal chain
You have a great vocal chain already for sure. I'm a Neve 1073 guy so I most definitely would go with the 1073 but that's my preference. A lot of people love the Chandler TG2. I hope this helps.
I’m working with a akg c414 …magomi gold cables going into a launch box with 511 neve…into a Apollo twin X the rest I mix in the box Any suggestions for 500 series gear to add ?
Pl. don't confuse people. Gear don't matters much but the talent matters the most. No one asks which gear have you used. People just look for talent. Artist's own vocal chain must be accurate at all ends. The same goes through every vocal chain recording. You need to produce your warmth in your art. I baught a Rs. 10 ( 1/8 dollar) dynamic mic diaphragm. Fitted it on a speaker magnet coil. Converted it with a cotton pop filter. Then attached it in the head of tape CD played. I sounded like vintage recorded vocals. So, vocals should should be all natural. Un- necessarily modifying vocals don't last long. MJ recorded his thirill by using SM7 dynamic microphone. He became hit. So expensive gear don't matters much. ID 14 MK2, NT1, Mojave MAD, MOJAVE MA 201 FET is sufficient gear for recording.
let's not mention that they used a high class preamp and compressors + a highly expensive mixing console + very expensive tape machines to record the vocals as well. BUT yes I agree talent matters more than the gearb
