You forgot the neve 1081 her vocals ran through before the 6176. it went from the classic 2 to the neve 1081 to the 6176 on "rolling in the deep." Tom elmhirst said on hi breakdown for that record

I love that this one isn't the c800g/1073/cl1b chain that I'm starting to think is wildly overhyped at this point, and more about status than any sonic superiority. I love this series, though. I wanna see more chains that are being used because they sound unique and fewer that are being used just because they feature the current hype pieces.

Archie you got some KILLER GEAR THERE! My vocal chain at the moment is a Mojave MA-1000 or 300 Tube Condenser with a Neve 1073 and a Tube Tech CL-1B or a Disstressor or 1176 and a BLACK BOX HG-2 for saturation.. All my Processing is UAD2 Unison / Plug-ins. Just got a pair of Auratone 5c's to switch back and forth with my KRK Rockit 5's. It's true what they say about the cubes allowing you to focus on the mid range for better translation with your mix. But that being said, I'm a professional carpenter of 38 years and recently built myself a state of the art vocal booth with another fully functional DAW in the booth linked together with my main desk so no need to run in and out to access my DAW controls. Super efficient. But the vocal booth acoustics have made the biggest improvement with my vocal sound. It was the missing most critical part. Instantly made my vocals sound totally professional. Keep up the videos . I love this stuff..

My 1st Recording for RU-vid was with RODE K2...WOW! so when I started to build a Home Studio I just went w/ RODE NTK ( very similar but CARDIOD Only) I run through a Rupert Neve " SHELFORD CHANNEL" into UA apollo X6 as my coversion into LOGIC PRO X. In Logic i EQ (w/ Fabfilter Pro Q 3> UAD 1176,> UAD LA2A> then DeEsser ( somtimes i DeEss earlier) > (TAPE SATuration ) Fabfilter "SATURN or UAD Oxide or Studer A800.

Thanks for covering Adele’s vocal chain. It’s a nice choice & surprising they chose the Rode. I imagine their use Neumann’s these days? I have a Mojave MA301 or 3U Audio MK1D into a UA LA610 or an RME pre into a BLA 17 compressor. 👌

A fellow Mojave User. Good Man I have the MA-300, MA-1000. I'm buying the UA6176 as soon as I'm done with this comment. I love living in these times where I can sit in my studio with a cocktail , go online and buy audio gear AND IT WILL SHOW UP AT MY HOUSE THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW.😁Zzounds gets my gear here fast. I'm an hour from NYC where it's coming from. ✌I'm psyched can't wait to here my Mojave's thru the 6176.

I bet she uses ELA M 251 or C12 nowadays. The "new" sound she has after moving to the US is so much more clean and pop/soul style. The older one had even distortion inserts and sounded almost like a rock vocal. I actually liked it more.

Currently Neumann U87 Ai -> Neumann MT48 > DAW > UAD Neve 1073 > UAD 1176N > UAD Oxide Tape > Autotune and then I decide based on the situation what I will do next My dream chain is having the emulations as outboard gear 😂 And I need to invest a lot into my room. Proper room acoustics are more important imo

Hi! I'm super late, haha, but my vocal chain is thru a behringer umc404hd, and using the inserts on the back, i use two JOYO "Avallon" guitar compressors and an eq seeker by donner (it sounds amazing!) My main mic is a CAD AUDIO GXL 3000

Love these videos. For my home setup, I have an Advanced Audio CM47fet microphone with an Apogee Element 24 interface (best converters in the game), I use the pres in the Apogee and then I have plugins for the rest of my chain, Apogee FX Rack ModEQ with the 3A style compression. However I just got my hands on a Cranborne 500ADAT expansion rack so I'll be getting some hardware soon! At the studio I use a Chandler REDD into a 6176, with a Lynx Hilo interface. Also Apogee Pultec EQ on both, best software emulation in the game. I sound pristine. Dream chain? Probably gonna keep the REDD, into an Altec 1591A Pre, Urei 1176 Compressor, Pultec EQ. Of course there's so much gear out there that will most likely change.

I've been using the Slate ML-1 modelling mic straight into a my interface. It gives me tons of flexibility in software, but I've always craved a little mojo on the raw tracks. I've had my eye on the 6176 for a long time. If it's good enough for Adele it's probably good enough for me. 😁

Actually Adele would have sounded good through a SM58 as well. I wouldn't bet on the last thing you said. ;-)

Nice video! I’m always looking for ways to tweak my sound and really like the sound Adele achieved on her 1st album. If you have a beautiful voice like hers, it’s great to find equipment that can capture it in a transparent and musical way. I have an Ehrland Ehr-m mic that is EXTREMELY transparent with a frequency response of 7 hz to 87khz (not kidding) and internal noise of 7db or less. Then, I go into my Apollo, pultec eq, 1176, la2a, and finally Capitol chambers. All in protools… but want learn Luna because it seems to sound a little more analog. Maybe I’m wrong ;) You should check out the Ehrlund mic series… great mic for the money. And…. A triangular diaphragm. My vintage u-87 has been in the drawer for 5 years now! lol! PS I’m a low bass-baritone singer… any tips to get a really smooth and warm vocal down there? Keep up the good work!

I used the Classic for many years and I own the K2, they are worlds apart. The Classic and the Classic 2 have a character like nothing else. The k2 will sound really great on this type of vocal for that round woolly valve sound but the Classic and the perfected Classic 2 is in a dimension of its own. The original rode Classic had an issue with the valve the Classic 2 never had, and the classic 2 sounds a little cleaner than the original classic. Love the vocal chain series. Edit: This is not to say the K2 won't sound incredible, it will.

I rock with the Neuman tlm 103 , neve 1073 spx and warm audio WA2A . The tlm 013 is a bit harsh on my voice but do you think the kaotica eyeball is worth it ?

Archie my friend I have a question. I'm about to make a purchase of my first hardware gear. I'm on my 3rd choice but I'm sitting here ready to click purchase. I was gonna get a 1073 clone on the more affordable side . Oh shit I just realized this video has what I'm about to purchase. First my 2nd choice was a Focusrite ISA one with a WA 76. But I finally narrowed it down to The UA 6176. I'm gonna be using it with my Mojave Tube condensers and my SM7B. I do every style I'm asked to pretty much . I think to be a complete musician you have to dive in and get your feet wet in all styles Of music. In my case vocals. I guess I'll watch the video again . If it's good enough for Adele I'm thinking it's good enough for anyone. She has her pick of any gear she wants. I would buy with your affiliates but I need interest free payments and the place I'm buying it at has a promotion . If you buy a UA 6176 before OCT 31 you get a UAD DSP Accelerator FREEEEEEEEE! 1000$ value. That just bought the price tag down from 3000$ to 2000$. I'm getting it . I can always return it. I just didn't feel satisfied buying an 1176 clone . The reviews are all over the place. I'm going with a real one. OK I'm gonna watch. Thanks again for bringing this kinda resource of knowledge of mixing and pro audio. I'm sure you helped guide a lot of Peeps.

I haven't tested the Upton 251 as of yet but when I do I will post my thought immediately. On the hand, I own the Warm WA-251 and the Telefunken TF51 and posted videos of them. Dream-Vocal-Chain would be a Sony C800G, Neve 1073 and a Tube Tec CL 1B. At the moment, i only have the U87AI with the Neve 1073.

I am happy about my U87ai with 1073 and my next aim is definitaly the CL1b, as you also suggest. Btw, Avalon 737 is also great, but its more a taste, using 1073, which have such grip/dirty, what I like.

The SE RNT mic is on my list especially after listening to comparisons on Audio Test Kitchen. My vocal recording chain is GIK Acoustic Monster Bass Traps as portable recording booth (big difference compared to no treatment or Kaotica eyeball - will never use eyeball again because of too much coloration) > Townsend L22 (LD-12) mic > RND 5211 mic pre > Apollo X6 audio interface.
