The way I see it, it's not kids metal, it's authentic metal by kids.

They first performed this song in late 2010 at a Sakura Gakuin Festival (Red Brick Warehouse, Yokohama). It's their first song!

This was actually from before "Babymetal". It along with songs like IINE , Iijame Dame Zettai, headbanger, Uki Uki Midnight etc were originally on the Sakura Gakuin "year end project" albums . They actually first started playing this at Sakura Gakuin shows in like October of 2010. The song was recorded and video filmed by around Feb/March of 2011. Yui and Moa were 11 years old and Su 12 when they first began recording vocals. And had only turned 13 a month or two before the video was released and Yui and Moa were still 11 This live version is from March of this year, pretty much 13 years after the video was originally released. So yea , Su's voice really has matured from when she was 12 to 26. Lol.

In one interview Su-metal said that their early music was metal but geared towards girls their age. When the song initially debuted, Su was 12 with Moa and Yui at 11 years old. Overall the tone of their music has grown up as they did.

Thanks for a great time ! Su's version of 2024, in which she recaptures her teenage voice, is a real delight !

You are correct about Su's voice maturing, but she definitely dialed that maturity back to recapture the essence of the original in the live version.

Yeah she used her "baby" voice here. She uses it in a couple of the old songs now. I think when she was young she wanted to sound older and now she just has fun and rolls out the childish voice. I think she sings Gimme with a more childish voice now then she did in 2013.

Seriously, thanks for doing this. Contrasting both versions of this song, in particular, is something I didn't think I needed, but definitely was fun to watch.

Nice one! There is definitely a massive time difference, with the original's live debut in Nov 2010, MV in 2011, and the Legend MM live in Mar 2024. While Babymetal's studio production quality has improved over the years, nothing beats that live sound from the Kami Band (not on any studio recordings). As you read, this song is about a "heart thumping" morning, when the girls have to wake up to try to get to school on-time while being distracted by various things like make up, etc., and exciting happenings they are looking forward to 😆. I'll be honest, I usually hate super poppy stuff like this, but Babymetal some how makes it amazing, and I listen to this song all the time. I'm still in disbelief, haha 🤣. Also, here's a quick brief on the members and timeline: *2010:* Babymetal formation with Su, Moa, and Yui as the "Heavy Music Club" of the Idol group Sakura Gakuin. *2013:* Babymetal splits from Sakura Gakuin and becomes independent. *2017:* At year's end, Yui stops performing due to health. *2018:* In Yui's absence, Su & Moa joined by 2, then later 5 backup dancers. Yui officially resigns in Oct 2018. *2019:* Three backup dancers (The Avengers) were added to rotate into the 3rd spot vacated by Yui. One of them being Momoko (Riho and Kano are the other). *2020:* Momoko becomes the only Avenger remaining supporting Babymetal. *2023:* Momoko made official 3rd member in Apr, becoming Momometal. 🤘🦊

It sounds like a metal kids song because that's exactly what it is! Doki Doki Morning was their debut song, first performed at their debut appearance at Sakura Gakuin Festival 2010, and released as a single in 2011. It's a song about waking up late for school and hurrying to get ready and being excited to see what the day will bring. The time gap between the two performances is actually about 12 years. They don't play Doki Doki Morning live very often anymore, but every now and then they pull it out for a special occasion. The recent performance was at Legend MM in Yokohama on March 2nd & 3rd 2024. I was at this show and I can attest that Su was absolutely on fire, she sounded as good as I've ever heard her sound at a live show that I have been to. The production on the studio versions of the first two albums just isn't very good. It's one of the reasons that fans greatly prefer the live performances, because they seem to have better production and mixing than whatever happened with the early studio recordings. The production has really improved over the years, particularly on the live show recordings for the BluRay releases. The studio recording was done in 2010 with the original lineup of Su, Yui, and Moa. The live performance was in 2024, so the lineup was Su, Moa, and Momo. Yui stopped performing with Babymetal in October 2017, but didn't officially retire until October 2018. Kano was one of the "Avengers", who were the support dancers that filled in Yui's position in the dance formation between 2019-2023 when Momo officially joined (Momo was also an Avenger, along with Riho Sayashi). Kano is part of the J-pop group @onefive these days.

Great double reaction. @Ganimal83 has provided a nice breakdown on the BABYMETAL timeline, who was doing what when etc. 'Doki Doki Morning was their very first song - it was recorded in October 2010 (Su was 12, Yui and Moa were both 11) and the music video was filmed on a shoestring budget around August 2011. The girls were very pleased with themselves - they taught the choreo to the Babybones guys in their skeleton suits so they could dance along with them. Yui and Moa actually stood on rotating platforms for that part of the video and I think most of the video was filmed in a bedroom set - Yui and Moa said how they kept bumping into the big flower. The song itself is about a girl waking up late and rushing to get ready for an exciting day at school with her friends, but as you saw there is also that part about wanting to see the world and discover so much more, to find new dimensions and so on - that fits very well with the Sakura Gakuin ethos of trying to make all the girls super-ladies and to follow the inspiration of great female role models like Marie Curie, Coco Chanel and more. Of course the live mix was better - it always is with BABYMETAL since you will get Su-metal's natural vocals, not the over-processed and compressed studio mix - and live is the only way you get the Kami Band's instrumentals, they don't record the studio versions (and this song pre-dates the first appearance of the Kami Band by 2 years anyway)

Great double reaction and thanks for the shout-out. "Doki doki Morning" was their very first song, single, music video, first everything. It's so important that we are here talking about them because of it. And it needs a ton of context. They started as a sub-unit of a larger j-pop idol group formed by girls between 10 and 15yo called Sakura Gakuin. So, it had to be necessarily poppy since this is technically a SG song. But it's also crazy metal for that same context. The contrast between the poppy and the metal elements here was totally intended and the effect Koba (their producer and the person that came out with the whole concept) was looking for. The fact they still pay tribute to the song by playing it sometimes and releasing this recent live version to promote Legend-MM Blu-ray says a lot. The audio mix on the Blu-ray versions is just exquisite specially in recent productions. Another cause that makes a difference is the Kami Band playing only on the live versions. This is another of the main reasons why they always sound better live alongside Su-metal's live vocals. 🤘🦊

I think you interpreted the lyrics pretty well in a general sense - several songs on the first album are directly addressing the awareness of youth being transient and fleeting (Megitsune and Headbanger both talk about growing up and the knowledge that these teenage days will soon be gone, with a sense of loss even if they aren't melancholic songs). I think specifically because the song is about teenage girls rushing to get ready for school Su always sings it as that character, while other songs have changed more as her voice has changed and she is over a decade older than when she first sang them in the studio. I'm interested to see how that comes across with the other songs, although Doki Doki Morning is much older than them, it being the first song they recorded.

For YAVA!, I would suggest avoiding the official release as they cut the Kami band intro. YAVA! with Kami band intro: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5S-KjCFoS_E.html If you want to learn the history of BABYMETAL, I would suggest the recent guide that called 'The not so Extensive Guide to BABYMETAL' released back in April. Also, I would suggest Karate Live at Legend MM 2024, there's a music video for it as well. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-x1645-9Sz2w.html

Doki Doki Morning was recorded in late 2010. The video was shot in late 2011, which was 3 years before their first album was released in 2014. The video is 13 years old; why 11 years on YT? In 2010 Babymetal was a sub unit of the girl group Sakura Gakuin. In 2013 they broke off on their own as a separate band, and reloaded their videos on their new channel. Oh, and that's not the Kami band, that's Babybones. When Babymetal started, they had a low budget and could not afford a band, so they played in malls and food courts to backing tracks, and sometimes had guys dressed like skeletons pretending to play the instruments. When they were making enough money, they switched to the Kami band full time.

_Rin rin rin_ 🦊🤘⏰ Nice comparison. Btw there's no need to say the x when pronouncing BMC song title. The official MV (Edit Version) of DDM came out in 2011 so it's been 13 years ago, the studio version was recorded a year before (it's their very first song), In 2012 they upload the full MV version. Thanks for the shout-out and keep enjoying more BM songs.🦊🤘🔥

I think first of all, they were primary school students and junior high school students at that time. That’s why there are a lot of childish cartoon backgrounds in the MV. Secondly, most of their fans at that time were pop fans rather than metal fans. Because at that time they were still the subunit of SAKURA GAKUIN (a pop group). So we thought the song was too pop, but fans at the time thought it was heavy and metal. Thanks for your great reaction.

The version with Metalverse is also a great Video and to see them together for Karate in the shows that Momoko was made a full member was also a treat... Now if Kobametal would just release more from Metalverse I would get to see more 'Babymetal' like songs. I would love to see more guest appearances from Miko & Co. doing some of the older BM stuff with them.
