2:16 Him hitting those notes live always get me. Dokken will always have one of the greatest vocals of any metal band in history. That mix of rough and royalty. Unforgettable.
Also 2022!!! These guys were really "hot" back in 1987!!! ( I'm not talking just musical ability either)!!! Fun to watch a band with so much energy and enthusiasm!!! Like the nice guitars they had back then!!! And of course those leather pants!!! Can never get enough of those!!!🤘🤙👍
Saw Dokken in 2019 and well... the music still stands up, but not his voice. Oooof... doesn't help when he's in his 60's and power dragging on a cigarette before hitting the stage either!
I saw that tour as well, but Don had laryngitis and George’s amp blew in the middle of Mr. Scary. He was great, other than that. Aerosmith brought it that night, though, and I met a future girlfriend with whom I’m still friends with to this day at the show, so it was a great night!
I remember hearing this tune as their opener back in 1987 here in Fresno when they opened for Aerosmith. The sound that night was electric in the arena, especially on this song. George's guitar tone was Godly and they set up the sound so perfectly that night. There was a slight echo bouncing around the arena to go with that tone and my friend and I had our jaws dropped, maybe we were in the perfect spot to have that sound hit us so well but man all we could say was fuuuuuuuuck! I have never heard an electric guitar sound so great on one song like this one that night. It was totally an out of body experience. Swear to God it was just crazy. I"m 54 now and I will never ever forget that moment when they opened with this tune, Lynch was and always will be a Guitar God but credit to the roadies too, they just nailed the sound fucking perfectly.
I saw the same tour and thought the same thing. What an opener. And then Aerosmith opened with "Toys in the Attic" and I liked that guitar tone even better. Great show.
saw Dokken in 84 with Dio,86 with Judas Priest,88 with Aerosmith,88 with Van Halen,95 with Bon Jovi and 03 with Scorpions, never sen them headline, always opening for somebodyelse.the one tour I remember them headlining was in 99 when they had Reb Beach on guitar and was out of town for a week when it came through town
I've always heard about dokken. I knew about them just never got into they're music. First song i heard was "Alone Again". That song kicked ass, then i heard this song and it blew my mind. ROCK ON!!!!!!
I don’t think he’s under rated at all. He’s considered to be one of the greatest guitarists ever, and receives lots of praise and admiration from musicians and fans from all over the world. Everyone knows how great he is.
Opening for Aerosmith on their Permanent Vacation tour. Dokken supporting their Back for the attack album as well. Saw them at The Forum in Los Angeles in 1987.
There is an interview where Don says how much energy Jeff has. He said that he meditated and practiced a lot each day. Now for that substances you've mentioned... Hehehhehhe 😁 that just adds to it all I guess
great song.completely original metal sound with blistering guitar and vocals.....I first heard a cover of this song at DIrty nellies and was blown away. That got me hooked on Dokken for awhile...great music
I saw them and many of the great metal bands in the 80s. Dokken and Judas Priest where my favorites. Always gave an energetic, intense concert. Dokken was also one loudest bands I ever heard. I’d be very surprised if those guys still have fully functioning eardrums.
The music of this time is so great, we're not even paying attention to how bad the hair styles were. George Lynch has to be one of the 5 greatest of all time!!
I grew up in the 80s, but didn't come of age till the 90s. Couldn't have attended this concert in Philly but about 10 yrs, I went to the Electric Factory to see L.A. Guns, Warrant, Winger, Dokken et al, and it was a total blowout. Thought I'd never have another opportunity to ever see these guys, still reeling from seeing them all like together like that.
I went to the Dokken/George Lynch show here in Vegas last night. Don sounded NOTHING like he does in this performance. OMG. He couldn't buy a high note! He is 68 years old now, so it's not his fault. If not for the backing vocals from his bandmates, the songs woulda sounded unrecognizable. George played with Don's band for two songs. He stole the show, and was the star of the night!
Fucking awesome, I feel alive. George doesn't have bones not only in his pinky to play like that but also in his legs, look at his rock poses, Madonna's jealous. Jeff rocks. This song is my morning coffee.
Was at the Detroit show a few days later, and man, they were on fire. They showed Aerosmith how to put on a show and play. But, all that energy apprently came from the hatred that George and Don have for each other. I was glad to finally get to see them live, and at the top of their game. I've seen them since then, with George and Don tolerating each other onstage, but you can feel the tension. I've met George a few times at his solo shows and at a couple of guitar clinics, he is sucha humble and unassuming guy. He even let my play this guitar as we were sitting around after a clinic, and it plays like butter, so smooth. :-) As much as I loved Dokken back in this era, I enjoy Lynch Mob even more, when they have Oni Logan singing.
RIP Don Dokken's voice. The new guitarist is quite talented, but I got into the band because of George's style of playing. Its what attracted me. It seems hollow without him.
The band was really rollin here... And Don's voice was still great... This is them probably at the top of there game.... Great post.. ( would love to see this on DVD.. )
Are you kidding. The video gets 5 stars just for the shades and the great quitar playing. Better than the shameful shit thats released nowdays. So glad I'm old as shit and was able to enjoy that era as a teen. I want my MTV!!!
Yeah.. no problem. I been missing out for a long time. My favorite guitarist is Tom Morello, but this guy is totally inspiring and creative with his playing.
Well apparently the lead singer of slipknot, Corey Taylor blew out his left testicle recently trying to imitate vocals such as these LOL! (It’s on Twitter)
